GRATEFUL TO GOD! BBC’s Alan Kasujja Speaks Out a Year After Undergoing Open Heart Surgery.

BBC presenter Alan Kasujja has showered God, his friends and family for helping him go through a life-saving surgery.

Last year, Kasujja, the lead presenter of BBC News Day underwent open heart surgery, which is basically an procedure where the chest is cut open and an operation performed on the muscles, valves or arteries.

Kasujja say it has been “a year of deep reflection and a lot of gratitude” and that “the scars remind me of my resilience and fortitude. Scars of victory!”

“And if I can survive this, YOU can survive ANYthing! I’m grateful to God for this testimony!” he said in a Twitter thread.

He then thanked the following people for helping him in different ways:

I’m forever grateful to Mr Christopher Young- the best heart surgeon in London- and his team at Guy’s and St Thomas’.

Also my very attentive cardiologist Dr Yaso Emmanuel. Angela- the Zambian nurse who led a caring ICU team and the amazing staff on Doulton Ward.

For those who stood in the gap for me with fervent prayers and supplications- Pastor Gideon Nash of South Street Baptist Church, Edisa, Sasha, Aboluganda, Muscles Mens Fellowship, Susan Nsibirwa… those that I don’t know.. Thank You!

Finally, grateful my family for taking care of me at my time of most need.. and covenant brothers Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Cedric Babu Ndilima and Ted Kwaka for creating spaces that allowed me to be vulnerable especially before my operation.

WHY, GOD WHY???
One day, a man decided to travel by ship with his friends. While in the middle of their journey, the boat began to sink. Everyone tried to escape by swimming but it was all in vain. All drowned except this man who succeeded in clinging to a floating object. With the effect of strong winds, the object took him very far, to a small island where there were no men or animals, just a few insects. With the sweat of his brow, he managed to build a small box entirely made of straw. He stayed there for several days eating fruits and began to get used to his new life of suffering (even if we do not get used to it). He eventually began to lose all hope of seeing his family again any day.
Every night he lit a fire in front of his house to warm himself. One evening, as usual, he lit the fire. He stayed there for a long time until he dozed off. Late in the night, he was awakened by an overwhelming heat: It was his straw hut that caught fire. He cried, accusing and blaming God, shouting, "Oh God, what have I done to you to hurt me so? You separated me from my family to bring me to this deserted island, then you killed all my friends and now you let my hut burn. Why are you so hard on me? It is better to die because I am tired of living in this suffering!"
But at dawn, he saw a small boat coming towards him. When the boat landed, he ran straight for the captain and said to him in astonishment, "Captain, how did you get here?" No boat can get there unless he gets lost. " The captain replied, "In the night we saw a fire and we thought it was a burning boat, and we did not arrive immediately because the journey was long. We thought that you used the fire in order for us to find you. "The man cried, fell on his knees and asked God for forgiveness, and he got into the boat and went home and reunited with his family.

LESSON: God has many ways of solving our problems. You can lose a job and think that God has left you when He wants to give you a better job. Your friends can leave you, do not believe that the LORD has rejected you, He wants to keep you away from bad companies. Do not curse your God even if you suffer, keep faith and hope, He will act.

*Student killed in Kanungu distilling waragi to raise school fees.*

The Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances under which a 20-year-old man died suddenly and two others were seriously injured during an alcohol distilling exercise.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate identified the deceased as Emmanuel Akankunda, an S.3 student of Nyakinoni Secondary School in Nyakinoni sub-county, Kanungu District.

The injured victims were named as 53-year-old Flavia Bikorwomuhangi, mother to the deceased and 16-year-old son only identified as Tukasingura.

Maate told journalists that the incident allegedly took place on Wednesday afternoon at Hakibungo cell in Western Ward, Nyamirama Town Council in Kanungu district.

The three family members were distilling local brew (waragi) at Ahamulindi stream, and all of a sudden the brewing drum burst, blew off the top cover and crude waragi burnt Emmanuel to death by shattering his head into pieces before seriously injuring two others.

Maate said that when the Police were notified, the scene was visited by the Police Officer in charge Nyamirama together with a team who documented the scene of crime, took the body to Nyamirama Health Centre IV mortuary for postmortem examination and the two victims are receiving treatment at the same medical facility.

Maate told journalists that a case of sudden death was registered at Kanungu Central Police Station under reference number CRB 249/2022 to help in the Police investigation.

*72 die in road accidents during Easter week.*

*April 19, 2022*

According to the figures released by Traffic Police spokesperson Faridah Nampiima, Uganda recorded 72 deaths on its roads during the Easter week.

While addressing journalists at police headquarters, Nampiima said that a total of 342 accidents occurred during the Easter period, and of these, 64 were fatal, 167 were serious, and 111 were minor.

“There were 309 accident victims during this period, and of these, 72 people died and 237 sustained injuries,” Nampiima said.

Nampiima further revealed that a total of 9,278 traffic offenders were arrested and issued with EPS tickets for various traffic offences at various checkpoints in the whole country from 10th to 18th April 2022.

“Among these are reckless driving, 1,868, DMCs, 1,869, invalid driving license 820, speeding, 343, not wearing seat belts, 751, riding m/c without wearing a crash helmet, 520, carrying more than one passenger on the motorcycle, 142, among others,” she said.

*Kampala-Masaka Highway accident claims 4 lives on Easter Sunday.*

Four people have been confirmed dead in an accident at Wamatovu, Katende in Mpigi district , along the Masaka- Kampala highway.

The accident according to traffic Police occurred on Sunday evening 17th April 2022 which was an Easter Sunday.

ASP Faridah Nampiima the traffic Police Spokesperson told the press that the accident involved motorvehicle registration number UBB 288W a Fuso box body, a motorcycle registration number UDG 002S Bajaj Boxer and Toyota Premio Registration number UAV 137E.

The deceased whose identities had not been established by press time according to Nampiima include a female adult, one female juvenile and two male adults including the rider. Three unknown victims were rushed to various unknown clinics for medical attention.

The traffic Police spokesperson reveals that Investigations are underway to establish what could have caused the accident. The vehicles involved in the accident have been towed and parked at Mpigi Police station.

ASP Nampiima appeals to all drivers and road users traveling from upcountry back from the Easter Holidays to drive with discipline if no more lives are to be lost in the road.

Maureen Nantume and her husband Ronnie Muganza have welcomed their second bundle of joy on the singer’s birthday. Nantume who was born on 18th April 1984 to Robinah Nakitende celebrates 38 years today.

Through her social media pages, Maureen who kept her pregnancy private for nine months has today morning revealed the good news to her fans and followers.

“MAAMA AGAIN….. DEAR LORD THANK YOU. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMO,” Maureen Nantume posted.

We have been told both mother and child are doing great. However, the couple are yet to reveal the name of the baby to the public.

The newborn counts the third for Nantume after her daughter Whitney and Cecille.

Maureen and baby daddy Ronnie have been together since 2015, she introduced Ronnie at her father’s home in Bukanaga village in Mityana district on April 17, 2015.

*Rukungiri student knocked dead on Easter, two others hospitalized ill.*

The police in Rukungiri district have initiated investigations to ascertain the cause of the hit and run accident that left one person dead and two hospitalized in critical conditions.

The deceased according to SP Musa Tibakirana, the Rukungiri District Police Commander is Ian Gumoshabe 20 years, a student of Kagunga Seed Secondary School and a resident of Rwakabengo A, Rwakabengo parish, Southern division in Rukungiri Municipality.

SP Tibakirana revealed that the hit and run fatal road accident involved a motorvehicle registration number UAA 920Y Toyota land cruiser yellow in colour and motorcycle registration number UFL 071 Y Bajaj boxer.

The accident occured on 17th April 2022 at about 6:50pm at Kihunga Nyamayenje village along Rukungiri-Ntungamo road.

The DPC stressed that the driver of the land cruiser knocked the motorcyclist from behind and injured the two passengers and the ride.

He further noted that one passenger (now the deceased) died after a short admission at Nyakibale hospital, the rider and another passenger are still admitted at the same medical facility in a serious condition.

SP Musa Tibakirana narrates that the front number plate of the vehicle which caused the accident dropped down and the driver did not stop.

The deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo health centre III morturty pending postmortem examination.

He (Tibakirana) said that the motorcycle involved is now parked at Rukungiri police yard pending iov inspection.

The case has since been recorded at Rukungiri CPS on file number TAR 40/2021 and inquiries are at hand.

*Museveni appoints Asiimwe and Byansi as new Deputy Directors of Public Prosecutions.*

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday appointed Asiimwe John Baptist and Byansi George William as Deputy Directors of Public Prosecutions.

Asiimwe and Byansi are long-serving career prosecutors with over 20 years of work experience in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

Prior to the new appointment, Mr Asiimwe has been a Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions heading the Department of International Cooperation, while Mr Byansi has been the substantive Head of Department of Field Operations and the Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Management Support Services.

The structure of the ODPP provides for four directorates, two of which fell vacant upon the appointment of Mr Wagona Vincent and Ms Komuhangi Alice Khaukha by His Excellency the President as Judges of the High Court.

The two appointees will head the Directorate of Management Support Services which is responsible for coordinating and managing administrative, logistical and other support services essential for the operations of the institution, and the Directorate of Inspections, Quality Assurance, Research and Training which is responsible for enforcement of performance standards, measures, systems and practices to promote efficient and effective management of public prosecutions and fair administration of justice.

Additionally, Mr Odiit Andrew, Ms Nabaasa Carolyn Hope and Mr Mulindwa Badru have been elevated from the rank of Senior Assistant DPP to the rank of Principal Assistant DPP.

*DP’s Norbert Mao laughs at censured Zaake.*

Democratic Party leader Norbert Mao has traded barbs with Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake following the latter’s impeachment as parliament commissioner.

A committee had been investigating Zaake for two weeks over his alleged abusive tweets, targeting the deputy Speaker, Anita Among, as an individual and as a presiding officer.

A total of 155 MPs voted to remove Mityana Municipality MP yesterday, Thursday.

Following his censure, DP’s Norbert Mao took to Twitter to rub salt in Zaake’s wounds.

“I hate to say it but pride goes before a fall.Bagobye emome! Stick to insulting Norbert Mao.Nze nsiiwa naye oli abalagala…”

In response, Zaake, who alluded to Mao as being a pumpkin (yellow inside and green outside, if you get the drift), said Mao was too old to be clamouring for attention.

“Noted, comrade pumpkin. Although I want to believe you’re too old to be clamouring for attention from your grandchildren,” he wrote.

Many who weighed in on the argument suggested that Mao was struggling with the shift of punching holes in the National Unity Platform (NUP) party and the shift is steam rolling him into irrelevance.

“The strategy of insulting to become relevant is interesting. I had never thought I would see such a Nobert Mao. Let us enjoy the comedy,” a one Sayekwo wrote.

Early this week, the Democratic Party president came out and asked NUP leader Kyagulanyi Ssentamu to talk to his supporters and stop them from insulting people.

Mao, who says he is ‘cleaning the opposition’, noted that everyone is free to express his or her opinion.

“I would have expected Hon. Kyagulanyi to tell his supporters not to insult people. Everybody has their rights,” he said.

According to Mao, most of the opposition leaders in the country behave like Pontius Pilate.

“I am willing to meet NUP leaders, including Hon. Kyagulanyi, but they don’t want to talk. They want to destroy Mao,” he added.

*Four Soldiers Killed In Operation Shujja.*

Four members of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF have died since November 2021 when the forces together with their Congolese counterparts raided camps of Allied Democratic Front rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo –DRC.

The operation commander Maj. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga says that one soldier was killed in crossfire with the rebels during the first phase of the operation, while the other three died due to individual errors, and as a result of rough terrain in the jungle.

He added that when the ADF group was ousted out of the Virunga Forest in phase one of the operation, they fleed into two directions; south towards Rwenzori mountains and north of Kainama-Tchabi and Boga into Ituri province. But the group has since scattered into smaller groups as a tactic to overstretch the forces.

Gen. Muhanga said that despite the losses, the army has made tremendous gains since November dislodging the ADF from their strong camps in Virunga forest and this has seen reduced killing of the innocent people in those areas.

He said that the major aim of the operation is not limited to pushing ADF out of Eastern DRC but ultimately to neutralise them.

“The challenge is whenever we are approaching their locations; they run away for fear of our superior firepower, the enemy is so inferior that he cannot stand and fight,” he added.

However, Muhanga says they are getting overstretched because they have to provide a protection force to the civilians who are getting back to their formally abandoned homes.

He says that there could be a need for more force on both sides of Uganda and the DRC to deal with any deployment gaps. “Our counterparts need to train LDUs to form zonal protection forces such that when the joint forces are hunting the enemy, the LDUs are protecting the civilians.

*Kamwenge: Police Officer shoots 3 people dead over bar maid lover*

Three people have died on spot in Kamwenge district after being shot at by a police officer following a bar fight over a maid.

The deceased have been identified as

Richard Tuhaise,28,Friday Innocent, 38,and Sam Baseka Sam, 18.

Preliminary investigations indicate that police officer number 68371 PC Nuwagaba had a misunderstanding with the deceased over a bar attendant whom the three were in love with.

It’s at that point the three ( the two deceased and police officer) separated ways and the police man came back with the gun UG POL 565903521-31923 and shot instantly at three people before running away.

Diana Namutanzi, the District Police commander for Kamwenge District says that the suspect has been a calm person but doesn’t know what really happened to prompt him to shoot.

According to Namutanzi, the suspect has been arrested in Kyenjojo District to face charges of murder, and a gun with 40 rounds of ammunition has been recovered.

This case has been registered at Kamwenge Police station under file number Kamwenge CRB 123/2022.

*Muhoozi Kainerugaba: I Was Born a Refugee; I’ve Never Thought of Myself as a First Son*

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba says he has never thought of himself as a first son.

Kainerugaba is Museveni’s only known son.

At the rank of lieutenant general, Kainerugaba is the commander of land forces in the Ugandan army, the UPDF.

In a recent interview, veteran journalist Arinaitwe Rugyendo asked Lt Gen Kainerugaba why he had risked his life as a soldier in the Ugandan army yet as first son, he had “so many privileges and opportunities.”

Kainerugaba said he was born a refugee, a status that made him aggressive. And as such, he continued, he had never thought of himself as a first son.

“I have never, ever thought of myself as ‘First son’. I was born a refugee and lived for most of my formative life as a refugee. Boys used to beat me up in Kenya and then later in Sweden, calling me a refugee or Empuungyi (Runyankore for 'refugee')!” said Museveni’s son.

“I guess that taught me as a young boy to be aggressive! I became very aggressive from those beatings. And I am not someone who will just sit there, fold my arms and do nothing about a crisis especially of an armed nature. I must move in together with my fellow combatants and solve it.”

In the same interview, Lt Gen Kainerugaba also revealed how he almost died during a military drill.

*I Want to Die – Makerere University Student Injured by Teargas Canister Cries Out*

Ssebuganda Richard, a Makerere University Bio-Medical student, who lost part of his right hand (fingers) to a teargas canister explosion during the ‘open for all’ protest says he now wishes for nothing but death.

Richard penned down a tear-dropping WhatsApp status, expressing his depression with life, requesting for no more well wishes but death. He says the endless surgeries are burdensome. Besides, he is undergoing a lot of depression and pain thus can’t stomach it anymore.

“I have done four surgeries in four weeks. None is less than five hours. Truly life is hardened.

Maybe a death wish is kinda good. Pain, phycological torture, and depression is what I deserved.” His status reads.

Richard Ssebuganda alias Sir Ssebzo had his right hand amputated following an injury he sustained during the open for all strike as he tried to dispose off a teargas canister that is said to have been accidentally shot in his room in an attempt to extinguish the student protest.

Makerere University students led by the 87th Guild President Shamim Nambassa held a short-lived protest on 7th February 2022 demanding for full reopening of the institution following failed attempts to peacefully convince VC Nawangwe to support their cause. It’s during this protest that the bad became worse for Ssebuganda Richard.

Since then, the University Management promised to foot Richard’s hospital bills. However, it’s clear that no kind of medication will bring back his old self as he has began to wish for death.

*Celebrated Western Uganda Radio Presenter Ssalongo dies*

Sad news coming in indicates that Joel Tumusiime Ssalongo an employee with Radio Kinkiizi has passed on.

The deceased who worked with Peak and Freedom radio stations all in Kabale District passed on this morning.

According to Kinkiizi FM station manager Chris Kareju, the deceased worked normally on Monday until the evening of the same day when he developed continuous blood vomiting.

“We gave him some first aid and he went home until this morning when we got information that vomiting had continue. We rushed him to the clinic where he passed on minutes later.

This reporter has been able to establish that Twinomugisha’s family confirmed having a trait of related illness attributed to liver problem.

The station manager however told this reporter that they were by press time going for a postmortem analysis before they transport his body to his ancestral home in Kabale District for burial.

*Uganda-Rwanda ties: Gen Muhoozi, Kagame set to meet again*

The commander of land forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi has revealed his plans to return to Kigali to meet Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame.

Muhoozi who didn’t delve into details said he had a discussion with Kagame on Monday morning, where the two agreed to meet in Rwanda’s capital Kigali, in the coming days.

Muhoozi who is also the First son, added that the aim of the planned meeting is to solve all the prevailing issues between Rwanda and Uganda.

“After a long discussion with my uncle, President Kagame, this morning we have agreed that I return to Kigali in the coming days to sort out all outstanding issues between Uganda and Rwanda,” Muhoozi said on Monday.

This will be Muhoozi’s second visit to Rwanda this year after the one on January 22, 2022, during which him and Kagame pledged to restore diplomatic ties between the two neighbouring countries.

The first meeting marked the reopening the Gatuna border with Uganda which had been closed for three years over peddling accusations.

The border was eventually reopened on January 31, after succeesful talks between Muhoozi and Kagame.

Early this month, Kagame applauded the reopening of the Gatuna border and maintained that efforts to improve relations with Uganda were on a good path.

“The border has been opened. Uganda has been taking steps to resolve the issues that led to the border being closed. We are following it up closely, we are discussing it with them and I believe we are on a good path,” Kagame said.
