Another Big Moose when hiking around of the trails at Turnbull NWR near Cheney Wa. Taken 1-3-26
Shiras Moose are the smallest North American subspecies, are found in Washington, primarily in the Northeast corner (Selkirk Mountains) but also in the North Cascades, Okanogan, and Blue Mountains, with populations growing from Eastern Canada, providing unique hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities in areas like Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. These dark, large-shouldered animals with distinct throat "bells" thrive in riparian zones, eating willows and aquatic plants, and are managed through limited draw hunts, with recent record-setting bulls harvested in Ferry County
