The Calypsonians 2020 began on February 09, 2020 with photographs of performers at Divas.I returned last month to photograph 17 new calypsonians

During covid lockdowns, I was accomodated by Kenny Phillips at Wack.

People find things. In this case, local music archivist Shawn Randoo found this clipping from a June 1978 issue of Inprint's People Magazine, noting that the track "Dougla Woman" that I reviewed was David Rudder's first release.
Back then, I'd get stacks of new, often unlabelled 45's from KH and Semp Studios and that single probably had the title written on it by hand.

Tenaj Smith has been singing since she was eight years old. Lady B was her first songwriter.

She began performing with the Divas Calypso Tent in 2015 and after a six year break, returned this year to sing Me Time.

Smith placed second in the 2018 Junior Calypso Monarch competition and first in the local T&T Idol competition.

Kadija Jeremiah performs as Kadija, offering Oh Woman and a tribute song by Singing Sandra, Ancient Rhythm.

She has performed with the Divas for ten years, singing backup for one year.
As part of the Divine Echoes Orchestra, she took part in performances in Cuba, Venezuela's Carnival and at the Summit of the Americas.

She performed original soca numbers between 2105 and 2020, but has chosen now to focus on calypso and jazz.

Naomi Abiola has served as Master of Ceremonies for 11 years with the Divas Calypso Tent.

She was the tent's MC for nine years and returned to the role last year. A teacher by profession, she has participated in every talent competition in Trinidad’s

She has earned multiple awards for her creative work in Toronto, including the Newcomer Artiste of the Year and Spoken Word Artiste.

Stacey Sobers performed calypsonian Ann Marie Innis' Lifeline and Ella Andall's Rhythm of a people in 2025.

She has been a calypsonian for the last 24 years and performed with Klassic Russo before joining the Divas Calypso Tent in 2004.

Sobers recently starred in the Queen of the Road musical in the title role of Calypso Rose.

"The artform is one in which people can express themselves in ways they cannot otherwise. It's one way of bringing communities together and showcase the talent that we have.”

Karen Eccles has been singing for "many years," beginning as a background singer and then becoming a solo act in the 1980's.

She has performed with Kaiso Karavan, Klassic Russo, Kaiso House, Sweet Jean's All Female tent. She first performed with the Divas Calypso Tent as a founding member 21 years ago.

Eccles was crowned NWAC Calypso Queen in 2005 and has been to Skinner Park as a semi-finalist many times. She performed Make America Great Again in 20205.

Crystal Charles is The Legal Diva. She is a founding member of the Cultural Ambassadors in Sangre Grande and has won a number of Regional Calypso Monarch competitions.

She has sung with the Divas Calypso Tent for 13 years and performed Big Fish in 2025.

Dalia McConney was a founding calypsonian with the Divas Calypso Tent and after taking a break, returned to the stage last year.

She has competed in the NJAC Pioneers competition and is a Junior Calypso Monarch. She sang Life Advice in 2025.

Sherisse Collymore sang Pressure, a soca number and Ella Andall's Missing Generation as a tribute song with Divas Calypso Tent for 2025.

She has been singing calypso from the age of 11, was a Junior Calypso Monarch and has been singing soca since the age of 18, the year she joined Divas. She was photographed for the project in 2020.

Nakasa Thatcher-Roberts performs as Nakasa, She has been singing calypso for the last 20 years and this is her second year with the Divas Calypso Tent.

Last year she made it to Skinner Park for the Calypso Monarch Semi-finals. She sang Ungrateful for 2025.

Louisa Diane Hunte was a background vocalist for the past 32 years and began singing calypso with the Calypso R***e in 2020. This is her first year with the Divas Calypso Tent.

She was a finalist in the 2025 NWAC Calypso Queen competition with her song, Forged.
