How YOU Can Change the Life of a Dog:

Adopt: If you're able, give a shelter dog a forever home.

Foster: Some shelter dogs need special attention or the shelter can't meet their needs. Fostering allows you time to prepare a dog for its new home.

Volunteer: Shelters can always use help walking, grooming, or tending to pets.

Spay/Neuter: Help control overpopulation by responsibly caring for your dogs.

Paws up for this adorable breed, it's International Chihuahua Day. While you might know that this feisty pup originally hails from Mexico, here are a few fun facts about the world's smallest breed of dog.

1. They've likely shrunk over time. Early chihuahuas were likely larger than we are used to now after being crossed breed with small Asian dog breeds.

2. Just like human babies, chihuahuas have a soft spot on the skull, but unfortunately for some, it never seals up, so play gently.

3. They are stubborn geniuses. Their relatively large brain makes them easy to train, but their very small bladder makes house training a lot less fun.

4. Chihuahuas love each other. You might find that your chihuahua prefers other dogs of the same breed over other companions.

5. You can still find wild chihuahuas roaming the US. In 2014, thousands showed up in an Arizona neighborhood.

Unlike waste from herbivores, your dog's p**p is not suitable for compost.

In fact, it can be a breeding ground for bacteria and disease. These diseases can be transmitted to your dog, other pets, and humans. Contaminated dog p**p that makes it into waterways and drinking water can also affect plants and wildlife.

Keep you and your pets healthy (and your neighbors happy) and scoop that p**p! 💩

Is your pup's ID up-to-date? It's National Pet ID Week and now is your chance to make sure your pet's tags and microchips are current with your information. This gives you the best possible chance to be reunited should separation occur.

Questions to ask this week:
🐾 Is your information current AND readable on your pet's tag?
🐾 Does your pet's collar fit properly?
🐾 Is there visible wear on the collar or tags that might lead to them breaking off?
🐾 Is your pet's microchip registered with your most current information?
🐾 Does the microchip work? Do you have your microchip brand and number easily accessible?
