People, Devils and Demons walk amongst us and they do not belong here. We must not tolerate them taking advantage of our innocent and think that they will away.
A woman from San Francique was arrested by police on Saturday night following allegations of a series of extremely violent and disturbing acts, some of which were reportedly captured on video and circulated on social media.
She has been identified as Fareeda Balgobin, also known as Sacha Balgobin. In one widely shared video, Balgobin is seen assaulting an elderly man. Additional footage has surfaced appearing to show incidents of bullying and other acts of violence against individuals.
Balgobin is also facing serious allegations of holding a woman by the name of Savita Basdeo, hostage for at least 7 years, during which the victim was reportedly subjected to prolonged physical abuse. In one video, the woman is seen with visible injuries and alleges that she was subjected to further acts of severe abuse.
Basdeo's husband and sons were beaten when they visited Fareeda's home to get Savita. Reports were made at least five times at the police station by Savita's husband but he was ignored by the police.
Social media activists, Edward Moodie and Vicky Rampersad of Trio.tt, are understood to have played a significant role in bringing attention to the matter, contributing to the intervention by the Commissioner of Police.
Fareeda reportedly got wind that the police was looking for her and went into hiding. Sometime last Fareeda, her son and Savita visited the police station and Savita broke free and ran to the officers where she revealed she was being held against her will.
