Evergrey - Escape of the Phoenix (2021)
Evergrey was formed in 1995 in Gothenburg, Sweden as a progressive power metal band, outside of the melodic death metal part of the Gothenburg scene. Since then, the band's lyrics have always been of the darker sort, and the same can be said of the band's imagery. The Dark Discovery was recorded in 1996 and released in 1998, and Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy was recorded and released in 1999. While those two albums dealt with a variety of ideas, many later albums have been concept albums, dealing with issues like paranoia and alien abduction in In Search of Truth (2001).

Recreation Day, released in 2003, is an album that covers many issues, ranging from death and mourning to general fear and sorrow, all of which contribute to a greater concept of self-reformation. These ideas are explored from many different points of view, such as someone contemplating su***de "As I Lie Here Bleeding", mourners after a funeral "I'm Sorry," a cover of Dilba Demirbag's hit, and dying people's looking back on their "unforgivable" sins "Unforgivable". "Unforgivable" also acted as a catalyst for the next album, The Inner Circle (2004), which expanded on the issues described in the song: cults, religion and child abuse.

On 4 April 2006 Evergrey released their sixth studio album, Monday Morning Apocalypse. The album debuted at No. 6 in Sweden.

Later that year, Evergrey played at many festivals throughout Europe: among others, Sweden Rock Festival, Download Festival, Arvika Festival, Masters of Rock, Storsjöyran and Sziget Festival. From 5 to 30 May the band toured the United States with In Flames, Nevermore and Throwdown. On 15 September they headlined Prog Power VII in Atlanta, Georgia.

On 24 October 2006 Evergrey started a new European tour. They were supported by fellow Swedish death metal band Avatar, and they visited Germany, Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Denmark and Sweden.

Evergrey released their seventh studio album, Torn, in September 2008, continuing with their trademark lyrical themes of desperation and despair. Jari Kainulainen permanently filled the role on 6 August 2007, who also played bass on Torn.

On 8 May 2008 Evergrey announced that they had signed a deal with Steamhammer/SPV. This included the release of their new album and the entire back catalogue. It also was announced that the new album, Torn, would be released early in September 2008. As the deal includes the band's entire back catalog, there is the possibility of re-releases of previous Evergrey albums with the inclusion of added bonus material.

In July 2008 Swedish/Danish band Amaranthe announced that keyboardist Rikard Zander, along with In Flames bassist Peter Iwers, would make a guest appearance on their upcoming album.

In May 2010 it was announced that Jonas Ekdahl, Henrik Danhage and Jari Kainulainen have all left Evergrey by mutual decision because of problems with the band members interacting with each other. They called it quits as to not ruin the friendship they all have with each other.

An article posted on 13 November 2010 on Evergrey's blog contained dates for upcoming concerts as well as the confirmation of a new album titled Glorious Collision on 28 February 2011.

Via Facebook posts in November 2013, while writing the next Evergrey album due for release in 2014, the band first confirmed that drummer Hannes Van Dahl would be leaving the band to join Sabaton full-time, and then due to "problems working together" guitarist Marcus Jidell would also be leaving.

In August 2014 the release of the music video for King of Errors from the forthcoming Hymns For The Broken revealed that Henrik Danhage and Jonas Ekdahl had returned to the band. Hymns for the Broken was released on September 2014. The band released two more albums after that, The Storm Within in 2016 and The Atlantic in 2019. Those three albums were mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen and form a conceptual trilogy.

Their twelfth album, Escape of the Phoenix will be released on February 26, 2021 .

Nightfall - At Night We Prey (2021)
Description:

It has been seven long years since the world was last blessed with new music from the melodic blackened death metal stalwarts of NIGHTFALL. While the band has been absent from the scene since the release of 2013’s Cassiopeia, their legacy has not been forgotten. Comprising the holy trinity of Greek metal – along with ROTTING CHRIST and SEPTICFLESH – NIGHTFALL was the first extreme act in the country to sign an international deal, introducing the world to the burgeoning Mediterranean scene in the early 90s. Now, the band is plotting a triumphant return.

During the first decade of NIGHTFALL’s lifespan, the band headlined stages across Europe. Thereafter, went on to dominate international festivals such as Brutal Assault, Sonisphere, and Wacken, the latter of which the band solidified their legacy as the first ever Greek band to earn an envied spot at the renowned festival. The band eventually made the decision to switch to a studio act before they went completely silent. When reflecting upon the sudden disappearance after a steady rise from the underground, vocalist and founding member Efthimis Karadimas explained that it was due to an all too familiar beast – depression. “It’s because of depression that kicked in as early as mid-00s. I can write for hours and get into details about stuff gone wrong or mistreated situations, but the basis of all discouragement to move on has been depression and the effort required to get over it.” Despite the dark days, Karadimas did not abandon music entirely, moving on to form THE SLAYERKING, a gothic doom metal band that has released two agonizing full-length records between 2016-2019.

Alas, the abrupt departure of the band was not the final “goodbye” as NIGHTFALL has been reinvigorated with a new lineup and coveted deal with Season of Mist. Karadimas has reunited with original NIGHTFALL guitarist Mike Galiatsos, who helped define the band’s sound during the early years. With the addition of drummer and producer Fotis Benardo (ex-SEPTICFLESH) as well as guitarist Kostas Kyriakopoulos (THE SLAYERKING), the band is finally ready to release the tenth studio album. In addition to the long-awaited new music, Season of Mist will also be re-issuing the band’s original albums that were produced by Holy Records back in the 90s. This is not the only news the band has to share as NIGHTFALL has also vowed to finally perform again. “We are gonna play these live, including stuff never played live before,” says Karadimas.

‘At Night We Prey is a very dark and personal effort, tackling the topic of Karadimas’s battle with depression. “A beast I have experienced its teeth deep into my soul, I decided to come out and share that experience with metalheads,” Karadimas laments. “This is the least I can offer now to the big fight against depression. If we do not stop this, it will eat us all alive. Share your pain, speak openly about it. This is the only way to kill the demons in your mind.”

Kreator - Under the Guillotine (Compilation) (2021)
The story of KREATOR's meteoric rise to the global elite of thrash metal bands from their humble beginnings in Essen, Germany, began under their first name of TORMENTOR in the early 1980s. It was their "Blitzkreig" and "End Of The World" demos changing hands in the era's bustling underground tape-trading network that exposed them to the international metal community. Positive word of mouth soon attracted the attention of Germany's own metal start-up Noise Records, which signed the newly re-christened KREATOR to a deal.

KREATOR's tenure at the label spawned six studio albums and established them as one of the most influential on the thrash scene, one they dominate to this day. 1985 debut "Endless Pain" was savage; its crude thrashing quickly had the underground metal world abuzz with excitement. 1986's follow-up "Pleasure To Kill" is considered the band's first "classic" album and raised the bar with more diversity of tempos, while losing nothing in terms of ferocity or speed. 1987's "Terrible Certainty" further cemented the reputation that KREATOR were one of the genre's finest exponents. In 1989, the band closed the decade with the thrash triumph of "Extreme Aggression", their biggest seller to date. 1990's huge magnum opus "Coma Of Souls" confirmed them in thrash history before they diversified their sound on the experimental "Renewal" in 1992.

"Under The Guillotine" is a celebration of KREATOR's Noise Records discography and is the definitive collection of their first decade of recorded work.

Phantom Druid - Stages of Twilight (2021)
Tjeerd de Jong is without a doubt one the most prolific musicians in the Dutch scene. Next to working his own record store and label, Tjeerd is the frontman of stoner doom monoliths Stone in Egypt, sludge demons Witchcraft 71 and death doom duo Demon Lodge, just to name a few. My personal favourite though, is his one man band PHANTOM DRUID. Last year’s ‘Death & Destiny’ (2020 - Off The Record Label) was an ultra heavy slab of pure Pentagram worship that regularly found its way to my turntable. That de Jong isn’t one to sit back and relax is proven by the fact that, a little over a year after their debut, I’m currently listening to it’s follow-up, 'Stages of Twilight’ (2021).

If you’ve ever heard any of de Jong’s many bands and projects, you know the man knows his riffs. From the opening notes of “Far Beyond Oblivion” it’s clear that Stages of Twilight is going to be another front to back riff fest. Often, the riffs are supplemented with melodic overdubs and screaming solos. Just like on the debut record, these 10 tracks could have been written by Pentagram’s Victor Griffin and would fit in perfectly on any Saint Vitus record.

Vocally, de Jong is clearly inspired by the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Bobby Liebling. While his vocals aren’t over the top or extravagant, they complement the dark atmosphere of the music well. The subtle harmonizing effects add an extra touch of dread to the already bleak sound.

Next to fuzzy riffing, Phantom Druid doesn’t shy away from some supporting synth work and classy acoustic guitars to build the right atmosphere, like on “Revelations by Night” or “Electric Sky.” The former is a definite highlight on the record. The track has everything from trudging doom riffs to heavy chugging, working towards a magnificently solemn and dark finish.

On the intro of “Echo of Time,” Stages of Twilight seems to move into epic doom territory, with a riff that has some heavy Candlemass vibes. I would almost be disappointed that the track moves back into safe waters after that, if the rest of the track wasn’t so good.

The proto doom sledgehammer that is Stages of Twilight finishes off with what is probably the most uptempo Phantom Druid track out there. While “Black Clouds, Silver Wings” is in essence a doom track, the track resembles an early ‘70s hard rock song more than anything. Imagine a dark Blue Öyster Cult track, mixed with late ‘70s Black Sabbath.

Warrior Path - The Mad King (2021)
2021 The Mad King

Warrior Path is an Epic/Heavy Power Metal band from Greece feat. Bob Katsionis(Firewind) & Daniel Heiman(Lost Horizon) led by guitarist Andreas Sinanoglou.

Two years have passed since the self-titled debut of Warrior Path that hit the world's underground metal scene like the Hammer of Thor, getting everything from raving reviews to scoring the highest ranks on various 'Album Of The Year' lists. Continuing their journey, main man and songwriter Andreas Sinanoglou and musician/producer Bob Katsionis (Firewind/Outloud/Serious Black) along with drummer Dave Rundle, are coming back with another epic tale, the tale of "The Mad King". This time they are joined by one of the most legendary singers in the history of power metal: Swedish vocal phenomenon Daniel Heiman (Lost Horizon) taking the torch from Yannis Papadopoulos (Beast In Black). Musically, the band seems to have evolved in all aspects, leaving the obvious influences and forging an own sound. The excessive number of ballads of the debut gave its place to furious songs, the Iron Maiden-ish twin harmonies became epic metal riffs, while the production itself is warmer and even louder and punchier than the one of their debut. Still, the influences vary from Riot, Heaven's Gate and Scanner to Crimson Glory and early Queensrÿche.
According to main songwriter of the band, Andreas: "Every time I'm writing music, I always do it having a full album in my head. My vocal lines always reflect a particular style of singing. Yannis was fitting perfectly the songs I had composed for our debut due to his lyrical and melodic approach and we were more than happy with the final result. But for our sophomore album, I realized there was a more epic, tense and generally 'darker' atmosphere and to my mind there was no one else than Daniel to do it. We knew it would be hard to find him, didn't know if he would be interested in doing it, given that he is very picky on the stuff he puts his voice on, but in the end it all worked out pretty well, he is a total pro and we're glad he did go that extra mile to make the album sound as it does."
Daniel Heiman quotes: "After interesting discussions with the band members and since we agreed very quickly on all levels, I knew it would be an awesome collaboration and when I heard the new music I was blown away. Old fans of Warrior Path and fans of my voice will not be disappointed! Also, I know a lot of new fans will emerge with this amazing release."
"The Mad King" was recorded during the first pandemic global lockdown in the new Sound Symmetry Studio of Bob Katsionis in Athens, Greece and analog mastered once more by Nasos Nomikos at VU, Productions in Piraeus, Greece.
For the magnificent cover artwork, the band once again worked with Bulgarian artist Dimitar Nikolov bringing to life a scene from the Palace of the Mad King as told in the title track of the album.

Pride Of Lions - lION hEART 2020 ...
Pride Of Lions, the revered melodic rock band featuring the legendary ‘Eye of The Tiger’ songwriter and The Ides Of March member Jim Peterik together with powerhouse vocalist Toby Hitchcock, are back with their fabulous sixth studio album, “Lion Heart” on October 9, 2020. The band has released the video for their first single 'Carry Me Back'. See it HERE: https://youtu.be/tPvsZpwh2a8
Pre-order/save "Lion Heart" HERE: https://orcd.co/prideoflions
Jim Peterik has never lost his verve for melodic rock, a style of music he inarguably helped forge. Pride Of Lions showcases everything that you should love about the genre: powerful vocals, thanks to Toby Hitchcock, and unforgettable melodies. And the new songs and performances truly show what a “lion heart" Peterik still is. The opening cut, the title track, blazes from the speakers gaining steam with every chorus. Future classics like “Carry Me Back” with a truly unforgettable hook, to the mesmerizing magic of “Unfinished Heart”, and the majesty of an epic song like “Rock and Roll Boomtown” illustrate why this record has everything to please all the melodic rock fans out there.
Powerhouse American vocalist Toby Hitchcock came to the attention of melodic rock fans on the now legendary debut album from Pride of Lions. Often compared to Bobby Kimball (TOTO), Jimi Jamison (Survivor), and Lou Gramm (Foreigner), Hitchcock’s voice has the depth, feeling and extension of each of them, while still keeping his own trademark. His brilliant voice makes him an absolute star in the current melodic rock scene.
Since the start of Pride of Lions, Jim Peterik wanted to take listeners back to the glory of his best, most successful songs. His name is rightfully in the pantheon of great songwriters in melodic rock due to his love for melody and driving rock. His phenomenal rise to the top was borne on the back of amazing songs he co-wrote like “Eye Of The Tiger” from the film “Rocky III” ( an indelible classic), “The Search Is Over”, “High On You”, and “I Can’t Hold Back”. Further hits from films followed like “Burning Heart” from “Rocky IV” and Jim co-wrote the theme song of the seminal animation classic “Heavy Metal” with Sammy Hagar. A long lasting and fruitful relationship started in 1980 between Jim and the southern-rock group .38 Special, where he co-wrote their platinum hits “Hold On Loosely”, “Caught Up In You”, “Wild-Eyed Southern Boys”, “Fantasy Girl”, and “Rockin’ Into The Night”. Their collaboration continues to this day. Jim has also written with the beloved Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Primal Fear - Metal Commando (2020)
Description: Speed/power metal from Germany, latest full-length album released in 2020.

If your talking about today's European top metal acts the discussion is heading straight towards Primal Fear. Former Gamma Ray vocalist Ralf Scheepers and bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner, two of the most respected German metal musicians founded the band in late 1997. They recorded their first Primal Fear songs for the Japan based record company JVC Records and signed a deal with them for their debut album some weeks later.

Germany's best kept secret was soon a target for most of the European record companies and the band signed to Nuclear Blast Records in early 1998 for the rest of the world. The debut album, simply called Primal Fear was released in March 1998 and entered the German media control album charts straight ahead on position 48, soon followed by chart success in Japan. After touring together with Running Wild and HammerFall.

The second Primal Fear album Jaws Of Death entered the German charts on position 49 in July 1999, followed by their first headlining world tour. including countries like Brazil, Japan and of course Europe. A kind of Primal Fear hysteria broke free and surprised all metalheads, who couldn't understand, what kind of thunder was raging above them! In this fantastic mood, Primal Fear started the songwriting for Nuclear Fire. The result was their heaviest and strongest album so far. Typical Primal Fear trademarks like twin guitar solos, killer riffs and a catchy choruses marks Nuclear Fire as a classic.

The following headlining European tour was a huge success and Primal Fear were named as one of the hottest live bands. Primal Fear played 10 countries with packed audiences and a fantastic response with co-headliners Children Of Bodom.

Their 4th album Black Sun released on April 29th 2002. The album was mixed this time at the Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas. Black Sun charted in Germany on position 55. The following tour through Europe and 11 countries was a huge success, followed by a fantastic and successful tour through South America in December 2002 with the highlight show in Sao Paulo, Brazil at the Via Funchal.

In April/May 2003 the band headed to their first US & Canada tour to be a part of the Metal Gods Tour together with Halford, Testament, Immortal and others, with new drummer Randy Black. The long awaited first DVD The History Of Fear was released in September 2003 including a superb digipak packaging with fantastic reviews by the metal press. During this time, the metal commando was actually in the recording studio and started the sessions for their new album Devil's Ground. A video clip was shot in Stockholm, Sweden for the first single of the album and the alltime metal hymn "Metal Is Forever".

After touring, the band started the songwriting for their sixth album Seven Seals and this album was a new start and a fresh breath to reload the sound of the band. The album was mixed in the legendary Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, Canada by mixer Mike Frazer. Two video clips were shot for the songs "Evil Spell" and "Seven Seals". The band toured together with Helloween for 3 month through Europe, followed by an extensive tour in Japan. Mat Sinner's book biography The Book Of Seven Seals was released in the middle of the tour and the great packaging was sold out in a short time.

At the peak of their career, Primal Fear ended up the long time partnership with Nuclear Blast Records & JVC Records and signed a worldwide multi album deal with Frontiers Records. Both Nuclear Blast Records and JVC Records released a final best of album Metal Is Forever - The Very Best Of Primal Fear, which was a huge success in Japan and stayed for three month in the Burrn album charts.

The first album for Frontiers Records was released in September 2007 and named New Religion. Epica's lead singer Simone Simons was invited to studio to sing the first duet in Primal Fear recording history, the song "Everytime It Rains" and the alltime favorite "Fighting The Darkness". Magnus Karlsson from Sweden was introduced as the band's new guitarist and the band embarked on their 10 Years Of Metal 2008 anniversary tour.

The next studio album named under the mysterious banner of 16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead) was released worldwide in May 2009. 16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead) charted in Germany on position 46 of the album charts and the following 16.6 World Tour was a great success including shows in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, South America, USA, Canada & an extensive Europe clip was released for the song "Six Times Dead". Some shows in the USA and Europe were recorded and ended up in the first official live album Live In The USA and the concert DVD 16.6 All Over The World including a playtime of 3 hours and total metal mayhem, video clips and backstage scenes. A must for Primal Fear fans, followers & supporters.

Unbreakable was the next strike - released on 20 January 2012 including the video-clip/single Bad Guys Wear Black. Unbreakable charted in Germany #31, Sweden #48, Finland #50, Japan #27, Austria #74, Switzerland #51, Netherland Top 200 and in the US Billboard Heatseekers for the first time on #44. Primal Fears new outstanding "Back To The Roots" message called Unbreakable. A new video clip was released for the opening track of the album "Strike" with now more than 1 million YouTube views.

With nine studio albums released, two live products and a best of, Primal Fear are certainly one of nowadays most beloved and respected worldwide heavy metal bands. Their last studio album Unbreakable became their highest chart entry in Germany on position. 31 and charted in 7 more countries.

After some very serious songwriting sessions and an intense pre-production schedule, the band started to record the new album Delivering The Black in summer 2013 at the House Of Music studios in Germany, with producer Mat Sinner and engineer Achim Koehler. The direction was to create the most powerful Primal Fear album ever. The band moved to Denmark in September to finish the album with acclaimed producer/engineer Jacob Hansen handling the mix.

Delivering The Black combines the strongest Primal Fear moments ever, with a well-balanced typical Primal Fear trademark riff-vibe crushing songs and some very ambitious musical journeys. The center of the album are the two epic tracks "When Death Comes Knocking" and the 10 minute opus "One Night In December", spiced with big orchestral arrangements and complex sound designs. Classic and ultra-fresh Primal Fear riff-rockers like the title track "Delivering The Black", the album opener "King For A Day" or the groove monsters "Alive And On Fire" and "Road To Asylum" will hit the bulls-eye, like the untamed speed killer "Rebel Fraction". Less experiments, more metal. The outstanding ballad "Born With A Broken Heart" shows a new picture of Primal Fear with an acoustic guitar feeling and the addition of Liv Kristine (Leaves' Eyes) on backing vocals.

Singer Ralf Scheepers says: "We worked hard to create our best album ever. I already felt the vibe during the pre-production, that we were working on something very special this time! And now the result is just an amazing metal album, I'm extremely proud of!".

Producer/bassist Mat Sinner adds: "The songs, the production, the sound - this album is a very special one for me and my career. In my view everybody in the band just did a killer job and Jacob was fantastic choice to mix the album!"

Anticipated by the release of the digital only single When Death Comes Knocking, Primal Fear are about to release their strongest album ever - Delivering The Black. The album will be released in 5 formats - digital, CD jewel case, CD/DVD deluxe edition, super collectors edition and on vinyl.
