Mao Celebrates Lukwago’s Exit from DP

Democratic Party (DP) President Nobert Mao has celebrated the exit of Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who officially joined Forum Democratic Change (FDC) party on Tuesday.

Addressing journalists at DP’s weekly press briefing, Mao who has been known to be at loggerheads with Lukwago, revealed that he is not surprised with the Mayor’s decision, especially during this election period.

Mao said that it’s during this period that they are going to find out real members of the Democratic Party from pretenders.

“When a cat gives birth we get both real and wild cats. It scares them and wild cats run away as the real ones remain. The current situation has shown us real cats leaning against the mother party and wild ones leaving the party,” Mao said.

Mao pointed out that DP has groomed a number of politicians from zero and they have been elected in various offices but unfortunately, many of them have turned against the party and abused its leaders.

“I am disappointed by the fact that many people whom we have made are the ones working against the party to the extent of asking many of our people not to contest on any elective position on DP card,” Mao lamented.

Mao added that Democratic Party has free entry and exit and therefore it’s not right for some members to block the entrance for others.

Mao’s leadership has faced a lot of opposition from various long time members to the extent that some had decided to put in place a parallel Central Executive Committee for the party which was recently nullified by Court.

Some members have left the party well as others no longer actively participate in party activities due to the grudges they hold with the current leadership.

After crossing to FDC, Lukwago applauded Dr. Kawanga Ssemwogerere the Former President General of DP for having granted him an opportunity to serve the party through taking on numerous cases against it.

He revealed that his life Card for the Democratic Party will be a Souvenir which will always remind him of his journey within the party.

Comedians ‘Bizonto’ Speak Out on Detention, Way Forward

Shortly after their release from Police detention, the four comedians known as Bizonto who had been arrested for promoting sectarianism in one of their skits, have narrated their ordeal but vowed to carry on with their work.

The four, who were freed on police bond are Sabakaki Simon, Serwanja Julius, Mbabali Maliseri and Sematono Gold Ray

Addressing press at Radio Simba in Bukoto immediately after their release, the comedians applauded journalists, media houses, lawyers and all individuals who worked tirelessly to have them released from detention

These said their arrest taught them important lessons which they plan to use in developing and improving upon

” Upon arrest we were shown the video which went viral on various social media platforms. The one we put on Youtube contained the same message but the one which appeared on Facebook had some editing with photos of individuals we mentioned.” They said.

One of them Mbabaali Maliseri however, said they would still continue providing Ugandans with professional educative comedy skits as they have done in the past years

The four also sought to dismiss rumours that had been spreading that it was one of their fellow comedians behind their arrest.

The group was arrested on Friday last week and released on the orders of Buganda Road court grade one Magistrate Stella Amabirisi.

Chameleon, Producer Diggy Baur Are now Real friends!!!!!

Musician, also aspiring Kampala Lord Mayor Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleon on Tuesday settled issues with music producer Diggy Baur of Sabula Records with whom they have not been seeing eye to eye for the past one month.

The relationship between these two went bitter early this month when Baur accused the singer of assaulting one of the producers at Sabula records.

Baur vowed to take revenge on Chameleon so that he will never undermine any Ugandan producer again on top of suspending him from the studio.

However, on Tuesday, July 28, the two met and settled their differences.

According to Baur, who didn’t want to dig deeper into their agreement, he and Chameleon are longtime friends and brothers who decided to bury the hatchet for the good of the Music Industry and Uganda as a whole.

“We are going to release a new hit this Wednesday with my brother Chameleon entitled ‘Akawowo’ so people should watch out for it,” said Baur.

He added that their relationship can be equated to that of mad people who attack each other and in the end put their differences aside and resume a normal life.

Sources revealed that the aspiring Lord Mayor has apologized to the producer and promised that such an incident will never happen again.

"Quarantine At Own Cost For Two Weeks Or Go To Jail For Three Years," Police to La-Venti Arrested Revellers

The bar revellers that were arrested at the Najeera based La Venti and other bars around the city for violating Ministry of Health and Presidential directives for the prevention of covid19 have apparently been given an option of either getting quarantined for two weeks at their own cost or they go to jail for three months.
However, it's also understood that those that will accept to be quarantined will be charged in the courts of law after their quarantined.

At least two Kampala arcade owners have agreed to forgive their tenants of all rent arrears since the Covid19 lock down.

The landlords however, say they will only do this if President Yoweri Museveni appeals to them personally.

This was revealed by Hon Benna Namugwanya the Junior KCCA Minister in a televised interview on Tuesday morning.

The minister says the landlords, whose names she declined to reveal, had refused to talk to any other government official other than the president.

“They told us they didn’t want hear from me, or from Betty Kamya, or Hon Kyambadde or Katumba Wamala. They just want the request to come from the president,” Namugwanya told Salt Tv.

“And so we are organizing a meeting so they can meet the president. I thank God because the president we have has a soft heart; I know he will accept to meet them for the people of Uganda.”

The Minister also projected hope that many more landlords will be showing kindness to their struggling tenants.

So far, she said, a total of 5 landlords had agree to forgive all rent arrears since March.

“Together with Minister (Amelia) Kyambadde we have had many meetings and I want to thank some landlords who have agreed to forgive rent to their clients for the entire lockdown period,” she said.

“There are some landlords who have even bought masks for everybody that rents in their arcades. But we are still begging and mediating. A few are still refusing to help and we are still talking to them, because there is no low that compels them. It has to come from their heart; forgiveness comes from the heart. Other landlords have agreed to forgive one month, others two and others the entire period.”

Lawyers representing local Kadongo Kamu musician Gerald Kiwewa have vowed to petition High court once their client is not released.

Kiwewa was arrested last week on allegations of producing a song that disturbed the peace of Hon Aida Nantaba, the Kayunga woman MP.

Appearing at CID Headquarters where their client is said to be detained, on Monday, these said that it was unfair to continue keeping their client in custody after the elapse of 48 mandatory hours without producing him before the court.

The team of lawyers including Shamim Malende, Anthony Wameli, and Eria Nawembe was accompanied by Kiwewa’s family members who had come to meet their relative.

However, these were not accorded a chance to talk to h which annoyed them.

Addressing the press, Shamim Malende, one of the lawyers said that they have tried all possible means to access their client but in vain.

“We are only left with legal means and very soon we shall file a habeas corpus to compel the authorities to produce him in court.”

Mr. Kayongo, Kiwewa’s father expressed his dissatisfaction with the continued detention of his son when the person who was said to be a complainant distanced herself from this matter.

Charles Twine the spokesperson for CID said that investigations in the matter are complete and the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for perusal.

Twine added that once the DPP finds the evidence enough, Kiwewa will be produced in court and in case she decides otherwise, he may be released

Exclusive: Erias Lukwago, Kasibante, Ssewanyana Expected to Join FDC

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and lawmakers Moses Kasibante and Ssewanyana are set to join Uganda’s largest opposition party, FDC.

The party is expected to make an official announcement on Tuesday at its headquarters in Najjanankumbi off Entebbe Road.

These politicians remain tight-lipped on the matter.

Ssewanyana represents Makindye Division West while Kasibante is the MP Rubaga Division North.

Reports that the trio will tomorrow appear at the party’s head offices have sparked speculation that Lukwago will carry the FDC flag in the 2021 presidential elections.

Dr Kizza Besigye, who has since 2001 represented FDC in various presidential polls, remains evasive on whether he will take on President Museveni in the forthcoming elections.

Besigye, according to insiders, wants to throw his weight behind a candidate elected by the party.

But some top FDC shots want Besigye to try again.

FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda dismissed reports of Lukwago leading the party in the 2021 presidential race.

“The nominations will take place on August 3rd and 4th and it’s the National delegates Conference to decide (on presidential flag-bearer),” Ssemujju told ChimpReports on Monday evening.

Nevertheless, the decision of the three MPs to join FDC will reenergize its base after losing several top shots to NRM and Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).

Some of the senior members who have left FDC in the last few years include Mugisha Muntu, Alice Alaso, Paul Mwiru and Beatrice Anywar among others.

While the desertions have painted a picture of crumbling party, FDC remains hugely popular in Buganda region and other parts of the country.

Officials in FDC tell ChimpReports that Besigye believes Museveni can only be removed in a revolution which can possibly take place in Kampala where poverty levels, youth unemployment and economic uncertainty has increased in the last few years.

Besigye has previously led demonstrations in Kampala to rally the people to unseat Museveni only for his plans to be nipped in the bud by security forces.

“We are refocusing the frontline,” said a senior FDC official who preferred anonymity to speak freely.

“FDC will have a candidate, who I don’t know yet, but it will not be Besigye,” he added.

By strengthening his Kampala base with a powerful Mayor and more vibrant MPs who have previously confronted security forces in street battles, Besigye could be focusing on cultivating a ground for a revolution against Museveni.

“It doesn’t make sense to accompany Museveni in another sham election. Besigye has been using elections to mobilize and sensitise masses on the need to remove Museveni from power. We all know you can’t get Museveni out of State House by ballot,” said a source.

Speaking today on NBS TV, Besigye said the party is not about to end because it still has a big fan base on which to build leaders.

Asked whether he would contest for President in 2021, Besigye observed: “I am fighting this mindset of people thinking the issue right now is me standing for office. The issue is how we get out of captivity and not focus on whether I will stand for office.”

Sheebah Karungi’s social media posts recently took her fans by storm when she posted pictures of herself in a wedding gown alongside dancers Cathy Patra and NTV’s Etania in what looked like bridesmaids’ dresses.

The Parliamentary Scorecard has been released. This assesses MPs on their attendance of plenary and Committee sessions as well as their performance in constituencies.

Hon Ocan Betty who is the leader of opposition was the most outstanding female MP (scoring 95%) together with Hon Achieng Sarah Opendi, Hon Nakiwala Florence, Hon Betty Nambooze and Hon Adeke Anna.

Hon David Bahati was the best performing MP with 99.34% whereas Hon Okello Oryem was the worst performing MP. Others in the worst category include Hon Sam Kuteesa, Kibaaju Naome, Kamukama Nuwe Molly and Judith Babirye. They each scored 0.2%.

FURTHER DETAILS ON COVID DEATH.

The deceased was initially admitted to Wasungui HC II on Wednesday, 15th July, 2020 and treated for severe pneumonia. However, on Monday, 20th July, 2020, she was transferred to Joy Hospice health facility, in Mbale District, where she was isolated in the female ward.

While in isolation, the patient’s condition deteriorated with difficulty in breathing, cough, chills and headache. Unfortunately, she passed on on Tuesday 21st July, 2020 at 2:00am. May her soul rest in eternal peace. She was buried on 23rd July 2020 as per Safe Dignified Burial procedures.

The postmortem samples from the deceased were confirmed positive for SARS-COV-2 by 4 laboratories: UVRI, CPHL, Tororo and Makerere. In addition, findings at postmortem showed features of acute pneumonia; findings that are consistent with COVID-19 infection.

A policeman, Maxwell Kizza was beaten and his head cracked at the Northern Bypass when he attempted to evacuate taxi drivers from their stage at the Northern Bypass, Lubigi.
The drivers were angry because according to them, they were being chased from their stage which is in Kampala district by people from Nansana which they believed was wrong.
