Oyo Police Vow To Punish Officers Who Snatched Grandma’s N150,000 in Ibadan

Jesugbemi had claimed in a viral social media post that the sum N150,000 given to him by his grandmother to pay her rent was snatched by some policemen attached to the command at Apata area while he was on his way to deposit the money in the bank.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement on Friday, said: “The attention of the Oyo State police command was on Thursday, October 7, drawn to a one minute, 50 seconds video made by one Emmanuel Jesugbemi, alleging that he was, at gunpoint, robbed of his handset and cash to the tune of N150,000 by rogue police operatives, purportedly attached to the command around Apata area, under Ido LGA in Ibadan.

“It is worthy to note that the command frowns at this serious misconduct and wishes to intimate members of public that the matter was immediately escalated through an investigative inquiry set up by the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Ngozi Onadeko, upon its receipt.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the alleged culprit identified by the victim does not serve under Oyo State Command but was rather in the jurisdiction on other yet-to-be specified duties.

“Furthermore, investigations are in top gear to apprehend all the officers involved in the unpleasant actions of Thursday, October 7, for their various involvements, with the assurances of adequate sanctions meted out on all guilty parties upon recommendations from the Investigation panel.

">
“The command sues for calm while appealing to members of the public that no offender(s) would on any account be indulged to evade deserved Justice regardless of status or affiliations.”

Jesugbemi had, through an Instagram post that went viral on Wednesday, claimed that the policemen led by one Badru Samson waylaid the motorcyclist conveying him to the bank and ordered him to get down.

Acting VC, 7 Other Aspirants Withdraw From Tomorrow UI’s Town Hall Meeting

The process of appointing a new Vice Chancellor for the University of Ibadan started on shaky note as no fewer than eight out of the 16 contestants for the post have withdrawn from participating in the town hall meeting scheduled for Monday.

A Town-Hall meeting organised by the UI Community Forum tagged “The Voice of the Next UI VC, Who is Next?” is scheduled to hold on Monday, October 4.

The forum offers a platform for staff, students and other members of the university community to meet the aspirants, listen to them and ask them questions.

The event is organised by the UI Community Forum consisting of five unions in the institution ― Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Students’ Union (SU), Non-Academic Staff Union of University (NASU) and the Non-Academic Technicians (NATS).

Many of the applicants have written to the organisers to excuse them from attending the community forum owing to various reasons.

As at Sunday, the affected candidates are
Professor Babatunde Salako, Professor Aderemi Raji-Oyelade, Professor Clement Kolawole Olaniran, Professor Olusegun Ademowo,
Professor Temitope. Alonge, Professor Emiola Olapade-Olaopa, while the incumbent acting VC , Prof. Babatunde Ekanola may not attend too as he is billed for an official engagement outside Ibadan as well as Prof. Ebenezer Farombi, who as at Press’s time, had refused to send his details to the organisers.

It will be recalled that Professor Babatunde Ekanola of the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts was appointed by the Senate as the acting VC in November, 2020 for a period of six months due to crisis that trailed the succession plan of the former Vice Chancellor, Idowu Olayinka.

Oyo Govt Spends N70 Million Monthly On Covid-19 Treatment, Isolation Centres

According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune, Permanent secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Health, Dr Mufutau Ayoola, made the disclosure at the opening of the 2021 Pharmacy Week of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Oyo State chapter.

He added that the cost also included maintenance of the isolation centres, feeding and payment of hazard allowance.

Dr Ayoola stated that some doctors that fell ill from contracting covid 19, in the course of working at the state’s isolation centres, were on treatment. He stated that the incidence of doctors contracting covid-19 was a hazard of working at the isolation centres.

Chairman, PSN Oyo State, Mr Adegboyega Oguntoye said that pharmacists are frontline care providers in responding to public health epidemics and pandemics, in collaboration with other members of the health team.

Mr Oguntoye added that: “We do not just advise patients on how to use their medicines anymore, pharmacy practice in Nigeria now takes a holistic approach to patient care. Our skills and knowledge have expanded remarkably.

">
“From patient counseling to ethical referral processes, health promotion, vaccination and immunization services, it is not surprising that the International Pharmaceutical Federation advocated and the World Health Organization approved that pharmacists be part of frontline care providers in public health service.”

The keynote speaker, Mrs Folasade Lawal, stated that Nigeria should also tap into the vast number of community pharmacists in the country to tackle vaccine hesitancy, and achieve the aim of immunising all Nigerians against COVID-19.

She declared that pharmacy-based immunisation, as it is practiced in the world, allows pharmacists to play active roles in immunisation. She declared: “There are over 4,400 registered community pharmacists in Nigeria. If they are empowered, the story will change for us.

The Secretary, Oyo State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Lukman Aransi said this at a meeting held with Community Leaders from Oke Ogun in Okeho in Kajola Local Government of the state to sensitize them on the dangers of the impending heavy rainfall in the state.

Alhaji Aransi, while addressing the community leaders from four local government areas of Oke Ogun – Iseyin, Kajola, Iwajowa and Iganna, urged them to prevail on their people to desist from dumping refuse in water ways.

He also advised them against erecting structures very close to rivers and streams.

“NIMET has warned us on the impending heavy rains expected in October in our state and some others in the country. Now that we know before hand that heavy downpour are coming up, we need to prevent avoidable disaster that could accompany heavy rains, such as flood and rainstorms”, Alhaji Aransi said.

“To prevent flood, we need to avoid blocking waterways through dumping of refuse in drainages, streams and rivers. It’s also advisable for us to plant trees around our houses and other buildings as this could prevent rainstorms”, he added.

Aggrieved Oyo PDP Members Meet, Begin ‘Operation Makinde Must Go’

Aggrieved members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday met again ahead of the planned congress of the party.

This was just as they passed a vote of no confidence on the leadership of Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State.

At the event attended by Mulikat Akande Adeola, Nureni Akanbi, AbdulRasheed Olopoeyan, Gbolarumi Hazeem, Femi Babalola and host of others, members drawn from all the 33 local government areas of the state, vowed to ensure they do everything to prevent the emergence of Makinde from getting the party’s ticket for the second term.

The members, who voiced their displeasure, said against the governor’s promise before and during the election, they have been neglected while those who were not around during the election are the ones benefiting from government.

Saying that they have accepted what has befallen them, the leaders urged members to be prepared for the congress which begins this week.

“Go to your wards, mobilize your people. Don’t fight anybody. Record whatever happens and leave us to do the remaining in Abuja,” Akande-Adeola assured.

Akanbi, who spoke earlier, said never again would they entrust their destinies in the hands of someone like the incumbent governor.

Ibadan North PDP Stakeholders Accuse Makinde Of Imposition — You Met Us When You Returned From SDP

Stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibadan North Local Government of Oyo State rose from a crucial meeting today where they resolved to send a warning note to the Governor of Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde, on the series of imposition of candidates for the coming ward congresses in the party at the local governments acrossthe state.

The stakeholders who cut across all the twelve wards that make up the local governmen alleged that the Governor and the loyalists have been trying to hijack the structure of the party from those who have labored hard for the successes of the party at the polls in the 2019 elections.

The stakeholders who belonged to the various caucuses in the party – Seyi Makinde Liberation Group, decampees from the ADC, loyalists to the Deputy Governor, loyalists to a former Chairman of the local government, HonAdemola Omotosho, among others.

They insisted that the Governor is compiling a list of potential ward executive members against the general wish of party members.

The stakeholders alleged that those who make up the list compiled by the Governor and his loyalists were persons with no weight or followership within and outside the party.

Speaking to press at the end of the meeting, the convener of the meeting, Mr Alagbe Gbemileke, who spoke on behalf of the stakeholders explained that they are not ready to defect to another party as they are the ones who held the reins of the party when the Governor himself defected to another party and accepted hm with open arms when he and his loyalists came back to the party, and ensured the victory of the party when not many believed in him.

They said that the self-centredness of this administration has made many party loyalists lose face with people in their constituency.
