2024 Pacific Star International Piano Competition Winners 📣

Following the successful establishment of the PSIPC Pacific Star International Piano Competition in 2022 and 2023, the 2024 edition has seen a remarkable response. Nearly 600 professional and amateur pianists from over 40 countries and regions submitted their applications, reflecting the growing prestige of this event.

These distinguished individuals will serve as both academic advisors and judges, ensuring the highest standards of excellence.

After concluding both days 12-hour adjudication session, there are many messages I haven't had a chance to respond to individually. I'd like to take this opportunity to share my thoughts on today's experience and summarize some insights from this year's competition.

First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude for colleges support of the Pacific Stars Competition. This is our third year, and although we did our best to prepare, there were indeed some shortcomings in terms of the venue, aesthetics, and the condition of some pianos in the preliminary rounds. For these issues, the organizing committee sincerely apologizes and hopes for your understanding. I particularly empathize with those participants who couldn't perform at their best due to the state of the pianos and thus didn't make it to the finals. As a former piano student, I understand the unique nature of the piano and how its condition can affect performance. Unlike a violin, we often cannot carry our instrument with us, and encountering an unsatisfactory piano can indeed impact one's performance.

Despite these challenges, the performances in today's finals were truly impressive. Not a single participant let the long waiting times affect their performance. Some even waited for an hour and a half to two hours and still managed to flawlessly play Liszt's Feux Follets. Such professionalism and resilience are commendable, and even I might find it difficult to match. Ultimately, piano competitions are about skill, and today's performances undoubtedly demonstrated this.

As the Artistic Director, my role in the competition is limited. Most of the work is carried out by the organizing committee and many wonderful volunteers. My primary responsibility is to ensure the professionalism and fairness of the competition. During today's finals, I observed the entire event and took notes but did not participate in any discussions regarding the results. All the winners are truly deserving, and those who did not win should not feel that they are any less talented. Judges' preferences and tastes do play a role in scoring, and selecting only five winners from 60 finalists in Group A was an extremely difficult task. So please do not be discouraged.

Finally, I hope everyone can learn from the outstanding performances of other participants. This competition attracted participants from all over the United States and even internationally, such as competitors from San Francisco, Arizona, New York, and Mongolia's Naranbat Anar in Category B. This diversity has greatly enriched the competition.

Once again, thank you all for your support and participation. Your hard work and dedication have made this competition truly spectacular. Well done!
