In a recent update regarding the tragic bus accident on the Motorway (M-4) near Pindi Bhattian that occurred on August 20, Hafizabad police have revealed that the driver, Mujahid Hussain, was overspeeding at the time of the crash. Hussain, who was initially believed to be among the 18 passengers who lost their lives in the accident, was arrested on Saturday. During the investigation, Hussain explained that he was rushing to pick up passengers from another company's bus that had broken down on the motorway, which led to the unfortunate collision and subsequent fire.
The bus had been en route from Karachi to Islamabad, highlighting the critical need for adherence to motorway driving rules and the importance of rest for drivers.
Motorway police, in response to this tragic incident, emphasized their ongoing efforts to promote awareness among transporters and drivers about safe driving practices.
They hold regular meetings with transporters, offer support to drivers during night patrolling with amenities like chewing gum and tea to help them stay alert during long journeys, and organize special seminars to raise awareness about the significance of proper rest before taking the wheel. However, assessing whether drivers have had sufficient rest remains a challenge, underscoring the continued need for vigilance and education in ensuring road safety.
