Even if it is just a blended parallel way down in the mix, playing with pedals and modulating them by hand thru a bounce feels more in tune with the music. You have to pay attention deeper to the crest of the mix and ride its wave. You need to know where the tension is and how it resolves...and maybe even disrupt that balance a bit. This pulp n peel just happens to be the thing sometimes. I like it on a bass DI, snare drums to do the shure Level Loc thing, or even a vocal. Maybe it is right in front of a reverb on a return. Just experiment and have fun.
