Of the 88 positions proposed for elimination (or 37 percent of the 237 total positions in spring 2022), 21 are currently unfilled positions. Of the remaining 67 positions being cut, 44 are tenured faculty members. 23 professors are without tenure. [...]

Some students are planning a protest Wednesday afternoon where they will march from the quad to the Chancellor’s house. [...]

“We didn’t really have many options,” explained Chancellor Chuck Ambrose. He said in order for University to survive he had to look at primarily three things: which programs cost the most, have the lowest graduation rates, and are in demand for today’s workforce."

2022 has been a great year so far for Reddie Baseball. The team started the season on a school record of a fourteen game winning streak before they would drop their first game of the season. After a big series win over Arkansas Tech, the Reddies are in a position to possibly possess the two seed in the upcoming GAC Tournament in two weeks at Hot Springs. To top it off, Head Coach Cody Hooten won his 300th consecutive game as head coach of the Reddies. It should also be noted that Hooten is currently the winningest head coach in Reddie Baseball history.

It is not often a school gets to witness two of their teams be successful at the same time. It’s also uncommon to see either team ranked inside the top seven as one of the best teams in the state. Ouachita is witnessing both the baseball and softball teams play at a high level. Scorebook Live (SBLive Arkansas) is taking notice as well. This sports media company is the only outlet in the state of Arkansas that creates a ranking system for baseball and softball. It is also a well credited outlet that has received good attention throughout this past basketball season. At the beginning of the season, the Warriors were actually in the preseason Top Seven softball rankings. Since then, they have managed to hold a spot inside those rankings for the last two months without sliding out.

Under Jones’ leadership, Henderson’s board was deeply divided. Arnold and a fellow trustee, Brown Hardman, often split with the other trustees, who tended to side with Jones.
“Glen Jones should never have been hired,” Arnold said. “He just didn’t have the qualifications at the time to be a college president.” The board tended to “rubber-stamp” Jones’ decisions, Arnold said. [...]
Listopad, the journalism faculty member, said he feels the board of trustees didn’t do its duty and failed to get to the truth of what was happening.
“Everybody knows and accepts that the causes of all of our problems [date to] the previous administration, Jones and Powell,” Listopad said. “They hid the school’s finances” from the public, he said.
The governor said trustees have a difficult job overseeing “such large and complex organizations,” and he declined to criticize Henderson’s former board.

Arkadelphia and Bismarck both came into last week unranked. At the start of this week, that completely changed.
After their wins, both teams are now in the top ten or just outside. The Badgers sit at number six in Class 4A, while the Lions are likely one more big win away from jumping into the rankings.

“It throws a lot of people off that I have long hair and tattoos and I’m a dentist and that I’m the mayor,” Byrd said. “And they’re like ‘you don’t look like any of that.’ So I usually thank them for telling me.”
Though Byrd has made quite the name for himself here in Arkadelphia, his current life is not what he had originally planned for it to be. Before dentistry, he had considered going to medical school. According to him, he had even swore he would never become a dentist. However, after being convinced to shadow, his viewpoint on the profession had completely changed.

Some know him as their dentist, others as the mayor of Arkadelphia. No matter your connection with Scott Byrd, it is clear that he is not the average man. While this combination of professions may be unexpected, he claims that many are thrown off simply by his appearance. “It throws a lot of peopl...

In the top of the seventh inning, Haskell increased their lead, bringing in two more runs making it 5-0. The Lions tried to make a comeback, getting one run for a score of 5-1. That was all they could muster, though, as a groundout would end the ball game.

The Badgers also moved on and secured a spot in the state tournament. In round two, Arkadelphia was matched up against its toughest opponent of the season, taking on the Magnolia Panthers, who are the number one team in Class 4A.
The Badgers were down one after the first quarter and went into halftime down 32-26. Magnolia, though, exploded in the second half and defeated Arkadelphia 67-32.

EDIT: On the second day appearing on the hit TV show, “Family Feud,” the Simpson family won the $20 thousand prize with a final score of 266. Their first day on the show, they fell just short of the prize money, earning only $745. Arkadelphia native Vernon Davis and his family, playing under the Simpsons name, will appear again tomorrow night. Davis’s wife Daphne and son Sage answered the questions in the Fast Money segment of the game show on both episodes.

“My wife, she’s amazing, and she knew I always wanted to meet Steve Harvey,” said Davis. “And we watch “Family Feud” everyday at my house anyways. So, she submitted our family for an audition.”
Vernon Davis, from Arkadelphia, will appear on the hit TV show "Family Feud" (Familyfeud) with his wife and family on Feb. 28. They will be competing under the last name Simpson in honor of his wife’s late father. To find out if Davis and the Simpson family won the prize money, tune in on Feb. 28.

There will be some familiar faces on “Family Feud” in just a few weeks as an Arkadelphia native’s family takes on another family on the popular game show in an upcoming episode. The episode is set to air Feb. 28. Vernon Davis, who will be representing the Simpson family in honor of his late wi...
