Officials from the National Drug Authority [NDA] shut down 149 illegal drug outlets in eastern Uganda, seizing millions of shillings worth of drugs.

Local businesses near Kansanga, Kabalagala, Bunga, Buziga, and Munyonyo are facing losses due to heightened security measures during the arrival of foreign delegates for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77 plus China summits. Some boda boda riders, taxi operators, shop owners, and hawkers report a decline in transactions, attributing it to the intimidating security presence intended to ensure delegate safety.

"The Territorial police in Ssezibwa region and Njeru division, carried out an intelligence led operation and arrested 14 gang members, actively involved in muggings, knife-point attacks and robberies, smash and grab attacks. The raids were carried out in their various hide outs behind Hared Petrol Station, Wampala zone, Njeru West ward, Njeru central and municipality, Nile Lower Nara zone. The suspects were found in possession of knives, breaking implements and Ma*****na.
