ABOUT THE JIGGERS IN BUREMBA SUBCOUNTY
Social media is currently awash with the most disturbing news of jigger infestation in our young district of Kazo and particularly in Buremba Subcounty. So ashaming!!
When the news broke out two days back on TV West and Kazo FM, social media picked it with interest asking how a district that voted 99% NRM in the recent elections but most of all how President Museveni's immediate neighbours could suffer from such backward diseases. Ofcourse this is a disease that knows no political colour or religion, but in my view I think it could have been controlled if we had good and proactive leaders. Whereas jiggers is entirely a hygiene disease which is mostly due to laxity of the victims but the leaders are also partly to blame on the part of problem identification.
First of all, yesterday I saw our LC5 Chairman and his political team visiting the families and washing the feet of the victims on camera. This reactivate form of leadership is what is causing us problems. Because the work of politicians is not to treat people of their ailments for media coverage, but to ensure that government programs are thoroughly supervised and the district health teams are well equipped and empowered to monitor and identify such health calamities in the district.
Kazo is a small area for the leaders to start relying on media for them to identify problems in the district. But the problem is that we have district leaders who spend alot of time on bickering and infighting, most especially the Chairman and some of his councillors. We have a district leadership that have alot of time to apologise to a General on behalf of their Councillor who said whatever he said outside Council premises.
In conclusion therefore, I take this opportunity to request the district leadership to unite and serve the people of Kazo to avoid being caught off guard next time or else we shall mobilise the people to overhaul the entire system after the 5 years or even before if it necessitates.
I thank you,
Hon. Twesigye Wycliffe aka Omwijukuru - The hope for Kazo
