The easiest of the three spots I've explored this week with has to be rincon basin, a hidden gem with its natural rocky protected pool and a perfect nook for a relaxing break.

This basin offers a delightful diversion from the well-trodden path to Rincon. Depending on your vehicle, you might even drive right onto the trail, cutting your walk down to a mere five minutes. Embarking on an adventure in pursuit of the mesmerizing Rincon Basin! 🌲🚗 Follow the rustic road past Big O's Ranch, then either hike or go off-road until you stumble upon the iconic blue barrel on your left. Make a left turn at the barrel, and you'll find yourself on a picturesque trail alongside a magnificent tree in a serene, open space. Continue along this path for roughly 5-10 minutes, with a gentle downhill slope, and your reward will be the breathtaking beauty of Rincon Basin. 🏞️✨

Sheltered beneath the canopy of trees, it's the perfect spot for a refreshing dip, whipping up a quick meal, or simply unwinding in nature's embrace. 🌿💧☀️

Avoca waterfall !!!!!!!

Located in the Blanchisseuse Forest Reserve while treking for about 10-20 mins Avoca waterfall.
It is located in one of the several tributaries to the Marianne River
A day spent exploring this river will reward you with crystal-clear swimming holes, exquisitely carved gorges, and enchantingly deep water.
It is just as interesting as a trek to any of Trinidad's more unusual waterfalls. The diversity of locations to discover following the little hike to the waterfall, including the Marianne Gorges and upper pools, justifies that lofty estimation.
Avocat Waterfall which we know is stunning waterfall that is a short stroll from the few homes is a favorite spot for lovers, visitors, and hikers. Although this waterfalls name (avocat) is incorrect due to miscommunication over the many years by hikers and hiking groups the real name is Petite Marianne Waterfall. Avoca not avocat is the name of the general area which is home to these beautiful waterfalls.
However, I want to draw attention to this shift, which has spread so widely that it might be impossible to go back to the previous moniker absent a deliberate effort. The transformation has been so extensive that I don't believe that the existence of obvious signage would make a difference at this point.
But for quite some time now, if only for the benefit of posterity, I've thought that I should at least offer some historical knowledge concerning the name.
The history of East Indian indentureship in Trinidad is associated with the name Avocat, but the term Avoca refers to the presence of Irish settlers in Trinidad. It is also related to the name of a much larger colony in South Trinidad that was mostly populated by East Indians who had completed their indentured servitude, or time-expired indentureds as some people referred to them.
We are loosing a lot of history when the location is renamed Avocat. But to fully describe it would require some specifics.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Located in Paramin Trinidad.

Whose Our Lady of Guadalupe ?

Our Lady of Guadalupe, also referred to as the Virgin of Guadalupe, is a title given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, by the Catholic Church. It is connected to a series of five Marian apparitions thought to have taken place in December 1531 and a revered image on a cloak kept in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

In Trinidad, living in the jungle means being surrounded by a plethora of unique trees. The Gumbo Limbo tree/ Bursera Simaruba more commonly known as the "Naked Indian Tree" is one of my personal favorites! It is a popular tropical tree native to the southeastern United States, although it may be found all throughout the Americas, the West Indies, and Trinidad in particular. This tree adapts well to a range of dry and wet environments and is a salt-tolerant species. The Gumbo Limbo, while having a relatively soft wood, is a very wind-tolerant tree, making it an ideal choice for hurricane or extreme weather locations.
This fast-growing canopy tree may reach heights of 50-60 feet and more, with a trunk that has a stunning green and red hue with exfoliating bark. Because of its reddish brown hue and peeling skin, this tree is also known as the Spirit Gum, Birch Gum, Turpentine, Naked Indian, or, more often, the "Tourist Tree" in famous holiday areas!
The sticky, turpentine-scented resin of this magnificent tree has been used for ages to make glue, varnish, liniments, and a water-resistant covering for dugout boats, among other things. The leaves are steeped to produce a medical tea for a range of diseases, and the fragrant sap is used as an anti-inflammatory, a gout remedy, and a sort of incense. The bark is also used to treat rashes produced by poisonous plants like poison ivy and poison oak. Though the tree's wood is soft and spongy, it has been used to make matchsticks, toothpicks, charcoal, boxes, crates, and interior trim.
Skin infections, skin sores, swallowing a bark tea for urinary tract infections, discomfort, colds, flu, sun stroke, fevers, and to purify the blood are some of the tribal or Native Indian medicinal applications. For these indigenous cures, a length of bark approximately 5 cm x 30 cm is cooked in a gallon of water for 10 minutes or so, then applied topically or consumed as a tea 2-3 times per day. It is claimed to fight germs, halt excessive bleeding, improve urine, raise sweating, cleanse the blood, neutralize different venoms, be useful as a cough expectorate, reduce fevers, and, boost libido!!
So, the next time you're out hiking, exploring, or simply driving around Trinidad, don't pass by the Gumbo Limbo tree, or rather the naked Indian tree, without giving it a second thought. Take a look at how much one can do and "heal" with this lovely and unusual tree!

Majestic Matura
The Matura River, cold, clean, and lovely, is a hiker's dream.

There's a wonderful deep pool for swimmers and jumpers, around twelve feet deep in some spots, and shallow rocky places for mermaids to relax in.

Matura River is famed for its pure water, which runs down from deep into the northern range's forest and has become one of my favorite rivers in Trinidad, and it is home to a multitude of hiking trails.
This river is lined by rocks and limestones that filter the water, making it an ideal spot for a river hike.
The Matura Majestic site is about two hours up the river and is usually passed on the route to Manulot.
It takes roughly 45 minutes to reach the Manulot waterfall.

It is accessible through two pathways and two sites.
The river route, which begins at Thomas Trace, is the first and most popular trail.
This walk takes roughly an hour and a half on land and 45 minutes upriver to the magnificent waterfall.
After passing the Matura river and the Police station, the second route, which appears to be more simpler and shorter, is located on an obscure road.
The second road on the length, not the first one on the left.
As you approach the road, the view is breathtaking, with bamboo arches along the path. You'll have to drive in for approximately 10 minutes and then cross a bridge till you can no longer go any farther.
Four-by-four vehicles will be allowed to travel on the road for another fifteen minutes until it becomes a trail. The terrain is not very tough, but it is long and easy to get lost due to the numerous intersections.
It might take you an hour and a half to get to the trailhead, and another thirty minutes if you park farther out.
Until you reach the river descent, this path is rather level, with modest inclines in certain areas.

It's a very picturesque place, shaded by the canopy with occasional rays of sunlight breaking through. It's a terrific place to unwind and relax after a long week.
You should not try this climb without a guide since you might quickly become lost.

The only failure is not to try.

Pachystachys is a genus of 12 flowering plants of the Acanthaceae family endemic to the Caribbean also know as Cardinal Guard. They are evergreen perennials and shrubs with brilliantly colored bracts and big terminal spikes of flowers.
Pachystachys is derived from the Greek word "thick spike," which refers to the flower heads. Justicia is a near relative of the genus.
