On June 16 2021 the British High Commission in a statement congratulated Trini-born nurse Arlene Wellman.

The statement wrote: "Congratulations to Arlene Wellman who has been awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to nursing during COVID-19 in Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday Honours 2021."

Wellman has over 20 years of experience in caring for the elderly and has held senior nursing roles including Senior Matron and Divisional Nurse at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Wellman also completed a Florence Nightingale Leadership Fellowship and is working towards becoming a registered Patient Safety Executive with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She is currently the Chief Nurse at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and Director of Infection Prevention and Control and Executive lead for their equality, diversity and inclusion.

On this rainy Friday, I have some sunshine to share with you all ☀️

I’d like to acknowledge and congratulate Kardiesha Johnson of Cassia Street, Morvant on excelling in the CXC/CAPE examinations. Kardiesha, who attends Holy Name Convent, came fourth in the entire Caribbean in Accounting Unit 2 with all As and that’s extremely remarkable. At the CXC level, she received seven 1s and two 2s. Her academic results have been excellent but even more remarkable is her strength to battle through adversity. The 19-year old’s determination and grit to become successful is amazing because for a very long time she had no access to WiFi and would sometimes go by a shop in her area to do her homework and other studies.

Her wish is to become a lawyer and for that she’s currently in the process of enrolling in the University of the West Indies’ law program.

Her mom Diana triumphantly said “Can anything good come out of Nazarette and Morvant? Yes.! We are giving God all the praise and glory for always coming through for my children despite the fights and struggles. Pressure does not burst pipes, it brings forth praises to the Almighty God.”

Let’s all congratulate Kardiesha

Sealots native and former Morvant Laventille Secondary School student Tanisha Joseph on January 11 2021 graduated from the University of the West Indies with Bachelor of the arts degree in Spanish.

During her time pursuing her degree she took classes at the Venezuelan Embassy, where the informal learning experience inspired her to start her own online teaching platform in 2017.

FOUND – BRIDGET HANELY

BRIDGET HANELY, 71 of Banyan Boulevard, Malabar, Arima, who was reported missing today, has been found.

Bridget was found at the Arima Health facility, where she was given a medical examination. She has been reunited with her family.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service wishes to thank the members of the public for their assistance in locating Bridget.

Available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback versions, the book is entitled 'Chronicles of Coryn 7 Days of Fun' and is recommended as a good read for readers of all ages.

On 10 July 2020, Trinidad and Tobago national and Holy Faith Convent alumna Dr. Mandisa Greene became the 1st black President of the United Kingdom's Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Greene was also the first person of color to become a member of the Council back in 2014.

Aqueena Alexander is a 19 year old form 6 student of St. Joseph's Convent, Port-of-Spain and resident of the Laventille community. She received a partial scholarship from St. John's University, New York where she plans to pursue her degree in the field of Computer Science.
