On election day, we were all sitting in front of our TV watching the numbers of our favorite candidates rise and get beaten, and rise again. The battle for the Taipei City mayor was so close watching the news was like watching a movie. Kimberly messaged me on Instagram, anxious, asking me how the country can be so divided, and what we can do to help our once-thriving nation, Taiwan.
I told her, “We need to remind the people of the pride of being Taiwanese.” When Linsanity happened in New York, the world watched as the small Asian guy from Taiwan created basketball miracles. That was a time when the Taiwanese people felt important and proud and thought more than just becoming wealthy. The world heard our name and we sat with our backs straight.
So what can be do now? Well, I told her, “We’re not in the NBA, but we can raise global awareness for this country.” Besides Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong, Taiwan is a travel destination that’s just as worth-it to visit. We’ll show them.
"Large, flat, bold, full of life and often forgotten. Taipei is a city that rarely comes up in any top 10 travel list. Usually seen as a not so Chinese island that sleeps in the shadow of its popular step brother Hong Kong. Taipei is almost always set aside as a boring food destination that has little else to offer." -A YouTube travel vlog
