I always wonder how some people do it—starting over after failing at something that means the whole world to them. I know for sure that it'll break me. I know I'll never be the same. But then, maybe they did break. Maybe they're now in pieces and not the same person. Maybe they're just after something that fuels their existence, their hopes and dreams, so the fire keeps on burning no matter how cruel and cold everything around them becomes.

I hope to find that for myself. To set my eyes on something that will make everything else a blur, to keep on wanting to start over no matter how deep the cuts get, knowing that it'll be worth it in the end.

In 2013, a Kenyan lawyer Dola Indidis sued the State of Israel, and Italy in the International Court of Justice ( ICJ) in the Hague over Jesus' death

Indidis named the states of Italy and Israel in the lawsuit because, upon the attainment of independence, the two states incorporated the laws of the Roman Empire, those in force at the time of the crucifixion.

He is challenging the mode of questioning used during Jesus’s trial, prosecution, hearing, and sentencing; the form of punishment meted out to him while undergoing judicial proceedings, and the substance of the information used to convict him.

The case was first filed in the High Court in Nairobi but was rejected. Indidis then applied to have it heard at the ICJ.

Indidis says he wants to establish what crime Jesus was charged with and prays that the court decides “that the proceedings before the Roman courts were a nullity in law, for they did not conform to the rule of law at the material time and any time thereafter.”

"Hey," she called beside me, not looking. Her eyes were set on the waves of the sea, as if counting the number of times they hit the white sand.

"If you can go back in time and get the chance to talk to your younger self, will you spoil him of the future?" She asked, tone serious. "Will you tell him he won't become a pilot?"

Immediately, I curled my eyebrows in confusion. But when moments passed and she still remained silent, I figured she really was serious, so I answered honestly.

"No. I won't tell him that."

"But why?" She asked, sounding confused. Then I saw from my periphery that she turned to look at me. "He'll only get disappointed. Aren't you disappointed?"

Her words made me look at her, but in her eyes was only genuine curiosity. I knew she didn't mean to offend or even mock me, so I smiled at her a little before answering.

"No, I'm not disappointed, and I want you to remember that," I rolled my eyes, to which she giggled. Then I continued, "You see, I've had so many dreams since I was little. A lot of them I had to give up because they just wouldn't work no matter what, and I learned that time wouldn't wait for anyone. Some were simply forgotten because life became life. You know, reality hit—I'm not special. I can't be who I want to be simply because I wished it to the stars," then, I closed my eyes and just felt the cool wind blow against my skin. "But I can tell you that they were all real. Every little thing, every grand, and simple dream—they were real and a big part of all the decisions I made in life that brought me here. So, no, I won't take that away from him. I'll let him make all the same mistakes, all the bad decisions I made, knowing I'll end up in this very same spot where my heart is happy."

I opened my eyes and saw her watching the sea again, only this time, a faint smile lingered on her lips. She didn't say anything afterward. She didn't need to. She just held my hand and we remained like that for a little while, hoping that somehow

Along the way of growing, we will realize that life is not the same for everyone and that there are red lines that separate the privileged and the underprivileged.

But that is not how one must perceive it; it must serve as an ignition that fuels our desire to change the life we are living. It must push us to expand our limits, which will open limitless opportunities to have and live our dream—a life of the privileged.

In this life, we are planted in places we don't wish to be, most especially those like me who grow with rights but fail to exercise them due to responsibilities placed on my shoulders that have no option but to carry them.

As I have seen and experienced life at its worst, now I set my vision to aim to live the best in this life, so I strive harder and work wiser to build an empire of my own where everyone dearest to my heart is with me celebrating my winnings.

We may not have control over how we begin our journey in this life, but knowing how we want to end it is, I think, a power that everyone must believe in and exercise. Something that differentiates people from one another.
