Congressman Brecheen Issues Statement Following Supreme Court Presidential Immunity Ruling

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Josh Brecheen issued the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled in Trump v. United States that former presidents have “absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority” and “at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts.”

“This Supreme Court ruling is a big win for America and our Constitution and a loss for the Biden Administration and its attempt to undermine our institutions and politically harass its chief political opponent, President Trump. I hope this ruling sends a message to far-left prosecutors like Jack Smith to end the relentless lawfare and witch hunt against President Trump,” said Congressman Josh Brecheen.

BECOMING “ONE” WITH THE SEC

They say every journey begins with a first step. Today, July 1, 2024, the University of Oklahoma officially strides into our much-anticipated SEC future. It’s been nearly three years since we, alongside the University of Texas, announced our eventual move from the Big 12 to the SEC, and time has flown since then. As we embark on what will be countless new experiences and traditions, today seemed ideal for me to start another new custom of connecting with Sooner Nation. I’m hoping this newsletter will give me a chance to share with you what’s on our horizon, what’s on my mind, and what’s going on behind the scenes with our teams, student-athletes, and coaches.

You – our supporters and fans – are central to the Sooners’ story. You’re on our team: with us when we win and when we lose, and you’re committed to doing what you can to buoy us when we need it most. We’re endlessly thankful for that. So, it’s my hope this platform pulls back the curtain so you can see where your support meets our efforts to create a championship culture.

If you’re paying attention to college athletics, you may be wondering what’s it like to be an athletics director in 2024. Let me first say, I’m really proud to be a part of the evolution that’s happening across collegiate sports. To be certain, there’s a more than a fair bit of uncertainty right now, but the changes over the past few months and years have provided our student-athletes with transformative opportunities and brought greater self-determination to our programs. All this while keeping us in a position to hold true to our North Star: Ensuring our student-athletes receive a world-class education and preparation for a lifetime of success after college.

We’ve been extremely fortunate to have had so many talented players go on to compete professionally, but we all know they represent just a tiny percentage of the student-athletes who come through our programs.

For most everyone else, success is tightly tethered to the education they receive in our classrooms from our gifted and caring faculty. And boy, do they earn it. Just this past spring, they posted a record-shattering 3.27 cumulative GPA, marking the 25th consecutive semester for our student-athletes to collectively earn a 3.0 or higher figure. We celebrate those academic achievements with as much fervor as we do any draft pick.

As we’ve worked through our transition these past few years, SEC Commissioner Sankey and our new conference colleagues have shown us great kindness. Together, we’ve spent hours considering our goals for OU, the new opportunities for college athletics and our student-athletes, and the tradition of excellence to which OU will contribute as a member of the SEC. It’s in our DNA to compete and win, and I know we all can’t wait to watch the Sooners do just that at the highest level in all of college sports.

I’m confident our unique history, fired-up fans, and Sooner Magic moments will make the SEC even more electric. Across the spectrum of our sports, I expect we’ll see tough rivals and championship-caliber competition just about all year long, plus the coast-to-coast audiences the Sooners deserve.

Oklahoma’s 2024 action kicks off on August 15 with our soccer team on the road taking on North Texas, before the volleyball team opens its season versus TCU on August 30 in Lincoln, Nebraska. August 30 will also showcase the Palace on the Prairie for the 100th year in OU’s first-ever “Friday Night Lights” football game as the Sooners host the Temple Owls.
Inaugural SEC play will begin with our soccer team at home against Mississippi State on September 19.

Then football takes on its first in-conference SEC opponent on September 21 with an eagerly anticipated game against Tennessee, and volleyball starts conference action September 26 at home vs. Florida. More SEC football excitement will continue throughout the season at home versus South Carolina and Alabama, and on the road against Auburn, Ole Miss, Missouri, and LSU.

Also, for the first time, this year will turn a new audience’s attention to the Red River Rivalry. There’s just nothing else like it in sports. The 120th contest between our two programs returning to its traditional kickoff at 2:30 pm Central (at least for this year) will see 200,000 people descend on the Texas State Fairgrounds, with more than 90,000 fiery fans watching from inside the Cotton Bowl to see who will bring home the Golden Hat. The fans, the energy on the field, the stories, the personalities – I think the SEC is going to love it. Not to mention the State Fair’s smorgasbord of deep-fried options.

So, as we march into our future, I know we’ll all remember every special moment of this year of firsts. It promises to be an exciting and historic era for OU Athletics and I look forward to sharing it with all of you. Get ready for some more magic.

Boomer!

Walters Decries Ruling Denying Oklahomans’ Religious Liberty Oklahoma Parents Want Freedom and Choice

Oklahoma City, Okla – State Superintendent Ryan Walters has released the following statement responding to the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s ruling in the St. Isidore Virtual Charter School case.

“It’s my firm belief that once again, the Oklahoma Supreme Court got it wrong. The words ‘separation of church and state’ do not appear in our Constitution, and it is outrageous that the Oklahoma Supreme Court misunderstood key cases involving the First Amendment and sanctioned discrimination against Christians based solely on their faith. Oklahomans have demanded school choice not religious targeting.

I agree with the dissent because nothing about the State of Oklahoma contracting for educational services for students in the form of a charter school violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, and the enrollment demand at St. Isidore proves that Oklahoma parents want more choices for their kids’ educations – not fewer.

This ruling cannot and must not stand. There will be additional legal action in support of those parents and the millions of Oklahomans who believe deeply in religious liberty, and I will never stop fighting for Oklahomans’ constitutional, God-given right to express their religious belief.”

State Superintendent Ryan Walters has issued the following statement responding to the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s today’s ruling on school libraries:

“Although we are disappointed the Court issued this decision, it was made on very narrow grounds. The Court did not sign on to any of the claims made by the districts that would have affected the State Board of Education’s broad authority over school districts or the Governor's ability to approve our administrative rules.

My message to Oklahoma parents is clear: we will get p**n out of schools. We will not allow a woke mob to dictate what our kids are exposed to. The legislature must act and reign out of control access to p**nography in schools that our kids are exposed to.

Ambiguity and indecision are never acceptable. I will be exploring all available tools to act.”

Walters Announces Teacher Bonus Program
Builds off Most Successful Teacher Recruitment Effort in State History

Oklahoma City, Okla – Building off the most successful teacher recruitment effort in state history, State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced a new teacher bonus program today to recruit math and science teachers to Oklahoma’s rural public school districts.

“I am thrilled to continue bringing in highly qualified teachers to Oklahoma classrooms,” said Walters. “Oklahoma is a great place to live and work, and we are making it easier than ever for teachers to come to our great state and have an enormous impact on our young people. We recruited more than 500 teachers to Oklahoma classrooms last school year and this program builds on that innovative model.”

Teachers who did not teach in an Oklahoma public school during the 2023-2024 school year are eligible. Signing bonuses between $15,000 and $25,000 are available:
In-state certified secondary math or science teachers - $15,000
Out-of-state certified secondary math or science teachers - $25,000

Eligible teachers must meet these criteria:
Holds an alternative or standard certification in secondary math or secondary science
Hired to teach during the 2024-2025 school year with a rural Oklahoma Public School

Lead or get out of the way
by Rep. Justin Humphrey

It is with careful consideration and contemplation that I construct my thoughts over recent political events.

American Patriot Thomas Paine said, “Tyranny, like Hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.” It is time United States citizens, and my fellow Oklahomans grasp that our federal and state governments are being dominated by evil, and they have brought hell upon us.

Alexander Hamilton said, “History will teach us that the former has been found a much more certain road to the introduction of despotism than the latter, and that those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people commencing demagogues and ending tyrants.”

Another way I've heard the end of this quote is: "by dispersing flattery, commencing to rabble rousing and ending as tyrants."

Sounds familiar? I feel America has ignored and tolerated the government theft of our liberties. America has become entranced or spellbound by the media. We no longer possess the fundamentals to discern, appreciate or comprehend truth, nor can many identify an obvious blatant lie.

The media has tried to paint Donald Trump as a dictator and a tyrant who is trying to destroy our republic. The word tyranny means “absolute rule unrestrained by law or constitution.” It is inarguable that Hillary Clinton committed numerous crimes, such as illegally obtained information vital to national security, released our nation’s top secrets on her private server, unquestionably destroyed evidence which had been subpoenaed, obtained assistance from the White House to spy on a presidential opponent, continued to spy on a sitting president, and paid and orchestrated a fake dossier on then President Trump. Despite all these crimes, President Trump did not use his power or position to force criminal charges, but instead he restrained himself and allowed the government to merely fine Clinton. President Trump’s conduct is completely opposite of a tyrant.

Democrats paid millions to conduct an illegitimate investigation and then made two disgraceful and counterfeit attempts to impeach President Trump. Let’s not forget, Democrats encouraged violence with the burning of cities, massive disruption in nominating a Supreme Court justice, and did not recognize Donald Trump as president by repeatedly calling him illegitimate and shouting, "Impeach 45." Yet, President Donald Trump never sought to use his power to prosecute those who acted in such hostile and criminal ways against him.

However, the current presidential administration has conspired with district attorneys to have Donald Trump and Trump supporters arrested for raising legitimate unmistakable issues of campaign fraud. President Trump is accused of mishandling documents, his house was raided, and he was charged with taking classified documents. Biden had classified documents in multiple unsecured places. Yet his houses were never raided, and charges were declined. Trump is accused of provoking a riot over calling out obvious election theft. The current administration has thrown out the rule of law and illegally disregarded due process for Trump supporters. The Biden Administration has weaponized the legal system charging President Trump with approximately 91 crimes. Biden has violated the rule of law and molested the Constitution. Remember the definition of tyranny, “absolute rule unrestrained by law or constitution.” Tyranny tries to censor free speech (government control of Facebook, Twitter), conceal records (Hunter’s laptop), restrict rights (ATF raids, FBI raids on families) and destroy society morality (transgenders at the Capitol). Biden has taken America backwards to 1776 and a tyrannical government. Biden seems hell-bent on destroying our nation. Wake up Oklahoma! The time has come to stop the tyranny of federal and state governments. Tyranny like Hell is not easily conquered, but I once heard that the fastest way out of Hell is straight through.

Along these same lines, I have asked our Oklahoma attorney general to prosecute ATF Agents for raiding the home of Russell Fincher, an Oklahoma citizen, and illegally seizing his weapons. Oklahoma should not recognize the illegal and pathetic charge of the federal government against Fincher for his alleged selling of ammo to a felon. The governor and other leaders should allow Fincher to continue his employment as an Oklahoma teacher. Oklahoma leaders should send a clear message that Oklahoma will no longer allow the abuse of our Constitution or tolerate the degradation of our justice system.

It’s time for our leaders to draft a document declaring Oklahoma will no longer accept the unlawful and dishonest rulings of partisan, phony, counterfeit courts and call out the Biden Administration for their illegal behavior and acts of treason. The governor, Senate and House should prepare such a document, and every willing elected official should sign. Oklahoma should ask other states to join in having their state leaders prepare a similar document. It is time for leadership to lead or get out of our way.

Service Oklahoma Reminds Boat Owners of July 1 Registration Renewals and Carbon Monoxide Warning Decals

OKLAHOMA CITY – Service Oklahoma is reminding boat owners across the State that boat registrations and renewals must be completed by July 1st.

Additionally, all motorized boats that renew their registration will receive a carbon monoxide poisoning warning decal to be displayed on the boat along with an informational pamphlet. In accordance with OK HB2010 (2023) also know as “Andy's Law,” boat owners will receive a carbon monoxide poisoning warning decal on their first renewal after Nov. 1, 2023.

Andy’s Law, OK HB2010 (2023):
House Rep. Dean Davis in District 98 and Sen. Chuck Hall of District 20 co-authored OK HB2010 to warn against the dangers of open-air carbon monoxide poisoning. The bill was passed by the House and Senate, then signed into law by Governor Kevin Stitt with the effective date of Nov. 1, 2023. July 1st is the annual boat registration renewal deadline, making this the first time since the bill went into effect for many motorized water vessels to display the carbon monoxide poisoning warning decal in plain view.

All boats with motors, motorized vessels and outboard motors with an excess of 10 horsepower require title and registration. Oklahomans have the choice of registering their boat for one-year or three-years at a time.

Service Oklahoma is committed to ensuring seamless operations and facilitating compliance for all motorized watercraft owners in the Sooner State and has made it easy to register a boat and receive the carbon monoxide poisoning warning decal.

Boat owners can register and renew their boats at their local licensed operator location or have the option of renewing online at service.ok.gov. For any online boat registration renewals, a carbon monoxide poison warning decal will be sent in the mail. To find the nearest licensed operator, visit service.ok.gov/locations, and for more information about boat registrations visit service.ok.gov/boats.
