The Christmas holidays brought another escalation in the confrontation between the community and the developer in the Osokorky Ecopark. Using the memorandum signed earlier with the city authorities, the developer managed to win a number of key court cases. On December 10, 2021, the first Ukrainian Good Deeds Ball was held in Mezhyhirya National Park, a place that has become a symbol of the victory of civil society, during which the organisers presented volunteers and public figures with the Order of the Kind Heart. Their tragic stories are different, but they all have one thing in common – the Russian Federation’s occupying forces are not interested in keeping Ukrainians in their homes, in their cities and villages. These stories are evidence that the goal is not just to change the government in Kyiv. The goal was and remains to cleanse the territory of Ukrainians.

On August 18, 2023, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office informed the public about the suspicion announcement against the head of the Education Department of the Dniprovskiy District in Kyiv City State Administration for embezzlement of funds in the procurement of food processing equipment. These are the same 12 sets of vegetable slicers that were purchased in December 2022 by the Education Department under the guise of shelter needs for over 1.5 million UAH. ($41000)

Today Ukrainians celebrate the 1st anniversary of the liberation of Kherson from Russian occupation. The city was liberated mid of November 2022. Russian troops are still in front - on the opposite side of river Dnipro. Get shelled day by day by Russian forces is a sad normal for civilians remained in the city. I met Sascha last winter in Kherson. Like many others he got brutally tortured under Russian occupation. His torturer were beaten his legs with sticks until they hit deep in the flesh. Day by day they continued their crime. Close to death Sascha survived after an emergency operation in the local hospital. The medical team helped him to escape later. Until today it is hard for Sascha to walk. For all those, who do not understand why Ukrainians fight so hard: There is no democracy in Russian occupied territories in Ukraine. On the 22nd of May, 2023, the 8th “Forum Dobryh Sprav” (“Good Deeds Forum”) was held in Kyiv under the title “How to develop a strong public society. Charitable initiatives in practice“. For almost six years now, the owners of a private house at 34 Lomakivska Street (formerly Michurina Street) in Kyiv’s Pechersk district have been doing everything possible to regain ownership of their house, which was lost as a result of illegal actions by a group trying to take possession of other people’s property by forging documents and manipulating the real estate ownership register. The violation of the law was reported by the “Active Citizens” agency in the publication “The scheme of how a house in the center of Kyiv was seized and how they are trying to legalize the deal through the Kyiv City Council”.

On September 15th in Kyiv, the anniversary «Forum of Good Deeds» took place, gathering representatives of 240 volunteer organizations, leaders of non-governmental organizations, representatives from business, education, culture and the arts, and healthcare professionals. The forum was dedicated to volunteering, values, and the challenges faced by society due to the full-scale war. Its purpose was to generate new ideas for public initiatives to aid the front and people affected by military actions. According to the organizers – the Golda Meir Institute for the Development of Civil Society – they have achieved their goal.

In the first days of the war (early March 2022), all residents of a 5-storey residential building in Kalynivka, Makariv district, Kyiv region, lost their apartments and property. They were not guerrillas, they were not in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or territorial defense. It was just that their house was located behind the turn to the Zhytomyr highway, which led to Kyiv. The Ukrainian authorities told people to leave the area on March 6, when half of Kalynivka was already occupied. This way, they managed to prevent people from dying as a result of shelling of their homes.
