WHAT DID ANDREW NG TELL THAI PEOPLE ABOUT AI?
27 July 2024
Let's hear Prof. Dr. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Fellow of the Royal Society of Thailand, summarize key insights from Dr. Andrew Ng, Adjunct Professor at Stanford University and founder of Coursera, known for the slogan "AI is the new electricity," from his lecture at the "Revolutionizing the Future" event at Chulalongkorn University on July 19, 2024:
1. AI is becoming integrated into daily life, a process called "AI Democratization," similar to electricity a century ago.
2. The AI ecosystem (compared to electricity) consists of processing hardware (generators), cloud/data centers (batteries), AI platforms like GPT, Gemini, Claude (power sources), and consumer software applications (electrical appliances), which are crucial but often overlooked.
3. AI is automating many tasks. While tasks may disappear, most jobs will remain, requiring professionals who can use AI.
4. Contrary to past beliefs, AI impacts knowledge workers as much as manual laborers.
5. AI and coding literacy will become essential skills for the new generation, similar to language literacy.
6. The next goal for AI developers is AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), potentially solving global issues like climate change, but risking purposeless human unemployment.
7. To face AI challenges, humans must develop a "Full Stack Human" mindset, with comprehensive skills adaptable to various aspects of life and work.
8. Businesses must transition to the AI era now, with AI-literate CEOs, to remain relevant and competitive.
9. Governments must prioritize AI ecosystem development as a national agenda to create an AI-literate society.
10. Thailand has significant growth potential in AI, especially in healthcare, tourism, and agriculture.
