2024 was the year I promised I’d remind myself that I’m not just a voice teacher and specialist, but that I am a performer, too. It’s easy to let it slip away. It’s easy to feel like “you’re singing plenty” when you’re making noises with people all day. It’s easy to feel like you aren’t forgetting how to perform because you help clients craft performances for a living. But before you know it, it’s been years. And now you put all this pressure on yourself because you happen to know a lot about how the human voice works (and the world happens to know that you know all those things thanks social media 😅) and so you decide they’re all expecting you to be literally perfect all the time. So then, more years pass, because WHO’S EVER GONNA BE PERFECT? Let’s just say its been a nervous system journey for SURE. But I am grateful for the time to explore. I am grateful for mentors who get this work and will help hold mah hand through the hard parts (looking at you Barron - Vocal Coach 🫶) From one healing perfectionist to another: what if the answer wasn’t in “bettering your instrument” or “training harder” but in finding some real healing?
