ðŸ”ī4 MORE OMURA WHALES SPOTTED! Marine authorities, in their quest for a rare white Omura whale in the Andaman Sea, failed to locate it on January 1. Despite the disappointment, they discovered four other Omuras off Phuket during the search. Pinsak Surasawadi, head of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, expressed optimism about gathering valuable information for future study, even though the albino whale remains elusive.

🐋The team successfully found Omura whales near Koh Phi Phi, Koh Maithon, and Koh Hae, contributing to understanding and protecting this declining species. Marine biologist Thon Thamrongnawasawat from Kasetsart University praised the discovery, highlighting it as the largest pod ever witnessed in Thailand.

ðŸ”īPATONG TAXI DRIVER STABBED: The fatal confrontation unfolded near the Khok Makham Intersection on Phra Barami Road in Patong, Phuket. Samanmart Ueanoth, known as "Uncle Mit," suffered three stab wounds to his chest and succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to Patong Hospital. The alleged assailant, Thawatchai Kaewsamsri, sustained a stab wound to his leg and sought medical attention on his own.

Both drivers were part of the same motorbike taxi company and had a history of clashes, often triggered by Samanmart's habit of consuming alcohol while awaiting passengers. Witnesses revealed that the deadly altercation ignited over a dispute regarding service refusal to customers. The confrontation escalated as Samanmart brandished a knife, prompting Thawatchai to kick him. In the ensuing struggle, Thawatchai gained control of the knife, ultimately leading to the fatal stabbing of Samanmart.

ðŸ”īTRAGIC: U.S EXPAT KILLED BY HIT AND RUN TRUCK DRIVER: Phuket authorities are actively seeking the truck driver involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of 60-year-old American expat Gregory Ludwig. Riding his Suzuki motorbike in the picturesque Thalang district, Ludwig was struck by the oncoming truck, tragically losing his life. The incident unfolded on Thepkrasattri Road around 7:30 pm on January 11, shortly after Ludwig left a hotel where he served as the director of recreation.

Law enforcement, led by Sornthip Chukaew from Tha Chatchai Police Station, is diligently reviewing CCTV footage to locate the responsible truck driver. The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with the US Embassy and Ludwig's family.

ðŸ”īDRUNK DRIVER DILEMA: In the wee hours of December 28, chaos struck outside a Supercheap store in Bandon, Thalang, as a pickup truck turned a row of parked bikes into its own unfortunate domino effect. Thankfully, no one got hurt, but nine bikes were left feeling quite battered. The truck's grand escape plan was foiled by the very bikes it knocked over.

Meet the driver of this unplanned demolition derby: Damrong Bunphong, a 48-year-old with a penchant for drunk driving and property damage. The police, equipped with breathalyzers, swiftly put an end to his tipsy getaway. Now, he's facing charges that might make him rethink his choice of after-party activities.

Among the victims, Wannaphatchan Kueannun, a 25-year-old bike owner, shared his tale of woe. While innocently grabbing a late-night snack inside Supercheap, he was met with a symphony of crunching metal. His bike, along with several others, had become collateral damage.

Wannaphatchan's work schedule took a hit—11 days and counting—costing him over 600 baht in transportation fees. Sasinadda Wichaihom, another bike owner, was just trying to buy some beer for his co-workers when his bike became an unintended casualty. Now, he's stuck with the bill for a rental bike.

The victims are rallying for swift justice, urging the police to rev up the compensation process. Thalang Police assure us they're not hitting the brakes on this issue; they're working on a resolution to get everyone back on two wheels, financially unscathed.

ðŸ”īRAID UNCOVERS 500 MINORS! Well, it turns out Heaven Rangsit wasn't exactly following the celestial rulebook. Not only did they forget to check for licenses and safety inspections, but their attempt at a wild party got them a visit from 50 Interior Ministry officials.

The club's staff tried to pull a Houdini with underage patrons through the back exit, but the police decided to be party poopers and turned on all the lights, blocking all possible escapes. Result? 489 minors, with the youngest being a sprightly 16-year-old. The club's now taking a two-week break for questioning, and rumor has it they might get a five-year closure – talk about a lengthy intermission.

The governor even had a serious chat with 234 other nightclubs in the province about the dos and don'ts of teenage shindigs. Looks like Heaven Rangsit's attempt at nightlife nirvana hit a sour note.

ðŸ”īTOO LITTLE TOO LATE? In response to recent incidents jeopardizing marine safety in Phuket waters, a collaborative initiative named "United For Marine Safety" is set to address key concerns. Spearheaded by 5 Star Marine and supported by local entities, including the Provincial Organization and Phuket Governor's office, the event at Boat Lagoon on January 15 aims to unite the industry for enhanced safety standards.

Phuket's Governor, along with private sector representatives like 5 Star Marine and government agencies, seeks to forge an agreement to elevate safety in the marine industry. Recognizing the impact on the island's image, industry leaders express a collective commitment to improving safety standards.

5 Star Marine's CEO, Shaun Stenning, highlights the significance of this industry-wide event, applauding the response from the Phuket Governor and marine officials. The gathering will delve into discussions on a comprehensive code of conduct, new safety directives, drug-testing protocols, and enforcement commitments.

Open to all, the event at Boat Lagoon's White House function center encourages broad participation to ensure a unified effort towards fostering marine safety.
