Most people from here in Northeast Mississippi have never ventured much further than that. It's hard to get a sense of where you're at in the world if you haven't seen very much of it. I don't know if anyone's ever driven through Shreveport Louisiana but if they have they know it's probably one of the stinkiest places on Earth...papermills... And the people from there are completely oblivious to it... they don't smell anything it's just normal to them. Chickasaw county is a lot like Shreveport except it's not a smell that is so pervasive, it's a runaway criminal justice system. Chickasaw county Mississippi has almost the highest incarceration rate in the entire world. Chickasaw county locks up a higher percentage of its citizens than Vladimir Putin does. The entire county has done been sent to prison or is on probation getting ready to go to prison. Chickasaw county must have misunderstood that the war was on drugs and not drug addicts. It is a downright shame and it is an injustice that should not be allowed to continue in the land of the free.
Chickasaw county has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, over 18% of the population of the county lives below the poverty line. Corrupt and inept local governments have squeezed all the economic activity out of the county leaving behind a ravaged unemployed citizenry.
While it's citizens watch more and more of their jobs disappear to counties further and further away, local government seems to be expanding. The local elections are a sham and a disgrace to democracy. With nearly 20% of the county living below the poverty line, being able to afford to take off work early or miss out on some overtime, being able to afford the extra gas or even owning an automobile to get to the polls keeps the working poor from participating, the other half the county has been convicted of felonies and lost their right to vote... If one stood outside the poles and observed for very long they would notice that a third of the counties population account for 65% of the ballots actually cast on election Day. The bureaucracy of county government has attracted and fostered a privileged class of administrators, clerks, judges, lawyers, accountants and politicians.... As more and more of their friends get elevated up and put on the payroll more and more money is required to pay for it. Since there is no economic activity to speak of within the county the only way the offset that new deficit is to lay off all the blue collar workers and replace them with slave labor in the form of prisoners from the MDOC and the local jail. When you see those men out there in green and white stripes working, each one of those men represent a citizen of the county that had a government job but lost it to cheap labor furnished by the prison system. Every one of those men in green and white represent about a $50,000 a year savings to the county, which it then divides amongst its favored members in the form of salary increases, equipment the county purchases but spends most of its time at the county supervisor's house.
Chickasaw county brings in about 4.8 million in revenue a year from taxes and other government activities such as fines and levies, and permits.... Nearly half of that goes to the sheriff's department. 7x more tax money is allocated for the sheriff's department then it's allocated for the Chickasaw county School district. Nobody dares to question why the county hasn't made the first Bond payment on the jail it built 15 years ago. Nobody dares to ask why they needed a $8 million Bond to build a $2 million prison and where did the other six million go? And I say $2 million dollars but I don't see how a couple prefabricated fiberglass domes and some angle iron cost $2 million dollars. They have literally had attempted escapes where men are taking a cigarette lighter and burned a hole in the exterior wall.. that's what you get for $2 million something that can get be defeated by a Bic lighter.
Nobody has dared to question how all these civil servants are becoming enriched in jobs that pay 40 or $50,000 a year? Nobody dares question how all the property taken in civil forfeiture ends up in the backyards of the deputy sheriff's and court clerks. They sieze these things from private citizens often with very little evidence or even legal standing and then they auction it back to themselves for pennies. This year alone Chickasaw county will spend nearly $2 million in tax money to get less than a day supply of drugs off the street. On a good year they might find 20 lb of drugs, you could have bought the same amount of drugs on the open market for $30,000 bucks and burned them and achieve the exact same results without all the collateral damage to your citizenry. That's why we can't have nice things. When you go lock a drug addict up for possession of $20 worth of drugs you send them to prison for 3 years, you spent about 70 or $80,000 in taxpayer funds to punish a man for possessing $20 worth of drugs.... That's why 17% of the county is below the poverty line because any surplus funds they have will be siphoned off in the form of fines and legal fees. Not only are we throwing away millions of dollars every year to absolutely no effect whatsoever on the crime rate, no effect whatsoever on drug use if anything both have went up.. that should be a telling truth right there... The more you increase law enforcement budget the more you increase crime and poverty perhaps the two are intertwined. Nothing prevents crime better than a job... Nothing stops people from selling drugs better than legitimate economic activity, nothing is better at preventing the theft of a w**d eater then a job. I live in Chickasaw county, I've been all over this country I spoke to everybody at least twice and let me tell you something this ain't normal. The entire citizenry of Chickasaw county is not the most criminalistic people on earth why in God's name are they going to jail faster than anywhere else on Earth?? We need to get a hold of ourselves and fast... prison is for people you're scared of not people you're just mad at. You want to be mad at drug users that's fine make them do some community service, provide some form of treatment for them, do something that's not going to have them in a worse position then they were in when you arrested them so that way when you released them they're less likely to steal another lawn mower with a full stomach and some sense of security..
Of all the tyrannies of men perhaps the worst are those that are committed from behind the shield of law and done in the name of Justice..... What we have now is a tyrannical system where the moneied classes get a free pass and the poor people are doomed to indentured servitude because they cannot meet the counties demands for money. When the plant manager at Franklin gets pulled over and they find the bottle of prescription painkillers with someone else's name on it.... He doesn't even have to go to jail chances are probably doesn't even have to get out of his vehicle. He's givin a wink and a nod by the cop who looks at him and says now you owe me one... The cop sees the benefit to himself by allowing the plant manager to go on home, instead of punishing him he just stuck himself a favor back. Now let's say one of the upholsterers at Franklin gets pulled over and they find the bottle of pills they don't have his name on it... They sieze his vehicle, seize his cash money, arrest him and place him in chains take him to the county jail have him strip butt naked while other men inspect his body for contraband, his kids miss supper that night because their Daddy went to jail with all the money they had in his pocket and the county took it... Just to be able to go home he has to pay the ransom and can I tell you this it's an extraordinary Ransom too in the form of a bond just to be able to return to his own home in the county.. the county requiring the citizen of the county who resides in the county that was employed in the county to put up a cash Bond to secure his release until Court as if he was going to throw his entire life away and run to keep from going to court over a relatively minor offense.. bond is supposed to be levied according to the offender's ability to pay the bond must be set at a reasonable amount where it is reasonable to believe that the offender could post that money without major consequences to his food clothing and shelter until court.... That's not how it works in Chickasaw county bonds are assessed according to the county's needs for funds if the koffers are running low... bonds are high. There is an inequality of Justice that is despicable in the Free world and it is a mockery to the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I'm not blaming members of law enforcement for this... I blame policy a lack of understanding and downright apathy to the plight of the poor and downtrodden in the county. Every single one of our citizens the sheriff's department drags down there and convicts of a felony will earn on an average of $10,000 a year less than someone of comparable education.
This war on drug addicts has a lot of collateral damage. We have broken up so many homes full of innocent children who will have to grow up not knowing their father or mother except through a glass window pain and telephone... The ripple down effects of these policies are destroying the fabric of our society from the bottom up and is only because the effects aren't felt at the top yet that the top has no motivation to change anything ....they're getting rich... But I assure you just because it hasn't reached to the top yet it will. These policies can have but one end result and that is bankrupting the governments that try to enforce them and impoverishing the people forced to pay for it. This is not a theory. You will not find a single study anywhere on the entire internet done anywhere in the world by any scientific organization medical association or think tank that can even begin to frame a positive narrative for the war on drugs. It is a universal and resounding epic failure. We spent a trillion dollars over the last 40 years, locked millions of men in cages for millions of combined years and completely gutted the middle class.... And the drugs have never been so cheap they've never been so plentiful and they've never been so potent. Not a single goal of the war on drugs has ever even been close to achievable. And my God there's got to be a better way, even if we try something different and it doesn't work it couldn't be any worse than this, to continue doing the same things and expecting different results it's the very definition of insanity and this country has gone insane with the war on drugs absolutely insane... Which is crazy considering that half the population is on drugs. Ladies and gentlemen if we were honest with each other we'll admit to ourselves that the powers that be don't want it to stop. They're getting rich off of it. When I was a kid the world health organization went around the world and eradicated smallpox from the face of the planet. We're talking about tracking down a microscopic organism and wiping it from the face of the planet... And these weren't seal team sixes and army rangers run around blowing up villages and s**t these were just some doctors and nurses and some sound medicine. If an organization of doctors and nurses can eradicate a microscopic organism from the face of the planet you don't think we can get rid of co***ne? We can spray enough herbacide on Columbia and Bolivia down there that nothing would ever grow again. When we were occupying Afghanistan he**in production went up by 800% there's no shock or surprise that we had an opioid and a he**in epidemic going on here at home. You know anybody that's been to Afghanistan here lately? flies back and forth regularly? Me neither... the only thing from America that go to Afghanistan are military transports and conveniently they don't have to stop at customs on their way back in. The biggest drug dealer ever convicted in the United States was lieutenant Colonel Oliver North who testified that for years he flew military transport planes full of co***ne from Columbia to Lena Arkansas offloaded the narcotics gave them to contacts in the CIA who then moved the drugs on to the distribution networks they had set up in the inner cities and then funnel the profits back and then use those profits to buy weapons from Iran to give to the contras in central America (the contras are a major drug cartel so yes we were selling drugs in the United States buying weapons of war for Iran and giving them to our favorite drug cartel in Central America) to overthrow the government of their home country... Which the United States was expressly forbidden to do by treaty and that's why they had to sell co***ne to get the money and couldn't get it out of the budget. Oliver North sat right there in front of Congress said yeah I did it.... And then the president that ordered him to do it pardoned him. He's a commentator on Fox News now. A few years back the banking House of wachovia came under fire after regulators caught them laundry more than 400 billion dollars for drug cartels in Central and South America.. they were ordered to pay a fine that was the equivalent of 3% of the profits they made from laundering the money. Not a single person at wachovia went to jail. Not a single person was ever even brought up on charges. Not a single person even lost their job behind that.. in fact the CEO of walk over you who was running the ship during the illegal money laundering scam got a 60 million bonus for negotiating a favorable settlement with the government. We've got men serving decades in one of the worst prisons in the world for dust in a baggie.
Make it make sense.
