"We are happy that people can now sue police officers who assault them at an individual level," Lawyer Steven Kalali representing two court process servers attached to Iganga High Court who were illegally detained by the OC CID of Namutumba police station, Stella Nakunda. The Chief Magistrate at Iganga, Mr Daniel Kiboko Epobu Court has ordered Nakunda to compensate Mr Michael Kaluusi and Mr Richard Mwesigwa with Shs40 million for illegal detention as they executed their duties. Savior Guma, a student at Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology (UICT), has been arrested in Kampala after he recorded a video for social media platforms like TikTok, claiming he could alter stolen phones' serial numbers. Guma was arrested alongside the person who filmed the video. Police aim to use this case as a deterrent against social media misuse. WATCH: Police have arrested a 19-year-old student of Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Savior Guma after he was filmed boasting that he uses his IT skills to hack into stolen phones and other devices to change serial numbers to evade tracking at a fee. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango told journalists that the suspect and his alleged accomplice confessed to recording the video but claimed it was only meant to generate views and likes on social media.
