Shorecore metal stalwarts SOLACE have signed with Magnetic Eye Records. The New Jersey/Philly five-piece will issue an expanded edition of their iconic debut "Further" in celebration of its 25th anniversary this summer, along with an upcoming new full-length in the works and expected in late 2025.

From guitarist Justin Daniels:

"Solace are happy to announce our signing to Magnetic Eye, a label we respect and more importantly who respects us. We're looking forward to an awesome partnership that lets us get more of our dirt metal out to the world.

"This announcement is bittersweet in coming just a week after the passing of our original singer Jason. If nothing else, Solace perseveres as long as we can lift guitars and switch on amps. We move through sadness and look forward to honoring Jason's legacy and our own with this newest chapter of the band."

Label Director Jadd Shickler adds:

"I had the privilege to sign Solace in 1999. They were the best band my first label ever signed, and they still are. Through different incarnations and numerous line-ups, I've dedicated countless years to making sure as many people as possible saw and heard their greatness, and I'm more than ready for Magnetic Eye to ram Solace's music down throats for countless more years to come."

SOLACE will embark on a run of US live dates through the South and Southwest this month, kicking off January 23 in Richmond, VA.

Join us in welcoming the Jersey legends to the label, and don't miss your chance to see them in action on stage if you're within driving distance of one of these shows:

Two new records, a much-demanded reissue, a Redux track and a 10-year anniversary, 2024 was the year of Elephant Tree, and we saw it in the outpouring of love for all they did.  Drummer Sam provides his Songs on a Theme wrap-up:

Top 5 Songs of with (tenuous) Farm Animal References – Sam/Elephant Tree

"I don't avoid “new” music, but I also don't actively seek it out. That said, here are a few new discoveries I've strung together with a questionable link.

1. King Gizzard - Phantom Island
Lots of animals in this one! Not sure you can farm tortoises, but hey 🤷‍♂️ King Gizzard are my go-to good time listen, they cover so many styles and there's always something to lift the mood.  Lyric: "Coconut congas playing in time with the waltz of a tortoise."

2. Lowrider - Horse You Rode In On
A balls out banger. Classic grooves and those rolling, rumbling riffs we all love from the band, this track has them in spades. Also fun to sing, especially at scaffolders who block your access road. Lyric: "And the horse you rode in on!"

3. Amyl And The Sniffers - Pigs
Pigs have a reputation for being dirty, and so do Amyl and The Sniffers lyrics. This one may lack in blue language, but they don't let up on fist-pumping punk energy. Perfect accompaniment to that 4th hour of a long motorway drive, equally on a Monday evening after Only Connect gets you in the mood to punch a window. Lyric: “'Cause we're all pigs after all”

4. Daffodil Pill - Swallow Song
Swallows fly in huge flocks when they migrate, sweeping across the sky. That's how this comes across, one big swirling explosion of energy, twisting and turning its way along for four and a half minutes. Lyric: It says Swallow in the title, is that not enough?!

5. Mountain Caller - Daybreak
We toured with these guys and I was mesmerized each night by their premise to convey a story within the music, often without lyrics. The evolving riffs, especially the payoff gem at the end, take you on an absolute adventure.  Lyric: I've abandoned that. Farms have daybreaks or something? You work it out.

Towering cheers and congratulations to our own Psychlona for their commanding stance atop Doom Charts mountain, having firmly secured #1 on the year end 2024 chart 💪🎸🏔️

Hails and horns up also to the absolute avalanche of Magnetic Eye and Blues Funeral artists whose latest records appeared across this chart as well, with Greenleaf at #3, Elephant Tree's and Lowrider's split LP at #9, Blue Heron at #13, Mammoth Volume at #23, Hashtronaut at #35, Lord Buffalo at #38, Horseburner at #42, High Desert Queen at #47, Heavy Temple at #53, Abrams at #57, delving at #73, Leather Lung at #83 and Worshipper at #86 - wow! An inarguably dominant year for both labels and our artists, and we're proud as hell of them all 💙😎🤘

Greenleaf are one of the most incredible bands of the past decade, and they're kicking as much ass today as they ever have 💪 In 2024, they made a record of unequivocal heavy rock perfection with 'The Head & The Habit,' and frankly, none of us deserve the greatness these guys bring into our lives year after year, album after album, tour after tour.

Singer Arvid presents his succinct Songs on a Theme to cap off a year that included multiple festivals, tours with Psychlona and Slomosa, and reissues of three of their early LPs from back in their rotating collective days, along with the divine gift of their latest release.

Top 5 Songs from 2024 About Horses - Arvid/Greenleaf

Slomosa - Horses
The original and possible the best song of the year about horses! A testament to this four-legged creature and a statement in catchiness and how happy a pony can make you feel.

Lowrider - And The Horse You Rode In On
When a political statement is delivered by talking about horses it is simply always the best. And makes you really think! This one is also so melodic and so heavy at the same time. And our friend Karl Daniel Liden killed it on the mixing per usual.

Big & Rich - Save a Horse, Ride A Cowboy
Doesn't need any introduction, the title says it all.

Toby Keith & Willie Nelson - Beer For My Horses
We all need a drink now and then, and so do the horses. So just sit down in the saddle, relax, and let your dreams gallop away on the plains...

Greenleaf - Different Horses
You need some to be different. And it shouldn't be a bad thing to stick out. We wanted to talk about the misfits, the mules of the pack, the ones that people forget to mention. The horses that want more ❤️

A bunch of our bands nabbed slots on The Obelisk's 2024 Year in Review, with the unassailable new albums from Brume landing at #2, Greenleaf at #5, Heavy Temple at #10, High Desert Queen at #19 and Psychlona at #60 💪👀🔥

Congrats to so many of our killer bands and labelmates landing in JJ's top 20, but more than that, we hope all of these and more of our badass slabs from the year are still in constant rotation with all you discriminating fans of the heavy! 🤘🪐🎸

WORSHIPPER made an absolute banger with 'One Way Trip' this year, merging vintage rock anthems with timeless riffs, like the best Dio-era Rainbow record that Dio-era Rainbow never made, yet still feeling fresh and rooted in modern heavy rock. No surprise, singer/guitarist John Brookhouse ties what they do in nicely to his Songs on a Theme:

“As a guitarist who grew up shredding but now mostly listens to post-punk and psych/garage music, the things that excite me on guitar are a bit different than back in the day. Here’s a little sampling of my favorite guitar moments this year.”

Top 5 Guitar Moments of 2024 – John/Worshipper

Zero Sum - The Smile
It’s been a long time since I’ve been this stumped by a guitar part. Even if you hate Radiohead, listen to this and tell me it doesn’t break your brain a little. This album is also their most solid outing yet.

Endsong - The Cure
The little repetitive guitar motif on this gives me the same vibes as “How Soon is now.” This whole album is a masterpiece of melancholy, and this song in particular just destroys me.

Nimh - SLIFT
Jean Fossat is one of my favorite current guitar players. This band evolved in a really profound way on this album and I love his use of effects and his note choices. Plus, at the end of the day, he can go full Hendrix on a solo if the moment calls for it.

Travesty - Schedule 1
This whole album is great and frustratingly under the radar, but I picked this song because the guitar does this kind of sped-up Geordie Walker/Killing Joke-style riff that I love. This band is a great mix of post-punk influence and modern hardcore intent.

Bleak Patterns - REZN
REZN has some really interesting guitar stuff happening that I find inspiring. This song is a nice cross section of their ability to mix eastern melodies and crushing post-metal. I always love when a band can bring the heaviness with melody and emotion.

In a year that saw our fearless artist roster give all of us so many brilliant and unforgettable records, we're overwhelmed to bring forth one more gift to heavy music fans everywhere:

American hard rock titans Lo-Pan have signed with Magnetic Eye Records, and early next year will release their towering new full length LP, their first in over five years 👀💪

This label loves working with rising talent, but we're also increasingly a home for musical icons. With a legacy of blistering and soaring melodic heaviness going back to the first decade of the 2000s, Lo-Pan is the living, crushing definition of ICONIC 🔥🎸

Keep your eyes and ears open early in the new year for what's to come from this band, and get those horns up as we close out the season on an even higher note 🤘

San Francisco’s BRUME crafted one of the most hauntingly beautiful albums of this and any other year with ‘Marten,’ full of deep tones, expansive atmospherics and dizzying melodic crescendos. It was really an honor to present this record to the world, and we hope those who are into bands like Windhand, Blood Ceremony, The Otolith and Bleakheart give ‘Marten’ the attention it deserves.

Today Brume guitarist/sometimes-singer Jamie McCathie offers up his Songs on a Theme.

Top 5 songs to Dance with Yourself to: Jamie/Brume

1. Idles “Grace”

This band is as good as it gets, and their new album just continues to blow my mind. In your face, angry yet brave, and lyrically beautiful. This song gives me all the feels, it’s the perfect introspective tune.

2. Little Simz “Mood Swings”

This song is a banger. Think early Bjork beats with the best British rapper (PERIOD) on top of it. Her style is undeniable. The drops are explosive. I rage to this while cooking dinner.

3. The Smile “Read the Room”

The riff is addictive, the arrangement is insane, and while it may not be your average floor filler, I dare you not to have yer head nodding continually through it - that’s kinda dancing, right? Also, holy s**t that drummer.

4. Gurt “Knife Fever”

The homies dropped the best bedroom mosh pit song of 2024. Crushingly heavy but as ever, London’s party doomers somehow make me wanna move my hips like Jagger and punch people. Genius.

5. Bon Iver “Awards Season”

The best kind of dancing by yourself is when you don’t dance at all. You just sit and feel. That’s what this song does for me. Simple, beautiful songwriting. Kick everyone out and put this on, you’ll thank me later.

Rising from the ashes of T**E at the headland of Cape Fear, North Carolina comes BRONCO, Magnetic Eye's latest signing and the most brutal band you're about to fall in love with 🖤💪

Crawling, heavy aggression, molasses riffs, and barbed wire vocals come with the terrain in North Carolina, where seminal acts like WEEDEATER and SOUR VEIN cut their teeth, making it perfect and inevitable for BRONCO to coalesce their blend of honest, forward-pushing and unfiltered sludge there.

Their musical confidence didn't just fall from the sky. After T**e guitarist Tim Bryan's tragic 2021 motorcycle accident, vocalist/bassist Bronco and drummer JP decided to continue forward with a newly formed trio out of respect for their incapacitated bandmate. Joined by guitarist Vic, they chose Bronco's artist alias as their new band's name.

BRONCO's self-titled debut LP bleeds forth a mix of grinding horror and beat-down resignation. It's a soundtrack to grim reflection and forced acceptance of life's letdowns. BRONCO pick up where T**e left off, carrying forward in defiant, unrelenting individuality.

Listen to lead single "Ride Eternal" on all platforms now, and preorder 'Bronco' at our web shop and Bandcamp on limited LP and digisleeve CD. The album arrives in February 2025, and you can undoubtedly expect to find Bronco hitting the road hard as the newest and heaviest sludge standard bearer in the scene.

For now, we enthusiastically welcome BRONCO to the label and hope you're ready for their titanic heaviness!
