WORDS OF WISDOM BY APPAJI
Jaya Guru Datta. Om Sri Ganapathy Sachchidannada Sadgurubhyo Namaha.
The Bhajan group is singing well. Just sing at a higher(quicker) pace. Not all bhajans should be sung the same. It creates disturbance during Puja. The bhajans should be sung at the right pace. Some are faster pace, some are slower. The shruti also may be different for each. New people will not be drawn to bhajans if you don't sing with variety in raga and in pace. It is not enough to just live, you must live well and be happy. Same with bhajans. Our life should also be like that - happy and comfortable. Even if you live alone, you should be happy.
Yesterday, we want to Dashavatara Venkataramana Swamy site yesterday. Datta's web is massive and sacred. WE can fall in that web only if we have merit of several lifetimes. That ananda and that happiness and the endurance to face difficulties are not known to those who are new. Once you follow Swamiji, you will easily overcome difficulties. It is hard to become Datta devotees. Many are only in the outer circle. There were several families who have been seeing Swamiji for 3 decades, but they never got close to Swamiji. Your karma comes in the way.
It keeps us from doing tapas. It creates obstacles. It creates the feelings of k**a/desire and krodha/anger. That Karma disrupts our vratam, our tapas and our noble actions. In addition, the Devatas also will not help us. Why, due to jealousy? No. They want you to become purer. Do not think pure gold has no impurities. It has some impurities. Lakshmi is in that gold, our stories say. So, that gold is heated, pounded on and then put in water repeatedly. The gold ornaments we wear are not fully pure. In order to make jewelry, that impurity is necessary.
So too, when we take human birth, that karma is necessary. When we have that karma, it makes us human. We have agami, sanchita karma etc. But that doesn't mean we should accumulate more karma.
A story in Katha Sagar says: God teaches us lessons through everything around us. In everything we see we learn a lesson.
‘A king had 5 sons. The king grew old. He had still not handed the kingdom to his sons. All four sons were strong, the last one was a big weak, but intelligent. He summoned all 5. The king said the first four sons had to go in each of the four directions. The last remained home. The sons went to the Datta temple in the kingdom first. A very old monk was doing tapas there. The four princes fell at his feet and said: “We are going out to see the world, please bless and guide us. What should be our course of action?”
The monk said: Since you came and disturbed me to ask me, I have to answer. All four should not go in the same direction. Each one go out in one direction. Come back and tell me about the wonders as well as the meaning of those wonders.
Then, the monk said: If you incorrectly report the meaning, you will turn into statues because you disturbed me. So, you must give me the right response for each wonderment, you should not ask me.
LOST IN SAMSARA
The four head out in one direction each. The first one goes eastward. He finds an old big tamarind tree. It is as big as the redwood tree in California. He found various vegetables on the tree, vegetables of all sizes, those as big as pumpkin and as small as a mustard seed were on the tree. The prince was amazed to see that and a stick too rotating around each vegetable.
The second prince went to another place. He saw all sights and found a big cow drinking the milk of a cow. He could not understand how this was. That was one of the strangest things he saw. His mind seemed to stop, so surprised was he!
The third prince set out to see the wonders. He found fishermen crying near a river. He asked them what happened. They said there was no fish and that was the reason they were crying. Back in those days, fish was their food as was other meat because they did no farming. But these days we get high nutrition food from plants, yet we eagerly eat meat. How can you be a living being? Why not eat the child at home, if you are able to eat other beings. The mother chick weeps for its children. We are still uncivilized as if we do not know how to farm crops and eat vegetables to get our nutrition. We are so foolish and ignorant.
The reason why the body is odorous and full of desire and sin is due to eating meat. If you did not know vegetables , there is exemption, but you know vegetables.
Mangoes have the energy for 3 days. Urad Dal protein has the energy of meat. Lallita Sahasranama says "mamsanishtha...." It does not mean Mother likes meat. It means we have faith in Devi; it also means Urad dal paste that is on par with meat.
The pig eats the excretion of humans and people eat pig. And then, they want to take a pig kidney(transplant.) It's because we are still uncivilized and ignorant, we have no jnana, we do not know how to grow crops.
The third prince found that someone caught a lot of fish a distance away and then tossed a fish one by one into the water. The prince was surprised. He did not understand.
The fourth prince found a man pouring water from one pot to another in three pots. This seemed to be a task without an end. He went in a loop doing this. Neither was the water diminishing, nor were the pots filling.
The first prince came back to the sage and said he did not understand the wonder. The monk cursed him and the prince turned into a stone. All four turned into stone because they could not understand what they saw.
The king had turned old. He was aggrieved that the sons had turned into statues. The last prince sought permission to bring back the brothers. The father was concerned that he would turn into a stone too, but the prince said he would be okay.’
Listen to the guru, then your tapas will be fulfilled. You can do darshanam, sparshanam, sambhashanam with guru. You are studying the prayers for Swamiji. When Swamiji is here, you keep him waiting since you need to pray.
The fifth prince set out to search for his brothers. He saw the old saint and prostrated to him. The four others had woken up the saint from tapas, but this prince did not wake him up, he silently prostrated to the saint.’
So, when you come to the temple, you can come and chant prayers here, or chant the Gita or meditate. Swamiji will really talk to you. But your mind is on hunger, thirst, money, shoes you left outside etc.
I advise people to wear old slippers to temple then the thieves definitely will not take it.. I keep telling you to connect with Swamiji through vibrations. But you do not want that. You want to have scattered minds.
So, when you come to the prayer hall, you can study the shlokas and meditate when Swamiji is not here. There are good vibrations here, you can catch them. You will get the answer through meditation.
Silence your mind at least for 15 minutes. You do not need to physically talk to Swamiji. Of course you might need it sometimes. Study the Gita. Bhagavad Gita is the best. If you sit here and study the Gita, you get memory power. If you meditate here, my vibrations are mixed with your vibrations. You will forget your pains and problems.
Experience this for yourself. You all want physical connection.
When I say you should follow Swamiji, it's not just about learning of his coordinates, it is about following His words. If Swamiji gives 100 words, at least follow 5. I will be happy.
I am only asking for 5%. That is not a good business return, but I am okay. You follow Swamiji for decades, but you are not following his words. You are following physically, but still not following his lesson. You are still a student, but your shape is different. I see that you have gotten a little old, but the mind is very young, like a child. If you cannot take anything from Sadguru, you are all losers. You are not foolish, you are all intelligent, but what you have taken is not enough.
I give spiritual advice you must practice. When you practice, that is my fee. For example, I took promise from small children that they will take gold medal from me. Even some illiterate people have memorized the Gita.
Going back to the story...
‘The saint opened his eyes when the youngest prince prostrated to him. He sought from the sage help in finding his brothers. The sage asked him to go in all four directions. He told them the brothers had turned into stone because they could not answer his questions on what they had seen.
The prince went to the tree and saw the same sight. He did not understand it and prostrated to it. He went in the second direction and was surprised seeing the cow drink milk from the calf. He kept that in his mind. He then looked at the people catching fish, and nearby, those releasing the fish into the water.
He came back to the sage right away and prostrated to him. The prince said he could only answer with the sage's grace.
Many people invest money with others' names. That should never be done. The vegetables that should not be on that tree were like those people. He answered all the questions with the Guru’s Grace. The children should care for the old parents like the young cow feeding the old one. Greedy persons would regret like the crying fishermen. We should take only what we need and then we would be happy. So the young prince won and brought back all the four brothers. The older brothers prayed to their father that the youngest one be the king because he was the most intelligent. Jnana never diminishes despite how much you fill like the pots the prince had seen.’
I pray on this Rakhi Purnima that all your containers get full. May you understand the Sadguru's message. Do not just hanker after worldly affairs. Pursue Jnana, learn, be satisfied.”
Always serve the Guru. Understand the purpose of your life, understand your duty, ask yourself who your children are, and what you need to do for them. You need love with Jnana, not bli
The body is full of diseases. The samsara is full of grief. You are always hankering after children's settling down. There is always grief in the house. To get rid of grief, think about god, grief will go away on its own.
In the old days, they used to use turmeric powder to keep away insects. That does not keep the insects, it keeps them away. These days, they spray things that kill the insects. All that We should live without inflicting violence. We swat the mosquito and kill it. YOu are happy in that moment, but your sin is adding up, sin comes to us. Use the high frequency sounds that you cannot hear that keeps the mosquitoes away. But you don't do that. Then, the mosquito and all of its relatives and friends will come after you.

Narahari Teertha Swami- No Attachment
Swamiji remembers His beloved father on the day of his passing.

Om Namha Shivaya mantra was very dear to Narahari Teertha Swamiji.

This is the third or fourth time we are doing NT Aradhana here. There is probably some connection with Baton Rouge.
Yesterday, the Aradhana was performed in a grand manner in Anantapur. The main event was feeding the poor. I am very happy about that.
At night, Narahari Teertha Swamiji would start Namah Shivaya. During the day, he would chant Narasimha japa. He forgot all Vedanta. He did not want any Vedanta, he only liked to do Japa. He would vist 2-3 times a week and say: "Appa, today I bring 200,000". He walked in with a big bag. So, people would be whispering. He would refuse to give in front of people, he would go inside to Swamiji and take out a japamala from the bag and pour some water and offer all his merit, punya, tapas to Swamiji. He did not want to keep anything. He is a very special man, a very special special being.
He used to look quite good. After his sanyasa deeksha someone prayed to him to take all their disease. And he did. After that, that lady looked good and he turned completely white. Then, he said to Swamiji that his tapas and japa was all over. He didn't take Swamiji's permission because he felt it was his duty. That day I cried a lot. It was not good for his health. He was already in his 90s. He lived until 99 years.
He said to me, "Appa (father), I failed to reach 100 years - one century".
He did Sahasrachandra darshana. Many offered real gold during the event and he gave away all of that to poor people. Vishal Datta was born during that event.
He is my guru and my friend. I have not seen such a simple person. NO difficulty would faze him. When his daughter arrived, he would say "Whose daughter?" He had similar detachment for his grandson. He felt he had no relationship to him either.
He would eat if given food, else he would starve. He would just subsist on what h,e liked, rava ladoo and coffee. That was all he would eat most of the time. Doctors would advise him to eat proper food, but he would refuse and ask the doctors to eat so they can be well and treat patients. So Vara Lakshmi would make rava ladoo everyday.
He would drink 5-6 cups of coffee everyday. I directed that more milk be added, but he refused that.
Later,From him we learn that we should have no attachment of any kind whatsoever. He had no attachment, no desire for anything. He wanted to do Japam all the time.
Narasimha Swamy was his family deity. He wanted to do something in Ahobilam. He did not want Swamiji to do it on his behalf, he wanted to do it himself. But after he passed, I built a small ashrama there. We are remembering him with happiness. He was my friend and guru. We would speak a lot about Brahma sutras, Narada Bhakti Sutras. He like Shiva Purana lot. He was such a beautiful old man, but suddenly transformed himself by taking on someone else's diseases. I felt very sorry, I even wept for him. That was only because he would suffer. Of course, charity is very good, but he should not suffer in that age. He would not let anyone help him, he would not receive aid.
In the end, he asked if Swamiji would be around for Navaratri. Swamiji wondered why he asked and Narahari Teertha Swamiji said it was because Swamiji was a globe trotter.
Swamiji assured him he would be there. Narahari Teertha Swamiji also expressed he would want to be in Bommeparti.
He would speak to Swamiji cryptically like this.
He came for Swamij's birthday and announced Swamiji was Maha Vishnu. He said Swamiji appeared in his dream with a diamond crown and gave him darshan. He then left and went back to his village. 15 days after that, a devotee from andhra - Jagan Mohan Rao came to the Ashram with the exact same crown as described by Narahari Teertha Swamiji.
Then, we wanted to call Narahari Teertha Swamiji and show him the crown. He said he already saw the crown two weeks ago in the dream and it looked like this. He said Swamiji was Maha Vishnu and would envelop everyone in Maya.
After that (in this lunar month of Shravana), he would normally ask for coffee. But that morning, he sat in this bed and chanted Om Namah Shivaya and life flew away from him.
We got the news immediately. Normally, yateeshvaras drop their body in the lotus pose. He was very think and frail man. He was seated in the lotus pose already. The daughter had thought he was in meditation until she saw that he did not stir for a long time. So, based on his cryptic message, his samadhi was built in Bommeparti. It was people dear to him that went in the van with him to his final resting place.
Pray that we all get the peaceful mind he had. He never kept anything for himself. He would conduct pujas eveywhere. They would only want him to bless with akshatas. When he attained samadhi, people came in flocks from far away villages. That is when I realized he had so many devotees. They would all refer to him as their guru. His resting place is right next the symbolic resting place of mother (Mother was cremated, not buried), so that symbolic place is made of mud. 1ma few seconds ago
Jayalakshmi mata would not allow anything Narahari Teertha Swamiji got in charity to be brought home. He had to give away everything in charity, shower and enter the house.
He had so much jnana, but was so simple as if he knew nothing. He deliberately forgot everything. I showed him his older daughter, but he had no attachment. He had love, but no attachment at all. But he was extremely attached to me. He would say: You need to be well, you are Maha Vishnu. I did not give you any inheritance.
Finally, people found some land much later and allocated it back to Swamiji.

Married life now!
People are divorcing after giving birth to 3 children, are they humans? They are animals. So, before you get married, think well. So, if you want to get married, it's your responsibility. I am not taking your responsibility. You decide and I will put turmeric rice on your head.
People are teaching me valuable lessons. It is your karma, both the boy and the girl are very intelligent. You can decide for yourself. I will give you akshatas (turmeric rice). I will bless you, but it is not my responsibiliy. Many have this fickless - they say Swamiji got them married (and it's His responsibility). They decide on everything and then ask Swamiji for a green light. I am not going to say no at that point.
People get married for lust and then separate. That is animal behavior. we must protect our tradition and our system. We must be peaceful. When you have learned the Bhagavad Gita, you must be careful in your lives. Fighting is not important. You must try to adjust and get along. When you put the responsibility on me I will get angry. That is wrong for you to do. You brought it on yourself, you must experience it.
Our life is influenced by the stars. A wedding happening, or not happening, having children, not having children at all are His sankalpa. We must follow. (I will not say it is our karma). These days adjustment is not in our nature because we are too fixed.
Or, you study well and earn well and be happy. If one of the two spouses is less independent than the other, it causes clashes. So, you can either be at par here, so quietly live in India. These days, both spouses need to work. You must respect each other at human level. Both the spouses can work. That will keep things in balance. One working hard, one doing a small job is mismatched. It is rare to find men who take care of their wives with great care even if the wife is not employed. They are great souls.
Attraction lasts a very short time and then they move on to another, because we are all animals.We are not human beings, we were animals before. That animal mind comes forth sometimes. I am very happy to be single. Do not marry in these days, you will have diffiuclty. Why is Swamiji saying this? Last time, Swamiji said to have a lot of children, now He's saying to not get married. Study well, do good courses and earn well. Once upon a time in Dvapara yuga, arranged marriage was good. We are arranging the marriage and then we seek freedom - male freedom and female freedom.
I am praying for HIndus in Bangladesh. They are killing Hindus in Bangladesh. I just saw TV. I write while the TV is on. The children are puzzled how I write when there's so much noise. Many come to Mysuru and cannot sleep because they cannot sleep in silence. They need the sound of horns, vehicles etc. So, they play a tape recorder with those noises.
Brahmins today
Brahmins are those who have Brahma Jnana or Atma Jnana. Those who chant the Gita are all Brahmins. Don't think Brahmins are a separate sect. We are all in this line. We are all Brahmins. May the animals, cows etc be well. We beseech God that all be well. "Sarve janā sukhinõ bhavantu" May all people be well. This is what we should pray for everyday. We should pray for ourselves, our neighbors, our parents, our ancestors, our future generation should all be well.
With a body in the form of Omkara (If you turn Omkara in sanskrit/hindi on its side, you see the form of Ganapati). The sound "Ham Sa, So Ham" heard during Pranayama is a divine sound. Every day, one must do Praynayam for at least 10-15 minutes each day .Do this every day and send me an email about how strong and peaceful your mind becomes. Despite all difficulties, you will be tough. Study the Gita and understand the meaning. Difficulties will not faze you. Salutations to the Lord who is present in the heart lotus of all beings.
May Bangladesh be safe. May the Hindus there be safe. Hindus are being neglected everywhere. We are diminishing in population. Even further decline is happening in Brahmin population. They are not getting jobs in India despite good education. Brahmins are suffering a lot. Even priestly duties are not getting even Brahmins. The Brahmins are also forgetting to do ancestral rites. Brahmins are suffering a lot. So, they are working hard, getting educated and finding jobs outside India. First, Brahmins must stand up and rise. We must support that. They are dying. Priests get Rs. 22 from the government. What can they eat with that money? How many people can we support? I gave away all savings during covid. So, we have a fund for priests. Priests get a little money from that each year. Strangely, they are the ones who give progress to this world are Brahmins. They have a lot of children. Humanity is alive due to them. They take care of any number of children even if the children are physically disabled. That is what parental love should be like.
We are disgusted with old people, but the Brahmins take care of their old folks. In one way, they are right, but they are suffering. They don't have much to eat. Those who do have money will not share, they keep hoarding and saving. What use is this? The quality of sharing in India is gone. We must share in the misery of others. At least have a kind word for others. We must wish for welfare of all.

Lord Venkteshvara
Lord Venkteshvara is the deity of the Kaliyuga.To destroy the sin of Kaliyuga, to uplift the people of Kaliyuga, the Lord incarnated and resided on the seven hills. We believe that due to His grace, the effect of Kaliyuga is decreased. We also pray to Krishna alternately. We study the Gita that He taught. Krishna is Venkataramana Swamy. Such a Venkataramana Swamy has been consecreted in Baton Rouge Louisiana after so many years. This is an industrial area. We started this ashrama small. You are all helping this temple. The intent they started with in the beginning failed. But we did not fail. Our telugu people also did not fail. The intent was that all Gujaratis will come together here. For that, I also learned to speak Hindi. But no one came.
There are not that many people among Gujaratis and Hindi speaking people that memorized the Gita. Their gurus came and told me themselves. It's not like my devotees have so much devotion, they only do it out of love for Swamiji. Big Swamis from Gujarat… Venkata = he removes and destroys (kata) our sins.
That incarnation is also very wonderful. He used to give interviews like I do. The more people's clamor increased, He turned into stone. I have not turned into stone although that crossed my mind before.
Important among Vishnu's incarnations is Vishnu's incarnation. You can occasionally sponsor Pujas here for Venkataramana Swamy. You can join online and do small sevas, even if it's $1 seva. The Lord has a dark body. He has pure effulgence. People in South Africa are dark skinned, but their eyes are so bright. They are hard working people. I do not know about the urban dwellers, but the rest are hard working. We are all people of prayer, we get our effulgence from prayer. Rather than fight and chatter and eat and sleep, we should pray. Pray for the welfare of others. That is when we will have radiance in our eyes, if not our eyes will always be dull. We eat a lot and then worry. You don't even give up eating. You eat a lot and then become dull. You have a lot of k**a and krodha. You fight. If you want tejas/effulgence/radiance, you m The Lord is served by the Lakshmi called Moksha.
When Moola Brahma made this creation, he made consorts for the Trinity. Sarasvati was the consort for Brahma. He placed her on his tongue. That is why she is the effulgence that gives Jnana. Moola Brahma made Lakshmi who Vishnu placed in his heart. Shiva placed Parvati on his head. Just meditate.
Vishnu Maya
We offer salutations to Sri Maha Vishnu is the basis for Maya.
Who am I, who are you, where did you come from, you drove from Dallas, you flew from other places, you are hearing bhajans now. This is all Vishnu Maya. You are pulled by your love for Swamiji. You want to be with Swamiji as much as possible. It is very special that Swamiji is touring for 2 months. That Vishnu maya is drawing you to Swamiji.
This is so wonderful. We dismiss the idea of putting the wife on our head, saying she is too heavy. The meaning here is that we should take really good care of her. Many treat the wife like a slave, or like a dummy who is to do whatever he asks her. You must bind the wife with love, not with a stick.

Going to Mysuru Ashrama's Venkataramana Swamy is akin to going to Tirupati. The second moorti consecrated today was the Panchamuka Anjaneya The Lord has 5 faces - vanara/monkey, narasimha (half man, half lion), khagarat - eagle/Garuda, not the ordinary eagle. This found only in the Himalayas. Real Garuda only drinks rain water. it only eats flowers/lotuses. It is very difficult to find real Garuda.
Krodha = boar. Varaha saved the earth from drowning. Ashva= horse These are the five faces.
In Dattapeetham history, varasa means queue. Now, Ayyappa is here after 40 years. I am very happy. He was also waiting for 40 years. We cannot wait for 4 years. We cannot wait for 4 minutes. We get very uneasy.
Musicians can improvise and sing this with ragam, tanam and pallavi. it is more favorable for a keertana than for a bhajan, but Swamiji made it amenable for bhajan too.
Some bhajans swamiji has made amenable to folk music, ,light music, keertana, bhajan etc. Some are born with some restrictions. So, everyone download the Bhajanmala app.
We cannot live with Surya. When Surya comes the lotuses blossom. This buddhi is like a lotus. What a wonder this lotus of the buddhi is! What a wonder Surya is. What is the connection between the lotus flower and the sun. When the sun sets, the lotus flower closes its petals and blossoms when the sun rises. Do subscribe to the YouTube channel Bhajan Babies. At night times, lotuses close their petals. The flowers turn towards the direction of the sun during the day. They take food from sun god. We are also getting food from the sun. We complain about excessive heat from the sun, but we cannot live without the sun.
