Had a fun few hours playing tunes for Highline College’s Student Employee of the Year celebration today. Went well! Congratulations to all the students who were nominated and won!
I'll be DJing today for the Highline College Student Employee of the Year celebration! Going to be a bit different from my usual sets, with a lot more modern pop mixed in, but it should be fun helping to celebrate the students here.
I've never really found a good, succinct way to describe my DJ style. While I like a blend of lots of different genres, I naturally gravitate towards a mix of 80's new wave, 90s-current darkwave (in the goth/industrial family, leaning towards artists like VNV Nation, Covenant, etc. rather than the harsher/screamier industrial stuff), synthwave, dance/electronica/house, whatever pop ('80s-current) catches my ear, novelty/parody dance tracks, and mashups.
I'm now pretty sure that my style is best described as "dorkwave". ;)
(The only downside being that nobody would know what that meant, and I'd have to explain it all, so it doesn't really save any time or make things any clearer.)
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Multiverse of Music at Norwescon 45 this weekend! I had a great time playing music and watching everyone having fun out on the dance floor. Fingers crossed, we'll see if I get to come back next year!

Another session of practicing with my mobile setup. Mostly pop/new wave, some electronica, started with the '80s and moved into the '90s. The usual random selections.

From last week: Just a short 30-minute practice set as I get used to using a mobile (laptop-based) setup instead of my home (iMac-based) setup, and to incorporating Beatsource as a track source instead of solely relying on my own library.
