I found this kid tied up with a bag next to him that had all his little things. My heart broke to see that lost look of confusion, sadness and shock in his eyes, much like a child or elderly person would be to find themselves suddenly homeless, friendless and family less.
I didn't stop to think if I had the space, or the money to take care for him. All I knew I couldn't just leave him there, so I just took him?
I told him it's okay and that I understood the way he was feeling and that everything will be okay.
Today this little lad will become a part of my family.
I hope our hugs heal his traumatic experience.
Still thinking of a suitable name for him. Any suggestions?

Just joined the group, and by way of introduction, I’m retired and I’ve picked up cell phone photography as a hobby. My passion is flowers, bugs, beaches and sunsets since I live on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, Alabama! My first post is my Queen of the Night, which fully opens close to midnight and closes at sunrise. A “one night only” performance which is worth staying up to photograph. She’s truly a divine diva! Shot with my single lens iPhone SE 2nd Gen with native edits on a pitch dark patio with my patient husband holding a flashlight!

"This is 'Irma', she is one of the Muscovy ducks that hangs out in the ponds in front of, and behind our house in Plant City, Florida. About a month ago she laid 13 eggs at the base of the Live Oak tree in the front yard. She usually gets on and off the nest multiple times a day to eat and drink. When I got up this past Sunday morning Irma was on her nest. The weather was already turning nasty with high winds and rain. Towards evening as the hurricane was heading towards us, we had torrential rains and wind gusts up to 107mph! Irma hunkered down and never left her nest. We could watch her from our bathroom window as if we were lucky and never lost power. When the eye of the hurricane was over our house we went out to check on her and she was still sitting tight. After the eye passed the wind and rain kicked up again and we finally went to sleep around 2:00am. When we woke up Monday morning, there was Irma, still sitting on her nest, covered in broken tree branches and Spanish moss, but alive and unharmed, all 13 eggs still intact. Monday was still very windy and Irma had yet to leave her nest so we brought her food and water which she readily accepted. Today, Tuesday, she finally got up from her nest, stretched her legs, and took a quick dip in the pond before heading back to her eggs. So, here's to Irma, super duck, who sat through a category 2-3 hurricane, protecting her eggs, and said 'not today hurricane Irma, not on my watch!' Looking forward to having 13 Muscovy ducklings soon, pooping all over our driveway."

No one prepares you for the day when Christmas is quiet and peaceful because the kids are all grown.
Hold onto the magic.
Cherish the days when the living room is flooded with paper, random Lego pieces, Little People and toys that play songs so much you sing them in your sleep.
Hold onto those days because one day you’ll wake up & they will be gone.
When that day happens you’ll long to have the noise and mess of a little kid’s Christmas just one more time”

“We’ve always said we support all animals, and know the relationship with those animals and their person is an incredible thing.
Yesterday in Houston, a police horse was spooked, bucked the rider and ran into the street where she was unfortunately then hit by a truck. The amazing part of this tragic story is what her rider did while she lay in the street. This is a picture of Officer D. Herrejon laying with her while she took her last breath.
We admire the heart and strength of this officer because, as you know, when you lose an animal, to be with them during their last breath is a heartbreaking and tough thing to do. Thank you to him for loving his partner and friend until the end. Our hearts go out to him and the Houston Police family. RIP Charlotte.”😔

I saved his half-dead infected life from severe wounds and certain death caused by deep feral cat bites,
…and he literally melts into Joe.
I take him to Lowe’s, fishing, Starbucks, and even to my book writing spot on the Appalachian Trail,
…and he crawls into my disabled brother and sleeps the deepest of rests.
I feed him, bathe him, cut his nails, grind his medicines, even make him smoothies,
…and he thinks Joe is the Opossum God.
I kiss him, love him, nap with him, and slip him honey-roasted peanuts,
…and he and Joe do a nightly Vulcan Body meld.
I make him Possum Pate’ and scrumptious delights, walk him nightly, and can’t wait to kiss his nose,
…and within two minutes of Joe, they’re like a statue carved from critters.

This is what baby platypus look like! The platypus is definitely one of the most extraordinary animals! It’s a mammal that lays eggs, has a duck bill, beaver tail, otter feet, and is venomous. It uses electroreceptors to locate prey, has eyes with double cones, no stomach, and 10 chromosomes. And it's fluorescent and glows under UV light!

The female falcon was equipped with a GPS tracker during its journey from South Africa to Finland, covering about 230 km per day.
It flew in a straight line across the African lands until it reached the desert in the north, then headed towards the path of the Nile River over Sudan and Egypt, then avoided flying over the Mediterranean Sea.
It crossed over Syria and Lebanon, and also avoided flying over the Black Sea, because if it got thirsty, it would not be able to drink from it.
It continued in a straight line and reached Finland after 42 days.

At 10:15 PM last night, she took her final breath. Only the day before, she was so happy. We noticed her breathing seemed off, but we thought perhaps she had gotten too hot. Sadly, it turned out she was suffering from congestive heart failure. We gave her the medication that the vet suggested, but just three hours later, she experienced respiratory distress, and we had to put her to sleep.
Fourteen years with Kiah flew by, and it simply wasn’t long enough. Our hearts are broken. Sleep well, Kiah—we miss you more than words can say."
