The 3rd December of each year is the international day of persons with disabilities that promotes their rights and well-being . This day raises awareness of the political, economic, social and cultural aspects disability affects people around the world.
In fact , one out of every seven people is affected by disability which can be a physical impairment, a sensory impairment,a cognitive impairment , an Intellectual impairment, a Mental illness, a Chronic disease.
Moreover, you need to keep in mind that being disabled doesn't mean that your life is done. For instance, who doesn't know Frida Kahlo, the Mexican painter who's famous for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico? Well, Frida suffered polio during her childhood, had spina bifida, which caused dysmetria in her right leg and her spinal problems were aggravated by an accident suffered in her adolescence, which left her with physical issues for her entire life. Although, she made it to the top, she was internationally popular and influenced many people by her paintings and her strong will.
Added to that, Stephen Hawking, the theoretical physicist, the astrophysicist, the cosmologist, and the eminent scientist was diagnosed with ALS at age 21 , the doctors told him that he've got only 2 more years to live, but he lived until he was 76-years-old! And even if he had been paralysed from head to toe for over thirty years and used a voice synthesiser to be able to communicate, and a wheelchair that he operated through slight movements of the head and eyes, he was developing his activity as an exemplary researcher and professor, and intense personal life that allowed him to make his illness known to the world. And of course, he climbed the ladder of success and thanks to his researches the STEM field has developed.
