What a great way to donate prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and formal wear you hardly touch. Prom is an important time for teens and below has a list of items in need. Athens-Clarke County Library

In years past, we have helped over 150 teens take home a FREE complete prom ensemble! But we need YOUR help to do it again this year!

If you have formal wear that you're no longer using, we would love to repurpose it to make dreams come true this prom season. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please send us a message!

Athens! We are short of making sure each of the 67 children we are currently sheltering or housing has a magical holiday season! Please help if you can with $25 gift cards to Walmart or Target. This allows our families to shop for their children for the holidays! Gift cards can be dropped at 620 Barber St between 9am and 4pm, M-F, preferably by December 18th, to allow time for distribution and shopping. Please help us give our kiddos a magical holiday season!

UPDATE 12/23: New cold weather shelter added at Lay Park. Please see latest post for details! Volunteers are needed!
❄️❄️
UPDATE 12/22: Another cold weather option has been added. Thank you to the Homeless Day Service Center for help getting the word out! Twin Angels will be providing emergency shelter assistance for those in need in addition to shelters expanding capacity (see below). Those in need will call Sharon at 706-255-1296 to coordinate.
❄️❄️
We’ve gotten a lot of calls asking how folks can help during the extreme cold weather coming up. Our shelter partners (specifically , Salvation Army of Athens, and First Steps who provide individual adult shelter/support for those 18 and up) are working to make sure spaces are filled and expanding capacity to meet the increased need for overnight space. These organizations are need of warming items to help support this community. 🚨Please drop off warming and emergency blankets, hot hands, hats/gloves/mittens, warm socks, and other cold weather items at 95 North Avenue between 8am-4pm. Anything you’re able to do is helpful! 🚨Our family shelter and our other family shelter partners like are full but we are all working to direct supply donations where it’s needed. Thank you all for your support as we care for our community together! *we will update if any other warming centers or community response comes available. If you aware of these options, please send us a dm or comment below*

Please consider signing up to serve Dinner in December ❤️

We have a very full house on Barber street and it’s a bittersweet reality. While we are pained that families are dealing with housing insecurity (especially during the holidays) we are also grateful for the warmth and support you all surround them with at the shelter. We work hard to make the space inviting and peaceful and you’re a big part of that! With so many folks under our roof, we need your help! We still have several open dinner volunteer slots that we’d love for you to join us at! Visit https://m.signupgenius.com/ #!/showSignUp/70a0849abae2aa31-dinner to sign up today and give back during this holiday season!

GOV. KEMP DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY AHEAD OF FREEZING WEATHER ❄️ - BRING YOUR PETS INSIDE! 🐾

All dogs - regardless of breed – can suffer from hypothermia if a combination of factors is present. Consensus among veterinarians is that certain dogs (e.g., age, size, breed, medical condition, nutritional status) can be compromised below 32°F, especially if the fur is wet. All healthy dogs can potentially develop frostbite or hypothermia, even double-coated dogs, if exposed to subfreezing temperatures for a lengthy period of time. The ears and feet are especially susceptible to frostbite. Responsible dog ownership includes monitoring a dog during weather extremes and providing adequate shelter. 🐶

This chart shows the effects of body size and other factors on a dog’s ability to withstand cold.

This lifesaving information and chart brought to you by our friends at the Georgia Pet Coalition, Inc.

Looking for a pal for the holidays? Consider bringing home a foster pup!

Fosters are integral to saving lives--they free space at the shelter, allow the shelter dogs to destress, and provide us with invaluable information about the sort of home in which the pup will succeed. Even a weekend away from the shelter can help get a pup adopted!

And, who knows--maybe you'll decide that your new friend is perfect for your home ❤️

✅ Already an ACCAS foster? Just drop by 1-5 today or tomorrow to pick your holiday pal.

✅ Not yet an ACCAS foster? Complete this form https://www.accgov.com/FormCenter/Animal-Services-54/Animal-Services-Foster-Application-Form-637 so staff has the info they need to match you with an appropriate pet and either email a video of a tour of the inside of your home to [email protected] or bring it with you when you come by the shelter, 1-5 today or tomorrow.

All needed supplies provided. All dogs that are not currently on stray hold are available to be couch crashers.
