We often perceive war as dates, attacks and conquests. However, behind all this are the lives of thousands of people, which often become part of history forever. Many of them are civilians who are victims of the invading army.

The 21st century is no exception. The war crimes of the Russian army in Bucha are far from the only, but one of the clearest proofs of the atrocities of the Russian invasion.

New York Times journalists, having analyzed the footage of video cameras, photos of Ukrainian drones and phone calls of the occupiers, recreated the course of the crime that took place in a small town near Kyiv during the first days of the invasion.

After the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine had a nuclear potential capable of destroying the Earth several times in a row.
That was the third largest arsenal in the world after the United States and Russia.

The main argument often used to put pressure on Ukraine during the period of its nuclear disarmament was: "You do not allow humanity to reduce nuclear confrontation, and therefore to increase the level of world security".

On December 5, 1994, with the stroke of a pen, nuclear weapons were exchanged for the Budapest Memorandum – security guarantees for Ukraine from the world’s leading countries.

Was this decision right?

It is hard to say. But it was expensive, costing a war that has not ended since 2014.

Are there still people in the world willing to give up nuclear weapons after Putin's gamble?

John J. Mearsheimer
“The tragedy of great power politics”

This book offers a realist theory of international politics that challenges the prevailing optimism about relations among the great powers

Seeking the literature for coursework on international relations don`t miss this book! However, It will also come in handy if you are to understand the current politics better.

John Joseph Mearsheimer is an American political scientist and international relations scholar, who belongs to the realist school of thought.

What tools do great powers use to become a hegemon?

How to survive in an anarchic system?

Is a China-US war possible?

Mearsheimer represents a structural view of international relations where individual intentions hardly have an impact. All are based on the type of a system whether it is bipolar or multipolar and balanced or unbalanced. He analyzes the history of rivalry between great powers, different instruments of international politics, and the main theories of international relations.

Wanna understand the world better? Well, you know what to read then…

Any power generates its opposition. It would seem that after the brutal suppression of protests in Russia and the destruction of political opponents, the Kremlin has nothing to worry about, however, every failure at the front, every mistake leads to the fact that rumors of a schism in Moscow are only getting stronger.

Another Russian shelling of Kyiv has become the largest since spring. Missiles hit cultural sites and civilian buildings, and there are reports of hitting infrastructure. There is no doubt that this strike was a reaction to the explosion of the Crimean bridge - the structure connecting the occupied Ukrainian peninsula with Russia.
How will this change the situation at the front?
It will not.
Abundantly clear terror.
Terror, which has examples in history
Great Britain suffered from N**i ballistic missiles during the Second World War. However, it did not change the course of the war.
It will be the same now.
Rocket attacks, again... Irrational use of resources, politics based on emotions, or coordinated, strategic bombing, with Belarus aimed at pulling the attention away from Kherson? Nevertheless, right before the congressional elections, shelling intensified the "rally round the flag" effect in Western democracies (specifically in the United States), consolidating peoples of free nations in unity against Russian aggression.

Blind fury and killing of the innocent – reaction of the weak.
Stay strong!

Lukashenko came to power on a wave of change; he was young, ambitious, and goal-oriented. His unscrupulousness, pragmatism, and cynicism were effective, but each time they undermined his credibility, narrowing the window of opportunity for Belarus.

To understand the impossibility of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on the ground of dividing and ceeding the territories read the article by David Satter “Russia's real reasons for war with Ukraine”, published in the Washington Times.

The author analyzed the nature of Russian political regime, concluding that the aggression is the core of it. That is why a victory for Moscow will not lead to European stability, neither it could create the precedent for repeating the strategy of military intervention to achieve the imperialistic goal.

Why UnRealpolitik?

Term “Realpolitik” [ʁeˈaːlpoliˌtiːk] refers to policy which is based exclusively on state interest, despite any ethic or ideological values.

Originally, it was rational way to defend state’s interest.

However, now this term commonly used to justify aggressive actions in international relations.
Wars of conquest, invasions, occupation of territory all these are considered to be normal instruments for foreign policy.
Although, with the start of Russia-Ukraine war we see the price of this way in the contemporary world.

In the era of economic interdependence, common values and globalization there is no place for justifying aggressive wars even in dimension of defending interest. And to change the actions we should start with words.

The hot phase of Russo-Ukrainian war which has started on 24th of February leaves a lot of topics to discuss about, one of which is possible scenarios of its ending.

Perspectives of economic, informational and military continuation of war that exist nowadays were discussed in UnRealpolitik’s latest video: https://youtu.be/EEn8rh4ovyY

To dive deep into the topic, recommend you to read the article “Russia's War in Ukraine: How Does it End?" by the Council on Foreign Relations.

The speakers talked about the perspectives of the resolution of the military conflict from the political, economical and military point of view, furthermore, predicted the possible geopolitical position of Ukraine and Russia after the war.

Alina Polyakova said: “We’re also seeing a stalemate emerge between European consensus in unity and policies, especially when it comes to weapons and security assistance, and Russia’s ability to carry through this war for the foreseeable future, whether that’s in a slow manner and a kind of war of attrition with the Ukrainians, until that consensus starts to disintegrate.”
