On Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m., an individual now identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen form Texas, drove through a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 and injuring dozens.

The 2025 Sugar Bowl, originally set to be played on Wednesday night in New Orleans between Georgia and Notre Dame, brought many Athenians, University of Georgia athletes and others to New Orleans in light of the game. Sophomore UGA student Elle Eisele was critically injured during Wednesday morning's terrorist attack.

The Georgia Bulldogs couldn’t get out of their own way on Thursday, and Notre Dame was happy to make them pay.

Georgia fell 23-10 to the Fighting Irish on Thursday in the Sugar Bowl, which served as a College Football Playoff quarterfinal game, and has a lot of self-inflicted wounds to blame for the way things turned out. The Bulldogs turned it over twice, with the first being a red zone fumble from Trevor Etienne that cost Georgia points and was his first ever lost fumble in college.

The Georgia Bulldogs couldn’t get out of their own way on Thursday, and Notre Dame was happy to make them pay.

For many, the storyline of this matchup was redshirt-sophomore quarterback Gunner Stockton making his first career start in the CFP playoffs — something no quarterback in the history of college football has done. Stockton was dubbed as the “deciding factor” against Notre Dame with analysts and fans alike feeling as though he would be a cause for Georgia going home and not a reason they could win.

The Red & Black has confirmed that the University of Georgia student critically injured during Wednesday morning's terrorist attack in New Orleans is sophomore Elle Eisele.

Eisele is a Fort Myers, Florida native and a member of UGA’s Phi Mu chapter. According to UGA Community Cares, Eisele’s family said she was “stable and communicating” as of Thursday morning.
