Thankful for the time we spent together.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Scott Brodt, an esteemed architect and former Vice President at MCG Explore Design. Scott was a dear colleague with a special spark, known for his kindness, technical expertise, and thoughtful design approach. His contributions were cherished by everyone fortunate enough to work with him.

Scott's career was marked by significant achievements, including his instrumental role in building relationships with the University of Alaska and expanding our presence in the military market. Among his many accomplishments, Scott's masterpiece, according to colleague Michael Carlson, is the iconic Whale Building at UAA, inspired by the majestic form of a whale surfacing in Cook Inlet.

Beyond his professional dedication, Scott enjoyed the outdoors and found joy in golfing and skiing. His warm presence and dedication to his craft will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Such an unreal build! Congrats to Nvision Architecture

Our Joann A. Alexie Memorial K-12 School replacement won the 2023 AIA Alaska Design Award! Blending modern architecture with traditional Yup’ik structural forms, the design reflects the Atmautluak environment and the Yup’ik culture of the people it serves. A few star features include:

➡ Raised elevation similar to Yup’ik caches
➡ Main entrance reminiscent of a Yup’ik sod house facade
➡ Kuskokwim River system mapped into flooring
➡ Student-inspired traditional mask art celebrated across the gymnasium exterior

Thank you to Lower Kuskokwim School District, UIC Construction, Enterprise Engineering, Inc., Schneider Structural Engineers, RSA Engineering, Inc., Atlas Technical Consultants, GV Jones & Associates, Corvus Design, Northern Geotechnical Engineering, Inc. We had the wonderful pleasure of sitting down with him in his home and interviewing him about his amazing life. From escaping Germany following WWII as a child. To becoming a culinary in his teen years. Traveling to Alaska. Starting Alaska Sausage & Seafood and creating generations of Alaskans through family and friends. We have had the pleasure of both personally and professionally being a part of this family and they are salt of the earth people. We all remember as Alaskans hearing his voice on the radio so frequently. Meant so much to us all.. “Just tell them Herb sent you” will remain in our memories for the rest of our lives.

(Evo)lution :the gradual development of something, especially from a simple to a more complex form. The word evolution seems to bring everything full circle. Coming to Hybrid at 19 years old with a background in photography I knew very little about video production and editing. I had to learn the ropes and figure out what worked. Similarly, when I got my car at a young age with no mechanical background, I had to teach myself and rely on help from others around me. Day to day, progress seemed minimal, but over nine years with Hybrid, both my car and I have seen many evolutions. I've always prided myself on learning quickly and adapting, traits that have been crucial to me in both my career and my automotive endeavors. Persistence, perseverance, and progression have been key to each evolution. As a 16 year old I had a vision to build up and modify this car I knew nothing about but I wanted it to be me. Comparably, with video and production I would gather inspiration and want to create & express myself while figuring it out along the way. The journey with my car and my career at Hybrid has been about constant learning and adaptation, leading me to where I am today.

I started taking pictures to compensate for my lackluster memory, ensuring I would have something tangible to look back on later. I became the ‘photographer friend’ that would take photos at social gatherings and camping trips. My first photography position was with TSS Photography which was crucial in honing my muscle memory and technical knowledge, I later freelanced during college to supplement my income. Transitioning into video production 7 years ago I found my primary avenue for creative expression. While I appreciate the creative freedom moving images offer, I still enjoy breaking out the old 6D, Polaroid, and film cameras whenever I get the chance. - Sam Rice | @sammarice

Have you ever wondered what is MCG's secret sauce? Well after popular demand they have decided to bottle it and have everyone in the office give it a taste. Every aspect of this project was so much fun. Starting at The Dirty Apron dialing in the flavor, then once they got it bottled and labeled we we're able to get our hands on it for a product shoot in the warehouse. Once the product shoot was done, it was time for the whole office to give it a taste. Head over to MCG's page to watch the full video!
