***Full-service restoration by midday***
Broadband customers should have their services fully restored by midday, while some should have already noticed an improvement in connectivity, a well-placed source told Guardian Media.
Contrary to initial reports from the service providers, the ‘failure’ occurred on land and not with the underwater fibre cables. This means that the service providers were able to isolate and resolve the problem much faster that originally stated, meaning “internet connectivity should be restored to everyone by midday,” the source confirmed.
Some customers should have already experienced restored service.
The issue was reported early this morning on the international cable connection which connects Trinidad and Tobago to the rest of the world via Curacao. All major providers were affected including TSTT, Digicel and Flow.
Online classes were affected and customers across the country experienced difficulty browsing the internet.
The Telecommunications Authority is expected to issue a statement on the matter.
