Eli got it done in Kansas! LOTS of hard work, blood, sweat and tears came together with a 215 yard shot this morning. What made it even more special was that it was one of the first big bucks we saw when we were scouting with Jilly and Jax, and they knew which buck we were talking about when we shared the news. This was a true DIY hunt on public land. Countless hours, miles, driving, walking, crawling and wading in the creeks and rivers. I can't say enough about the resilience of a 9 year old with a passion for the outdoors. By day 5, Sahara Ellison and I were exhausted, and so was he, but he never once even thought about giving up. I even tested his will a few times and asked him if he just wanted to go home. You can guess his answer. I could go on and on about how a 9 year old took a big step to becoming a man, not because of the deer he killed, but because of the obstacles he overcame. He's my hero. I wish I was like him when I was 9. He's a special kid and I'm proud of him, more than he will ever know, and it goes with and without saying. My beautiful bride-to-be, was right there the whole time. She played the "normal" role of snacks and laundry. But she did so much more. It's crazy how someone who has only hunted for a few years has such advanced insight. She was the heartbeat of this hunt. I can't forget Dayton and Kyle for their help with the gun, Daytons help with strategies for Kansas and Dustin Patterson and Katie Whisman for their hospitality. I have numerous friendships that have started with my love for hunting and theirs is another one. Dustin offered his home for us to stay in, despite not knowing us, other than through the hunting community. Dustin and Katie are truly genuine people and I am truly proud to now call them our friends. Last but not least, thanks for all the calls and messages checking in to see how Eli’s hunt was going. We appreciate everyone who supported us!
