The Met Department continues to provide updates on the Tropical Storm 🌀 IALY.
🌀 After briefly reaching the cyclone stage, IALY weakens into a strong tropical storm. Its remarkable position near the equator at this intensity ensures its lasting recognition.
Heading northward, 's center is expected to stay at least 150km away from the East African coasts. Peripheral bands of the system continue to touch parts of the African coast.
Moderate 🌧️ rain, storms, and windy conditions are forecasted along the western periphery of the system, affecting the coastal areas of Kenya, and neighboring countries. Waves greater than 3 meters are anticipated along the coasts of Kenya and adjacent countries.
IALY is expected to undergo rapid weakening in the coming hours, dissipating completely by Wednesday while remaining offshore. The residual vortex is unlikely to persist long enough to cross the equator!

The WMO State of Global Water Resources 2022 report highlights the Greater Horn of Africa as a region that is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and water scarcity. The report notes that the region has experienced a series of severe droughts in recent years, which have had a devastating impact on livelihoods and food security. The report also warns that the situation is likely to worsen in the future, as climate change is expected to lead to more frequent and severe droughts and floods in the region. The report also notes that the region's population is growing rapidly, which will put additional pressure on water resources. Climate resilience is essential for the future of the Greater Horn of Africa The 65th Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF65) brought together experts from across the region to discuss how climate services can be used to build resilience to climate change. The forum was a launchpad for actionable change, with participants exploring innovative mitigation measures that have the potential to reshape the IGAD region's climate resilience landscape. Climate resilience is the ability of people, communities, and systems to withstand, adapt to, and recover from shocks and stresses related to climate change. It is essential for the future of the Greater Horn of Africa, a region that is already experiencing the impacts of climate change, such as more extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and changes in agricultural yields. Climate services are tools and products that help people understand and use climate information. They can be used to support decision-making in a variety of sectors, such as agriculture, water resources, and disaster risk management. The GHACOF65 forum highlighted the importance of climate services for building Sceniro planning in the Greater Horn of Africa. As well as #ElNiño conditions were forecast for the October, November to December season 2023. During the event Participants explored how climate services can be used to: 📣Improve early warning systems:Climate services can be used to provide early warning of extreme weather events, such as droughts and floods. This information can help people take action to protect themselves and their property. 🌾Support agricultural planning:Climate services can be used to help farmers plan their crops and irrigation systems in accordance with expected weather patterns. This can help to improve crop yields and reduce food insecurity. 💧💧Manage water resources: Climate services can be used to help water managers plan for changes in water availability. This can help to ensure that t
