On Saturday the St. Anns Cascade community gathered at the Presidents Ground to protest and converse after the ground was left in a deplorable state by unauthorized users.

The ground has been used for recreational activities over a period of time but due to recent events, the playing area has suffered significant damage.

The Kali Yatra Festival has begun and is the midst of celebrating its 10th anniversary. The ten day celebration will be enjoyed by devotees as Puja, dancing, singing, chanting and other forms of entertainment worshipping Mother Kali will take place.

This year's theme is 'The Peak of Kali' which refers to the highest and most intense manifestation of this goddess. Kali is believed to have different forms or levels of expression, ranging from her nurturing aspects to her most terrifying and destructive forms.

The funeral service for Rennie Ramnarine was held at The Sundar Popo Auditorium (SAPA) on Thursday 7th September,2023.

Family Pundit, Pt. Nityanand Sharma did a prayer for the viewing of the body after a private funeral service was held at Dass Funeral Home in Gasparillo. Thousands of friends, family, local entertainers and fans flooded SAPA to bid farewell to a legend in the music world, Rennie Ramnarine.

Local entertainer,Zaheer Khan popularly known as Big Rich gave a heartfelt speech as he remembered, honoured and bid farewell to his brother in the music industry. He ventured down memory lane and expressed Rennie's love and dedication to music and how family oriented he was.

He described how hard it was for Rennie to still do what he loves while battling his sickness. He went on to describe how supportive Rennie was for him after his dad passed away a few months prior.

Big Rich said he takes solace in knowing he was able to make one of the biggest wishes come true which was honouring Rennie when he was alive. He even got Rennie’s dad, Tole, who was known to be a quiet person to express verbally how proud he was of Rennie.The service continued as Big Rich played songs he did with Rennie highlighting his vocal and bass guitar skills accompanied by a video of Rennie which he dedicated to the Ramnarine family and his fans.

Former manager of Dil-E-Nadan and family friend, Haseeb Majeed shared his thoughts on watching Rennie grow with his brothers and grow in music.

Frontline man of Dil-E-Nadan and brother Raymond Ramnarine was accompanied on stage by Richard Ramnarine and members of Dil-E-Nadan after he broke down for his speech. He referred to his brother as Superman and talked about the moments before his passing. He ended his speech with a few lines from his song Someday joined by the band .

Rennie was referred to as “The Rocket Launcher” as well as a loving father, brother and son. He impacted many lives during his time here and is now reunited with his dad in the heavens, singing down on not just his family but all who loved him.

Nine suspects were arrested, two fi****ms and a quantity of ammunition recovered, during early morning anti-crime exercises conducted across the country today.

In the Port of Spain Division, officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, conducted an exercise around 12:55 am on Wednesday 6th August,2023 during which they intercepted one Nissan Wingroad with five male occupants.

A search of the vehicle resulted in one Ta**us pistol loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition being found and seized.

The men, from the Port of Spain and Western Divisions, were arrested in connection with the find.

Still in the Port of Spain Division, officers conducted an exercise around 3:30 am today, during which they recovered a Toyota Corolla motor vehicle which was reported taken from its owner at gunpoint in the Central Division.

And, in the Central Division, officers of the Emergency Response Patrol Unit along with personnel of a Joint Police Army Patrol, were able to intercept a Nissan AD Wagon, with four Venezuelan nationals, around 10:10 pm, on Tuesday 5th September, 2023.

A search of the vehicle resulted in a firearm, a quantity of co***ne and several tie straps were found and seized.

The four suspects were arrested in connection with the finds.

September is Adoption and Foster Care awareness month in Trinidad and Tobago. It is a time when the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago shines a light on these two critical spokes in the nation’s child protection wheel.

This year the Authority is seeking to raise awareness and interest in Kinship Foster Care.

Minister of Education, Dr. Nyan Gadsby Dolly said 99% of the 830 public ECCE, Primary and Secondary Schools across Trinidad and Tobago returned to school.

With respect to Trinidad, 0.4% of schools with extensive repair works did not open today due to works being completed. 0.6% schools opened on rotation due to extensive repair works being completed. In all cases except one, repair works are scheduled to be completed during the course of this week.

Students- 82%

As indicated last week, before migrant children can enter schools, Immigration Division and the AG's office must work out the issue of student permits. That is ongoing, with a further meeting being held today, September 4th.

Until the law is adjusted, migrant children cannot enter schools legally. The first cohort of students to be integrated, and the receiving schools, have already been identified. Once the legal arrangements are finalised, they will be registered.

𝐁𝐈𝐂𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐘𝐒 $𝟖𝟎𝐊 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐉𝐔𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐏

Officers of the Biche Police Station (BPS) have destroyed a ma*****na camp with an estimated street value of $80,000.

According to police reports, during the period 4 pm and 6 pm on August 30th, BPS police officers were conducting a drug trafficking suppression and eradication exercise in the district when they received information about a ma*****na camp located along Biche Ortoire Road, Biche.

The officers proceeded to the location where they found 50 fully grown cannabis trees at a site located 20 feet from the roadside.

Despite surveillance exercises by the officers, no one was seen at the location, however, the trees were uprooted and destroyed.

PC Singh is continuing investigations into the find.

𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐄 𝐆𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐁𝐀𝐈𝐋

A 49-year-old Rio Claro man who is accused of two counts of r**e against a woman was ordered to stay away from her at all times. The accused, who was not called upon to plea and was granted $80,000 bail with a surety, was also instructed to report to the Rio Claro Police Station once a week.

He was given the order last Monday by Magistrate Alicia Chanka at the Rio Claro Magistrate Court.

The man will reappear before the court on September 20th to answer the charges.He was arrested on August 24th in the Couva district.

According to a police report made on August 22nd, a woman was in her yard at about 9 am on May 20th, when a man met her and offered her work to clean his apartment and secretary work on a job site. The woman, detectives were told, accompanied the man in his motor vehicle with her baby where he took her to his apartment.

While there, the man asked her to go to the beach and she went with him to a beach in Claxton Bay with her child where they bathed. They later returned to the man’s apartment. She subsequently put the baby to sleep and the suspect told her to take off her clothes and she refused. He then allegedly forcibly took off her clothes and had sexual in*******se with her without her consent.

Following investigations, the man was charged with the offences.

The missing teen resides in Couva and was last seen on August 31st 2023. He was reported missing to the Couva Police Station, on September 3rd, 2023.He is of African descent, and is slim built. He is dark brown in complexion with a short hair style.

JANNAH, of Ryan Street, San Juan was last seen on September 2nd, 2023, and reported missing to the San Juan Police Station, on September 3rd, 2023.

She is of African descent, five feet, two inches tall, and is slim built. She is brown in complexion, with long, black, curly hair. Jannah was last seen wearing black coloured joggers, a pair of sandals and a black hijab.

Local entertainer Rennie Ramnarine passed away on Monday morning, after a battle with kidney failure.

Ramnarine was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure in 2019, and was undergoing dialysis treatment. His death was confirmed in a social media post by his brother, Raymond Ramnarine.

The Ramnarine brothers are still mourning the loss of their dad Ramnarine Tole Moonilal who was laid to rest in January. He was a lead vocalist with his family band, Dil-E-Nadan, along with his brothers Raymond and Richard Ramnarine.He was a father of three.

His brother wrote: “To the family, friends and all of his dear fans who loved and cherished our brother, Rennie Ramnarine.”

Two persons were denied bail and remanded into custody when they appeared before a Couva Magistrate yesterday, charged with multiple offences including Wounding with Intent, Possession of Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Firearm to Endanger Life and Possession of Ammunition to Endanger Life.

Kevin Kalicharan, 34, and Kavita Kalicharan, 25, were arrested by Central Division officers following a report of Wounding with Intent and Possession of Firearm and Ammunition arising out of an alleged shooting incident which occurred on Saturday 26th August, 2023 in the Freeport district.

Their matter was adjourned to September 22nd, 2023.

Two persons were arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized during Operation Blue Line exercises conducted in the North Central Division overnight.

Meanwhile, three persons arrested in connection with firearm related offences appeared before the Magistrates’ Court on Monday 28th to answer to the charges.
In the latest gun seizure, officers of the North Central Division TaskForce, Area West, conducted an exercise between 8 pm and 11:30 pm, on Monday 28th August, 2023, during which they intercepted a Hyundai Elantra motor vehicle along Bassie Street, Valsayn with three male occupants.

One of the suspects exited the vehicle and was able to escape, while the other two were held. A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding a Glock-19 semi- automatic pistol, two magazines and 31 rounds of ammunition.

The suspects, a 34-year-old Arima man and a 32-year-old Valencia man, were arrested in connection with the find.

Investigations are ongoing into the above matter.

Due to the passage of Hurricane Idalia, Caribbean Airlines (CAL) has cancelled its flights to Cuba for Tuesday (August 29).

The affected flights are BW 476 and BW 477 (POS/HAV/POS).

CAL provided the update via a statement today.
It said customers are being contacted and will be re-accommodated.

In a series of unrelated incidents, six teenagers, two of whom are residents of Tobago, have been officially reported as missing to different police stations.

The unsettling disappearances have unfolded over the course of the past three days, spanning from August 21st to the 23rd. Although these occurrences are separate, they collectively raise concerns and prompt authorities in continuing their investigations.
