A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ACTING PRESIDENT

REF: APPRECIATION TO MR. YONMAH AND FORMATION OF THE FOOD BANK

The President has set up a FOOD BANK as a means of occasionally lending a helping hand to members of this Association. This FOOD BANK will only be a success with the support of all of the members of the Organization. No amount of money or support in kind would be too small to aid this cause. The Leadership has tasked the Crisis Committee to take charge of this initiative.
In this light, the rest of the Leadership joins the President to reverently thank Mr. Charles Yonmah, our dynamic Assistant Secretary General for his contribution worth over three-thousand Turkish Lira ( 3000.00 TL) to this initiative. Mr. Yonmah, as a way of celebrating his birthday, made donations of several food items to this initiative. Some of these items include but are not limited to three bags of rice, several bottles of sunflower oil, a few cartons of spaghetti and Noodles, as well as some seasoning. The leadership asks that other students should kindly try to follow suit and also endeavor to help all of us as we journey towards success here in Cyprus.
The leadership has also made contributions to this food bank with the donation of beans and an additional bag of rice. The distribution of these items will take place on Saturday as a means of alleviating the pains of treading this hard summer weather.
The items will be divided into packages and every package will include at least, rice, oil, noodles/spaghetti, and seasoning. For those in need of these donations, kindly send a private request to this WhatsApp number:

UPDATE ON THE LIBERIAN STUDENTS ASSOCIATION IN NORTH CYPRUS PRESIDENTIAL TRIP TO LIBERIA

On the date of June 30, 2023, the President, accompanied by the Vice President for Administration, Mr. Tonzeah Zarwolo, made an official visit to the esteemed offices of the Carter Center in Liberia. A comprehensive dialogue ensued between the President, his Vice President, and the Carter Center Liberia's Country Representative, Mr. James Dorbor Jallah, along with the Head of the Center's Mental Health Department.
This gathering provided an opportunity for the President to express his gratitude to Mr. Jallah for the Center's benevolent act of helping to send Tenapu Carter back to Liberia and committing to paying her medical bills. He further elaborated on the achievements of Liberian students in Cyprus, with a special focus on their recent graduations. Integral to their discussions was the establishment of a synergistic relationship with the Carter Center, aiming to extend further support to Liberian students residing in Cyprus.
From their side, the Country Representative pledged that his esteemed organization would take upon itself the accountability of Ms. Carter's medical treatment and convalescence in Liberia. Furthermore, Mr. Jallah assured that he would maintain regular communication with the leadership and asked for an opportunity to deliberate with the President on methodologies through which both organizations could collaborate to enhance the wellbeing of Liberian students.
In recognition of their dedication to Ms. Carter's wellbeing, the Carter Center was bestowed with a Plaque as a token of gratitude.
In the forthcoming week, the President and his delegation will convene with some legislators and Cabinet Ministers of the Liberian Government.

Breaking News

A Liberian Student studying in The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus who has been battling mental illness for a while now was hit by a car and suffered numerous wounds and a broken arm.
Eye-witness accounts of the incident show that Tenapu Carter jumped toward a moving vehicle and was instantly hit by it. After the tragic incident, she was rushed to the government’s hospital and underwent surgery.
However, before being officially discharged from the hospital, Tenapu fled the hospital for a friend’s residence. Since then, she has been a constant menace to that friend.
As a result, The Liberian Students’ Association in Northern Cyprus in collaboration with her parents are pleading with the general public to help them raise the amount of 3500 USD to transport her to Liberia along with a travel partner who would look after her on the plane because we have been given a week by the hospital to do so. This is their only hope as she would be in the care of her family. No act of kindness, no matter how tiny, is wasted. Donate to help save a Liberian student's life in Cyprus.

A message from the office of the third president Mr. Jeff George Moore of the Liberian Student's Association, Northern Cyprus.

"Penning these words of gratitude has been more difficult, than usual. I am still trying to fathom the proper words and structure to truly express how grateful I am. Having a retrospection of the Genesis of this journey, I am filled with joy knowing that God has been overly faithful and kind to me, this dream was ignited by Him, and to Him, we owe all the praises. On March 10, 2023, history was made, you people (The student community ) marched transcending a message of a new dawn, igniting a fire of hope, and believing in my dream. The mandate has been received and upon that mandate, we shall act. I am grateful that you believe we can do this together. I won't let this dream down, I won't let this hope down.
Thanks for all the support shown to me, but going forward, you are needed to support me, even more, to achieve this dream to the very end. This is something we can not achieve alone, we need all hands on the deck, this is about the forward march of our beloved association, one which is above all else.
Yesterday on April 8, we historically transitioned from one democratic leadership to another and that process will continue. Your participation in those inaugural events did not go unnoticed, I am grateful I have you people to support this.
Thanks for what you people have done for me and what we can all achieve together going forward.
The future is definitely bright and LSANC will continue to win.
Thanks to everyone for their individual or collective efforts in seeing us reach this far.
IT IS NOT YET UHURU✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿.
TOGETHER WE CAN✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿"

07/03/2023

As the Liberian Students Association in Northern Cyprus goes to election on Friday March 10,2023, the Student Innovative Movement (SIM)has come up with a position statement.

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE"

“Student Innovative Movement (SIM) Boycotts Ongoing Elections Due to Process Delays”

[Nicosia, March 7th, 2023] - The Student Innovative Movement (SIM) has announced its decision to boycott the ongoing student elections due to the delay in the election process. SIM will not feature any candidates for the elections until the process is fair and transparent for all participants.

The decision to boycott the elections comes after multiple attempts to address the delays in the process were unsuccessful. SIM recognizes the importance of student participation in the democratic process and remains committed to advocating for student rights and welfare while studying here within the TRNC.

SIM believes that the delay in the election process undermines the integrity of the elections and raises concerns about the transparency and fairness of the outcome. The organization also believes that the current process does not provide equal opportunities for all candidates and restricts the democratic rights of students.

As an integrity institution that believes in the rule of law, SIM believes that the looming constitutional crisis that erupted during the October 24, 2022 elections for which it was brought to a momentary standstill, must seriously be addressed and settled before the conduct of the pending elections. It is no doubt that this constitutional nightmare might cost future conflicts if urgent needs are not taken.

SIM calls on all of its members, well-wishers, Sympathisers, and students residing in the TRNC to refrain from going out on election days and instead engage in activities that have some significance for them. Because Mr Hunder is on the verge of moving back to Liberia, he has made the decision to eliminate the association out of greed as well as his aggravation. Mr Hunder did very little to contribute to the birth of this association and so he believes he has nothing to lose. As far as you, our students, are concerned, Brutus and his followers do not set a good example of effective leadership and for this reason, we are calling on everyone to name and shame him.

SIM remains committed to advocating for the welfare and rights of students and will continue to engage with stakeholders, and university administrations here in the TRNC to address their many concerns.
