Coming home after the Forest Show …

I was offered a can of Taco Truck Lager while waiting for my chicken burrito at Los Giles Taqueria, my favorite taco truck by a mile, which was parked in front of the Zoo for the Forest Moon Festival at Sequoia Park.
The taco truck was full of guys partying and talking in Spanish who were about to have shots of tequila served in little plastic cups that reminded me of the ones they used for dispensing my mom’s drugs at the old folks home.
There was a toast in Spanish that I didn’t understand and everyone downed shots together. The beer was offered to me by the same guy who handed me the shot (who I did not know) but I figured I didn’t really need a beer chaser, since I was actually on my way to my vehicle, and didn’t actually need that shot either. But hey, when you’re at a taco truck party, you don’t turn down a shot of tequila. Right?

The People’s Record Store’s Grand Opening for their new location just happened to also be Record Store Day.
Steve likes the new digs where vinyl filled downstairs, with more upstairs, along with a nice CD section, and posters, tee shirts and more.
It was good seeing it fairly full of shoppers. I waited until the first rush ended to avoid the crush, but a steady stream of people kept coming.

About the album:
If Surround can be listened to as music that’s as close to air itself, allowing us to enter each listener’s sound scenery, or as something that exists within a new perspective, expanding the middle ground between sound and music, and transforming it into a comfortable space, it would be much appreciated.

Originally released as an album in January 1986, Surround was recorded by Yoshimura as a commission from home builder Misawa Homes, intended to function as an “amenity” designed to enhance the company’s newly built living spaces.

In his original notes for the album, Yoshimura recommends that Surround be placed in the same family of sounds “as the vibration of footsteps, the hum of an air conditioner, or the clanging of a spoon inside a coffee cup.” And, as he suggests, “with the addition of city noise from outside the window,” you may hear Surround in a completely new way.

A pioneer in the field of environmental music, Yoshimura’s previous works included Music For Nine Post Cards (1982), originally produced to be played back inside a museum space, and designing sound environments for public spaces and subway systems. Surround was recorded almost concurrently with the acclaimed and popular GREEN (1986); the two albums are described by Hiroyoshi Shiokawa in his liner notes as being Yoshimura’s yin and yang.

It was an odd rude awakening in our household. My MyShake alarm woke both of us instantly awake, although we didn’t feel anything at all. The earthquake may have happened before the alarm went off.
Amy got up instantly and I tried going back to sleep, but then a second quake followed, one that was much closer to us. We felt that as a slow roll, over quickly.
And I was again wide awake, although my night time meds include a sleeping pill of sorts. My doc told me hydroxyzine can give me strange often intense dreams. Usually I don’t mind that. I enjoy most strange dreams.
When I returned to sleepytime it was just as he said. But I did not feel properly rested this morning and I’ve been feeling weird all day. Everything seems unstable and out of balance. Of course what’s happening in the rest of the world has me unsettled.
And yes, it brought Koyaanisqatsi to mind, again…
