The current oil price situation seems to be relatively stable despite recent geopolitical events :

- **Oil Prices**: The price of Brent crude oil, the global benchmark, dropped to **$89.64** on Monday, down by 0.9% from the closing price on Friday¹. West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the North American benchmark, fell by 0.9% to **$84.90**.

- **Geopolitical Impact**: Despite Iran's attack on Israel, which involved more than 300 drones and missiles, the effect on oil markets has been more muted than might be expected. The attacks have not had any effect on oil supply, and OPEC members have spare capacity to produce another 6 million barrels a day if needed.

- **Market Reaction**: Initially, Brent crude prices had risen to a six-month high of **$92.18** a barrel on Friday after warnings of an imminent Iranian attack¹. However, the advance warning allowed for defensive measures, leading some analysts to conclude that it may not mark the start of a new war.

- **Price Stability**: In the short term, oil markets face volatility from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, but expectations of tighter monetary policy keep a lid on the rally¹. The immediate aftermath of Iran’s attack saw oil prices falling in early Asian trade, with Brent crude trading close to **$90** a barrel.

Overall, while there is always the potential for geopolitical events to impact oil prices, the current situation indicates that the market has not reacted strongly to the recent strikes, maintaining a price around **$90**, similar to the previous week. This stability could be due to a combination of factors, including market anticipation of the events, sufficient oil supply, and the potential for OPEC to adjust production if necessary.

The Iron Dome is reported to be highly effective as an air defense system. According to Israeli military sources, it has an interception rate of about **90%** .This means that it successfully intercepts and neutralizes 9 out of 10 incoming threats, such as rockets and artillery shells, aimed at populated areas. The system is designed to only engage projectiles that pose a threat to populated areas, ignoring those predicted to land in unpopulated regions.

The effectiveness of the Iron Dome has been a significant factor in Israel's defense strategy, providing the government with time and political space to make decisions during conflicts. It's important to note that while the Iron Dome has a high success rate, no defense system is infallible, and some projectiles may still get through. However, the system's performance has been widely regarded as a key asset in mitigating the impact of rocket attacks.

Some European countries, including Russia, have perceived France as being too eager to engage with Russia, especially after the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
