HOW THE GOVERNMENT CAN SOLVE THE CHALLENGE OF COOKING OIL IN TANZANIA

Tanzania has been experiencing a severe shortage of edible oil, in 2021 alone, edible oil in the city of Dar es Salaam, rose in price and reaching between Shs. 26,000 to 29,000 from the original price of 20,000.Dar es saalam one liter sold up to Shs. 5,000 different from the existing price of Shs.3500 before the product it has not gone up!.
According to the Prime Minister of Tanzania, Hon. Kasimu Majaliwa when he spoke in the Singida region on June 13, this year; the production of edible oil in the country is limited where only 290,000 tons are produced in the country, which is equivalent to 45% of the demand for edible oil which is 650,000 tons per year. With the Government importing about 400,000 tonnes to compensate for the shortage of edible oil and it costs more than Sh474 billion a year, according to current statistics!
