Pelargonium, or, as it is more commonly called, geranium, was not without reason a permanent inhabitant of our grandmothers' windowsills. This classic houseplant will not only delight the entire warm season with abundant flowering, but will also help protect against viruses and pathogenic bacteria. It is believed that geraniums with red flowers have maximum healing properties, but white, purple and pink varieties do just as well with the tasks of purifying indoor air. The substances that the plant secretes are so effective that they turn out to be detrimental to streptococci, staphylococci, influenza viruses and a variety of bacteria that cause acute respiratory infections.
