📷: People look out at cars sitting in floodwaters after heavy rains hit the city of Zhengzhou in China's central Henan province, Wednesday, July 21.

👉 At least 25 people are dead in China’s central Henan province after massive floods triggered by several days of heavy rains. Weather forecasters are predicting three more days of rain for the region.

The rains washed out streets throughout the provincial capital, Zhengzhou, forcing stranded motorists to wade through waist-deep waters that submerged cars and sent many floating away.

The floods also washed out the city's subway system, with riders posting videos on social media awaiting rescue in waist-high muddy waters. A passenger named Xiaopei posted on Weibo that “the water in the carriage has reached (their) chest.”

Twelve people died and more than 500 were rescued after a subway tunnel flooded, state media reported.

Dozens of reservoirs and dams have reached critical levels, with local authorities warning that the Yihetan dam in the nearby city of Luoyang had sustained a 20-meter breach and was on the verge of imminent collapse.

Authorities have evacuated 100,000 residents to safe zones.

Henan province, home to about 94 million people, has experienced severe rains through the past week. Forecasters say Zhengzhou received as much rainfall in three days as it normally gets in a year. (AFP/AP/Reuters/VOA)

An investigation is underway in Cameroon into the disappearance of around $335 million in COVID relief funds and equipment. At least seven government ministers have so far been called to answer before an auditing panel over the matter. The funds that had been allocated to ministries went missing along with the personal protective equipment donated to Cameroon by the Chinese mega-investor Jack Ma to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Not everyone in Cameroon trusts the investigation that was ordered by President Paul Biya.
Would you trust a process initiated by the head of a government where ministers are suspected of corruption?

A South African woman has given birth to 10 babies, breaking the Guinness World Record held by Malian Halima Cissé, who gave birth to nine children in Morocco last month. Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, gave birth to her decuplets – two more than doctors had earlier detected during the medical scans – at a hospital in Pretoria last night. Sithole, who has six-year-old twins, said that her pregnancy was natural and wasn't on fertility treatment. What message do you have for Sithole and her husband, Teboho Tsotetsi?
