NUP's life expectancy may be shorter than FDC,DP's- Walter Lubega Mukaku

Former presidential candidate Walter Lubega Mukaku has expressed that the National Unity Platform (NUP) may have a shorter lifespan than the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the Democratic Party (DP), despite its initial promise and potential to become a strong and vibrant party.

NUP is led by Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, while DP is led by Norbert Mao, who also serves as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Mukaku's comments came on Wednesday after he led a group identifying themselves as the DP-Bloc in announcing their termination of cooperation with NUP.

Accompanied by former Makindye East MP Michael Mabikke, Mukaku accused NUP's leadership of dictatorial tendencies that hindered their plans to effect regime change in Uganda.

The discontented members claimed that NUP had shifted its focus from the struggle for regime change to internal conflicts within the opposition, rather than targeting President Museveni.

Mukaku was one of the early supporters of Kyagulanyi, assisting him when he contested Apollo Katinti in the Kyaddondo East by-election in 2017.

Censure motion hits speed bumps as MPs demand evidence

Theodore Ssekikubo and fellow censure motion movers hit speed bumps on Thursday when a group of legislators demanded evidence of corruption against the four parliamentary commissioners.

Lwemiyaga County MP Ssekikubo and Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi have spent the last six days tagging at every passing legislator's shirt or blouse and urging them to append their signature to paperwork that could see four MPs thrown out of the Parliamentary Commission.

Esther Afoyochan (Zombo Woman - NRM), Prossy Akampulira Mbabazi (Rubanda Woman - NRM}, Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central - NRM}, and Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe -NUP) face censure over pocking at total of Shs1.7 billion as service award without the approval of the House.

But drama unfolded yesterday with unexpected twists and turns as MPs demanded concrete evidence of corruption in the petition.

Initially, the atmosphere at the censure motion desk seemed routine, with members readily endorsing the removal of their commissioners.

However, this changed swiftly as a group of legislators demanded proof of corruption allegations against the officials they were being asked to censure.

Skepticism arose regarding the motives behind the motion's instigators.

Wilfred Niwagaba, the Shadow attorney general, refused to sign the censure motion until provided with tangible evidence of the alleged misconduct, emphasisng the importance of transparency and adherence to rules.

Nathan Byanyima, echoing Niwagaba's sentiments, expressed concerns about potential ulterior motives and cautioned against pressuring MPs to sign based on threats of electoral consequences.

Byanyima stressed the necessity for clear grounds for censure and urged for transparency in the process to ensure its success. He emphasized the importance of thorough examination and understanding of the petition's details to avoid loopholes.

Accusations flew between MPs, with some accusing their colleagues of w

President Museveni has summoned Speaker Anita Among for a meeting that sources say will touch on wide-ranging issues.

Top of the agenda is the State of the Nation Address, the Nile Post has been told, which the President wants to understand how it is being prepared.

Mr Museveni will address the nation on the status of the economy and other governance issues on June 6 ahead of the 2024/25 National Budget reading a week later.

The meeting at State House comes on the back of the Speaker facing intense scrutiny weighted by debilitating sanctions imposed by Western governments.

The US government on Thursday joined the UK in designating the Speaker, this time including her husband Moses Magogo, planning junior minister Amos Lugoloobi and the former deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Peter Elwelu.

However, the Speaker arrives at State House on the back of another tetchy issue in the House she superintends - of the ruling NRM legislators Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga County) and Sarah Opendi (Tororo Woman) leading a censure motion that could see three political compatriots potted in the trench of ignominy.

Mr Museveni has been angry over the so-called service award and the Speaker's decision to back off and watch as Ssekikubo and Opendi lure one legislator after another adds to speculation that the ruling party is in it.

On Friday, Soroti West MP Jonathan Ebwalu shocked the censure motion desk by appending his signature after previously being at the forefront to pulling fellow legislators away from the same.

Mr Ebwalu is one of Speaker Among's most loyal members of the 11th Parliament and his dramatic U-turn has led to speculation that he had been ordered to submit to the unspoken authority.

We won't allow NUP to continue with rallies - Police............................................................................

Police has once against halted all National Unity Platform rallies going forward.

In a Friday evening statement, Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said the law enforcement body had decided to stop the rallies after a deadly accident at Maya along the Kampala- Masaka Highway.

“As the government agency mandated to protect life and property, keep law and order, the police management has decided to halt any further consultative activities of NUP as a party with immediate effect until this matter is conclusively investigated and resolved,” Enanga said.

A Friday morning accident involving two vehicles and three motorcycles led to the death of three people including two boda boda riders and a passenger.

Police had earlier said the accident happened when a Toyota Hiace which was part of NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi’s procession to Masaka knocked a Toyota Noah which in turn rammed into the three motorcycles.

Two people died on the spot while the third succumbed to injuries while being rushed to hospital for treatment.

According to police , whereas in the meeting with the National Unity Platform leaders, it was agreed to maintain discipline before, during and after their mobilization rallies, this was not the case.

They also accused NUP of blocking roads during their processions.

“NUP have disregarded the agreed position and continue to act with impunity as demonstrated in today’s unfortunate incident at Maya.”

Enanga added, “We appeal to the public to remain vigilant, observe law and order. Whoever acts contrary to public order and safety shall be held accountable under the laws of Uganda. The safety of Ugandans will always remain our priority.”

The development comes on the backdrop of Kyagulanyi's rally in Masaka in which he made a statement, especially against former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga, whose supporters said the NUP leader wouldn't be allowed to step foot in their backyard.

Shun election violence - EC boss Justice Byabakama asks youths

The chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama has asked youths to stay clear of violence during elections.

His call to action was made during a public lecture at the Kabale University Playground in Kabale Municipality attended by students from various universities and higher education institutions in the Kabale district and its neighboring districts.

During his address, Justice Byabakama highlighted the vulnerability of the youth to manipulation by individuals who incite violence for personal gain while avoiding direct involvement.

The youth form the largest percentage of participants in election campaigns and are often exploited by individuals who do not have the country's best interests at heart,"Byabakama stated.

"I wonder why the youth are always given small moneys to cause violence in elections."

He also cautioned against the misuse of social media, urging the youth to harness their online presence for educational purposes.

"Use your data bundles productively to conduct research and expand your knowledge," Byabakama advised.

He further stressed the importance of refraining from disseminating hate speech and respecting differing opinions.

Justice Byabakama reminded the youth of their civic responsibilities, referencing Article 59 of the Ugandan Constitution.

He underscored that every citizen aged 18 and above has the right and duty to vote and participate in public elections and referenda.

"It is crucial for you to work towards a united, stable, peaceful, and prosperous Uganda committed to socio-economic transformation."

Encouraging active engagement in all levels of leadership, Justice Byabakama emphasized the importance of local governance.

He urged the youth not only to focus on presidential and parliamentary elections but also to engage in leadership roles at the sub-county, parish, and village levels, which are essential for effective governance.

Uganda to host African liberation day celebrations

Under the theme "Guaranteeing a safe environment for a digital Pan African Education System: creating a Centre of Gravity for the United African States (USA)," Uganda is gearing up to host the African Liberation Day Celebrations on 25 May 2024 at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

African Liberation Day is a significant event commemorated annually on 25 May to mark the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU), in 1963.

This day celebrates the progress made towards the liberation of African countries from colonial rule and the ongoing efforts to promote unity and development across the continent.

Dr. Jibril Ssemakula, CEO Million trees 🌳

Business Development has generally outweighed the need of environmental protection. Reasonably why a business man will clear Hectares of a natural forest to establish sugar plantations with acknowledgement and approvals from the Government.

How best can protected forests contribute to the national revenue status without clearing them ⁉️This must be through eco tourism, and other recreational ventures.

The said Carbon Crediting and Financing programs, will benefit our revenue status depending on the forest cover. The more the forests, the higher the rate CO2 sequestration with more credits for financing.

We're all waiting for the National Structural Framework explaining this concept of Carbon Crediting and Financing, under the Ministry of Water and Environment.

Greening Uganda Campaign is a call inviting everyone to keep Uganda's topography green. It's non profitable and non segregative.

In this era of elites, we must all be aware of the various roles of a protected environment," Dr Jibril explains

AGABA BANABUS GERSHOM - ANALYST

And you will never get what you want in Uganda's politics.

Citizens are also right to demand a bribe, aka 'AKAHOGO' from aspiring leaders.

They had originally voted under the promises of service delivery but later betrayed.

What leaders only do is to share huge chunks of taxpayers' money by themselves, leaving no service on the ground.

Leaders, including M7 , keep that money accumulated to buy votes , kill opponent supporters, or kidnap them.

This has created a meaningless interest and participation in voting/election process by citizens.

So, expect no change when this regime is still here

Mr. Barungi Jim eying Kazo Constituency seat 2026

It is challenging to have someone to guard elections when that person looks at that responsibility as a one day job expecting to earn as little as 50k or 10k! And expect him/ her not to be bribed by mafias with 50k or above.

Certain responsibilities require ethics and principles, not money.
As long as someone is corruptible, then expect manipulation as the only remedy.

Candidates have a big challenge to select and appoint agents who're claiming for the little allowance to protect votes! Some candidates have increased the stake to protect votes due to fear of dishonest voters.

I think elections should be online voting where one person one vote can be emphasized by the system.

However, there's fear of systems being tampered with by the technical staff. But it would be the perfect method to use. If technology can be used in census, why not in elections.

Do you agree with him?

12/05/2024

In a strategic move aimed at solidifying President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s bid for reelection in the upcoming 2026 Elections, the Special Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs and head Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, has unveiled an ambitious grassroots mobilization plan.

With meticulous attention to detail, the plan involves the establishment of coordinators across various administrative levels throughout the country. At the village level, 10 coordinators have been appointed, ensuring that even the most remote areas are included in the campaign’s outreach efforts.

Moving up to the parish level, five coordinators have been designated per parish, expanding the reach of the campaign to local communities.

Furthermore, at the sub-county level, three coordinators will be strategically positioned to oversee campaign activities within their respective constituencies. This hierarchical structure ensures that every electoral area receives targeted attention and support.

Speaking on the unveiling of the mobilization plan, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo emphasized the importance of grassroots engagement in securing victory for President Museveni.

She expressed confidence in the capabilities of the appointed coordinators to galvanize support and ensure a resounding success in the upcoming elections.

“This meticulously crafted organizational framework aims to harness local support and enthusiasm for President Museveni’s candidacy. By establishing a strong presence at every level of administration, the campaign hopes to effectively communicate its message and mobilize voters across the nation,” she said.

At the same event, the SPA/PA ONC also had an interaction with leaders and stakeholders of the fisheries sector and discussed pressing issues affecting their industry.

NUP registrars urged to issue membership cards to people in person

Our comrades from Gomba district have foiled a plan by regime officials who intend to procure our party membership cards in bulk and utilize them for politicking.

We are reliably informed that some regime officials want to but our NUP cards and distribute them to people whom they will later unveil to Gen. Museveni as converts in his looming Gomba district visit slated for next month.

In light of this, our district registrars and focal persons are advised to issue membership cards to people in person, as opposed to giving them out in bulk.

Our supporters are therefore asked to reach out to registrars in person, instead of delegating people to collect the membership cards on their behalf.

Concerns

Queries have been arising from our esteemed supporters seeking to know about provisions of digital registration for membership, whether or not to register for the second time, among other things.

Well comrades, to set the record straight; we wish to reiterate that the mass registration drive is targeting NEW members who have never registered with us and therefore those who had already subscribed to our membership should NOT register again in the ongoing exercise. For our diaspora comrades seeking clarity on the digital enrollment process, we are tirelessly working with our technical team to see how that provision can be put in place.

Note: Membership Cards can be accessed from our respective district registrars and focal persons at an affordable price of UGX 1,000

President Museveni, yesterday, hosted a delegation of African parliamentarians at State House Entebbe as they concluded their second African Inter-Parliamentary Conference, which centered around the values and sovereignty of Africa.

In offering guidance, he pointed out two main challenges to overcome.

Firstly, the greed and selfishness that foreign powers exhibit in their dealings with the African continent.

Secondly, Africa's weakness leaves Africans vulnerable to exploitation by those who seek to take advantage of us.

He added that It is crucial to address internal issues like greed and disunity.
