HBO has just finished the first season of the docuseries The Vow, which chronicled the experiences of some of the longtime high-ranking members of the NXIVM cult, who were some of the first to leave. The handful of ex-members who told their stories were friends and spouses who had slowly become disenchanted with the organization as red flags came into view, namely the branding of a handful of women members and the s*x trafficking which came to light later on.

The first season was fascinating, and similar to season one of the podcast Uncover: Escaping NXIVM, so I believed it would follow suit and only be a limited doc with one season. But HBO has revealed that the docuseries will be back for a second season. The first season had interviews with actress Catherine Oxenberg, who was desperately trying to get her daughter India to leave the organization after finding out what was happening from those who were leaving. The second season will see India outside of the cult, and she will talk for the first time about her experience.

I’m glad to see the show come back. It will be interesting to hear more accounts from within the cult, and hear the successes of the victims who were able to leave. Check out Season 1 of the series now on HBO, and let us know if you’re excited for Season 2.

Legendary Pictures has shared a piece of poster art for its upcoming reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massare. The studio has also launched a new website for the film, which is being helmed by David Blue Garcia (Tejano) and written by Chris Thomas Devlin.

The caption on the new poster reads: “In 1974, the world witnessed one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history. In 2021, the face of madness returns.”

This new movie “returns to the roots of the Hooper and Kim Henkel creation that was considered one of the scariest films of its era, even though most of the splatter was implied and not shown.” It’s explained that this sequel picks up where Tobe Hooper’s classic 1974 film left off.

I’m curious to see how this turns out, but I’ve got low expectations. Normally these reboots of classic horror films don’t turn out so well.

The original movie followed two siblings, and three of their friends en route to visit their grandfather’s grave in Texas. On their journey, they end up falling victim to a family of cannibalistic psychopaths and must survive the terrors of Leatherface and his family.

Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez is producing the film. What are your thoughts on this film? Do you think it’ll be good? Is it something you’re even interested in watching?

20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for an upcoming supernatural horror film The Empty Man, which is an adaptation of Boom! Studios’ popular graphic novel series. The story revolves around a sinister urban legend entity that may be behind the disappearance of a group of teens. It looks like it might end up being a decent creepy movie worth watching.

The film stars James Badge Dale (The Departed), Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), Stephen Root (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Get Out), Ron Canada (Star Trek), Robert Aramayo (Game of Thrones), Joel Courtney (Kissing Booth) and Sasha Frolov (Little Women).

The synopsis reads:

After a group of teens from a small Midwestern town begin to mysteriously disappear, the locals believe it is the work of an urban legend known as The Empty Man. As a retired cop investigates and struggles to make sense of the stories, he discovers a secretive group and their attempts to summon a horrific, mystical entity, and soon his life—and the lives of those close to him—are in grave danger.

The film adaptation of Cullen Bunn’s graphic novel series is being directed by David Prior from a script that he wrote. The movie is expected to hit theaters on October 23, 2020.

Xochitl Gomez (The Baby-Sitters Club) is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she has been cast in director Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

She will join Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange along with Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor who will reprise their roles as Wong and Karl Mordo. Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, will also play a big role in the story. As we’ve previously reported, the events of WandaVision will lead into the events of the Doctor Strange sequel.

There are no details revealed on who Gomez will be playing and it’s hard to speculate on her role in the film, so we’ll eventually find out what they have planned for her.

Out of all the Marvel films that have been announced for the upcoming phase, this is the one that I’m most excited about. I can’t wait to see what Marvel and the creative team are planning for this, especially with and the fact that this movie is going to be a huge turning point in the MCU with it cracking open the multiverse.
