Did you know that the Latin word for 'plagiarism' means 'KIDNAPPER'? (www.yale.edu) I didn't! But it makes sense. To plagiarize means to take someone's work and pass it off as your own, using it without acknowledging the source. It is seen as a major breach of honesty in academic and literary circles.

When you are writing your books, you MUST avoid plagiarism at ALL costs! This includes making sure you cite your sources within your text or using a Bibliography/References section. This is extremely important for maintaining your integrity as a professional - especially for those who are writing non-fiction books.

When we do an edit of your non-fiction book, we make sure we fact-check EVERYTHING and add to or create a References section to avoid you (and us!) being sued for using someone else's copyrighted information without permission.

Enjoy our interview with local romance author N.G. Peltier🌊🌸🍪!

1. Tell me what you want readers to take away from the island bites series and why? -

I want readers to get sense of the island I call home and some aspects of Trinidad culture (how we speak, our music, the food, some popular locations around the island. I also want to show that hey look over here, those of us in this part of the
world can have the fluffy, cute happily ever after too.

2. What is your target audience for the dating countdown? -

Hmm, those who are familiar with Caribbean life so they can feel seen and those who may never have known a thing about Trinidad or the Caribbean on a whole (so they can get in the know!)

3. Who is a character that you enjoyed working on? -
I’d have to say Maxi since she has been thru so much with her divorce and now trying figure out her sexuality too. I loved the complexity of that internal conflict while she’s also trying to get back some semblance of herself since she felt so lost after her marriage ended. Which was a great juxtaposition to Remi who’s secure in who she is but still feels a bit out of her element too because she doesn't know what’s Maxi’s end goal with all this fooling around. Also, Maxi’s a mom so it was fun writing those interactions with her daughter Leah.

4. Which romance tropes you would like to write in future or for an imaginative island bites book 5 or 6. -

Sooo, I’d love to fake dating and I do have that planned for book 4 actually, which I haven’t started writing yet lol. And I did plan this as a 4 book series so I don’t think I’d go beyond that other than maybe some short stories to revisit the characters �� . Also on my projects list I some ideas that fall under marriage of convenience,
runaway bride and more!

5. What important themes do you think has stood out for you in the book and why is it so prevalent in our society today? -

First one would definitely be “it’s never too late to redefine who you are” or to find yourself. Society makes it seem that if you’re a certain age you must be xyz and know what you’re about with no room for switching that up! Another I wanted to explore with this book was sexuality, which was twofold: how Maxi feels about herself, whereby she needed to get back to that place where she felt desirable again and her attraction to Remi which puts her sexual orientation into question, for herself, how she thinks she needs to identify, what that means for who she thought she was versus who she is now. I don’t think this is a spoiler but with
both of my MCs I wanted to show that queerness doesn’t look the same for everyone. Remi IDs as pansexual, it’s said on page but Maxi never actually says oh I’m gonna call myself x orientation or attaches a specific label to herself which was intentional.

6. Describe the dating countdown in 3 words. -

Cutie, sexy, lovely (lol, fellow BTS fans will know) but seriously I do think those truly fit for various reasons.

Caribbean book recc!

On this day in 1979, Dominican novelist and short story writer Jean Rhys died in Exeter, England. Her last, and most famous novel, Wide Sargasso Sea, published in 1966, catapulted an elderly Rhys into literary fame that she bitterly described as having come too late.

Wide Sargasso Sea remains beloved, as we near a half-century after Rhys’ death, by Caribbean and international readers worldwide. A postcolonial, feminist response to Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre, it reveals the tragic life of ‘the madwoman in the attic’, Bertha Mason.
