Congratulations: Bishop Wilson Kisekka enthroned as Bishop of Luwero Diocese

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda The Most Rev Dr. Stephen Kaziimba led the enthronement, assisted by several Bishops who graced the function at St. Mark's Cathedral, in Luwero town.

Bishop Wilson Kisekka has been enthroned as the fourth Bishop of Luwero with a call for peace and unity to prevail again in the Diocese

In his speech delivered by works and transport minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, President Yoweri Museveni called for unity amongst the Christians in Luwero.

This was followed by the Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga's message, read by the speaker of Buganda’s Lukiiko, Patrick Mugumbule who thanked Archbishop Kaziimba for containing the turbulence that characterised the diocese almost nine months ago over the election of a new bishop.

"Many things have happened in Luwero Diocese since the retirement of Bishop Eridadi Nsubuga but we thank God that the Archbishop found the remedy of containing them. I pledge a good working environment so that we can all serve the populace well," the Katikkiro's message read.

Upon Nsubuga’s retirement, Canon Godfrey Kasana was elected new bishop but that was later nullified on June 28, 2023, on allegations of infidelity.

Since then, the provincial church has been battling with a section of Christians who took the church to court on several occasions until March 6, 2024, when Bishop Kisekka (then canon) was elected by the House of Bishops.

In his speech, he pledged to work with everyone to develop the diocese by prioritising mission and evangelism, discipleship, protection of the environment, institutional and infrastructural development, promotion of health services amongst the clergy and laity, strengthening and support of family life, proper handling of church land, and education promotion among others
