The upper layers of the Sea of Marmara are heated "like water in a black case", which threatens the destruction of the ecosystem.
The upper layers of the Sea of Marmara are getting warmer due to global warming and pollution, which in the near future may lead to an environmental disaster. This was stated by hydrobiologist Mehmet Levent Artuz at the presentation of the Climate Crisis and the Sea, reports Hurriyet Daily News .
"When we talk about the climate crisis, we think only of the drought on the land, but also the temperature of the seas rise ... Pollution and the Sea of Marmara warming is twice the rate of global warming.", - he stressed scientist.
According to Artuz, the Sea of Marmara heats up "like water in a black case." Due to the rise in temperature in the upper layers, marine life is suffering.
"If this continues, we may lose the Marmara Sea", - warned hydrobiologist.
Recall that in June, the coastal surface of the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul was covered with brown phytoplankton slime . According to the authorities, the cause of this phenomenon was the long-term discharge of untreated sewage water, as well as global warming
