Computer-maker Minisforum has produced a tiny desktop gaming PC that features a processor linked to the PlayStation 5. Sony’s flagship console - known for its fast computing power - can handle complex graphical tasks such as ray tracing and 120 FPS gameplay without a stutter. However, to house all that power, the PlayStation 5 had to increase in bulk over previous generation PlayStations. The PS5 weighs almost 10 pounds. By comparison, the PS4 Pro came in at 7.7 pounds.

Gaming PCs have always competed with consoles, but as with the PS5, the larger the build, the more space for high-end graphics cards and thermal management. Nonetheless, some gamers prefer lower-profile PCs because they take up less room while also offering a more novel form factor. As Nintendo Switch owners might attest, going for smaller hardware can often mean trade-offs in raw power.

Industry experts warned that the introduction of Apple’s anti-tracking system called App Tracking Transparency would make a major splash, and a new study suggests that it indeed happened, with an ad-tech company estimating the revenue loss for social media giants to be around $9.85 billion. App Tracking Transparency was rolled out with iOS 14.5, and it forces an app to ask for users’ permission before tracking their activity across other apps and websites.

When the feature is enabled, users can choose between “Allow” and “Ask App Not to Track” when an app presents a prompt asking to track them. Facebook was one brand that publicly opposed the move and claimed that Apple wants to fill its own coffers under the pretext of privacy, while rivals see their ad revenues go on a downward spiral. Following the rollout of the aforementioned anti-tracking feature, a survey revealed that most users love the privacy-focused tool, which was not a good sign for advertisers seeking to track user activity and show them targeted ads.

macOS Monterey Is Bricking Old Macs For Some Users

One week after the release of macOS Monterey, it appears that the latest version of Apple’s operating system is bricking some older Mac devices with no official fix available yet. The release of macOS Monterey has had its fair share of troubles already. For example, there was a weird issue that hid the cursor and some menu bar items behind the notch, although Apple quickly released a workaround for that problem.

A few days later, multiple reports emerged of users noticing that, after installing macOS Monterey, connected USB hubs started malfunctioning. In some cases, only a few ports would be rendered useless, but for other users, the machines failed to read the hubs at all. However, the latest issue plaguing Mac users that have updated to macOS Monterey is a lot more serious.

Android 12 brings a ton of visual overhauls to Android handsets, and thanks to a bunch of new Google widgets rolling out now, it's about to look even better. The main draw to Android 12 is a new design language Google calls 'Material You.' It redesigns the UI to be rounded and more responsive, custom themes can change the entire interface at a moment's notice, and the whole goal is to make Android feel personal. It's a design language that's supposed to revolve around your personal taste/style — hence the Material You branding.

One component of Material You is a focus on redesigned widgets. Widgets on Android have been bad for a few years now. They have inconsistent designs, many developers don't support them, and they've long felt like an afterthought of the operating system. Google hopes Android 12 changes that. Not only does it have a new set of rules and guidelines for widgets, but it's also committed to setting an example with all-new widgets for its own apps.
